May 18th, 2010

Hi all

I’m off-island at the moment but still making time to send you all updates – how’s that for dedication?  Anyway, I’ll make this a quickie:

  • Before you do yourself any serious sun damage, you might want to attend the free public talk, Save the Skin You’re In tonight at 6.30pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI). The guest speaker Krista M. Rubin MS, RN, FNP-BC from Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Melanoma will teach you how to do a self check for skin cancer and what measures you can take to protect yourself. Health information tables and FREE skin analysis are available between 5.30 until 6.30pm. Light refreshments will be avaiable also. Spaces are limited but you can call 236-0949 to register today or visit www.chc.bm for more information.

  • A little update on Park Party 2010. So far they have Homegrown, Vinyl Jam, SF2, OB1 and YGS and they’re adding more. They have also confirmed that there will be a 2 for 1 Happy Hour from 5.30 until 7pm. Tickets are now available from Sound Stage, at a price of $30. They will also be available at the gate but will cost more.

  • Most of you will be off work on Monday, May 24th – if you’re looking for something a little different to do on the Sunday, you could always attend the Grand Opening Party at Snorkel Park on Sunday, May 23rd from 10am until 8pm. This will feature live bands (Homegrown and Working Title as well as DJs Einstien, OB1 and MC Super Dave), watersports and beach activities, such as the Red Bull Beach Volleyball Tournament, inflatable raft race, the All-New Kiddie Cove featuring a special kids’ menu and games and activities, a special BBQ buffet at Hammerhead’s Bar and Grill, and various games, contests and giveaways.  Here is the poster with details
    .

  • From May 27th until the 29th, The Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society presents the Daylesford Chamber Choir show What a Wonderful World. This is being billed as “A fun celebration of the wonderful world of music; the audience will be presented with a veritable smorgasbord of favourites from the 20th century presented with the inimitable Daylesford Singers treatment”. The show will be at Daylesford Theatre at 8pm and tickets are available online at ww.bmds.bm at a price of $25 each. Here’s the poster.

The $10 was specifically for the opening party but I just double-checked with Snorkel Beach and here’s what they say: “Starting June 1 until September 1, we will be charging a day admission of $5 per person to use the beach and facilities between 9:00am and 4:00pm; Sunday through Friday, on Saturdays it’s free admission for all to enjoy. However, we will be doing more Sunday events similar to last week-end with live bands on the beach, where the admission price will be $10 per person. Thanks for double-checking. We are currently open at nights on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays and DJ OB1 is playing at Bermuda’s only open-air night club from 10:00pm-3:00am. The admission is $15 per person.”
