Happy Friday!

Just a quickie today:

  • Some of you are asking why my last post said that tonight's Tree of Lights ceremony starts at 6pm, when the flyer clearly said 5.30pm…  I took the information from their website at www.agapehouse.bm and didn't notice the flyer had a different time.  Probably best to get there at 5.30pm – I don't want you to miss out on any festive fun!

  • Gibbons are having a charity day today – if you donate $5 or more to Menuhin Foundation at their charity desk (located at the Men's and Children's entrances) you will receive a one-day pass that gets you 20% off at Gibbons Company.  Here's the flyer with full details!

  • Tomorrow night, from 9pm until late, MR Onions Football Club presents A Night of Rock 'n' Roll at Flanagans featuring The Crazy Wednesdays with DJ Stones Jones and DJ Lemsip.  The night will also include Pick the New Sunday Team Manager and Guess Chunky’s Weight **UPDATE:  MR Onions' most decorated player (according to him) Chunky, has asked me to let you all know that he will not be in attendance as he is off-island.  He didn't want any ladies/fans to turn up, only to be disappointed by his absence**.  Tickets are $10 and available from darragh.odonoghue@citi.com, any Onion, or on the door if they don't sell out.  Here's the flyer!

  • Demco Florists are having an Open House Wine and Cheese Reception on Wednesday, December 1st between 5pm and 9pm.  If you'd like to attend and see their selection of Christmas gifts for purchase, RSVP to demco@northrock.bm before Sunday.  Here's the flyer with more details.  Demco are also having a special December offer – if you spend $50 between now and December 31st, you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a year of Demco floral designs.  Here's the flyer for that!

Morning all!

Want to hear something scary?  Christmas is exactly one month away today!  If you celebrate Christmas, I really hope that you are much more organised that I am.  Lots of festive events coming up:

  • Agape House, in partnership with the Corporation of Hamilton, presents the 16th Annual Tree of Lights, a memorial tree which stands in front of City Hall. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is tomorrow at 6pm (**UPDATE: 5.30pm) and will include performances from Saltus Junior School Choir, Menuhin Foundation, Bermuda Regiment Band, Bermuda Island Pipe Band and a special appearance by SANTA CLAUS!!  Here's the flyer.

  • Also happening tomorrow, The Centre Against Abuse are holding a Black Friday Sale.  This will take place at the Jack King Building in the Botanical Gardens between 10am and 6pm.  The deal is that you pay $30 and then fill a bag of apparel and household items.  There will also be baked goods for sale.  For further information, call 292-4366.  Here's the flyer!

  • Quick update on the Santa Parade on Sunday, the roads will be closed from 12 noon and the parade starts at 5pm – I updated the original post here.

  • The third Under The Moongate Supper Club is coming up at Beau Rivage on Tuesday, December 7th.  There are a couple of different options for this one – the main restaurant table will cost $105 (including grats, excluding drinks), the Chef's table in the kitchen will cost $128 (again, including grats, excluding drinks) and if you're interested in the optional wine-pairing, add on $40.  As always, spaces are limited and it's first come, first served, so RSVP to underthemoongatesupperclub@gmail.com.  Here's the flyer!

  • A bit of a Christmas/New Year update from Fairmont Southampton.  First up, on Christmas Day, there will be a Christmas Brunch at Windows on the Sound from 10.30am until 4pm at a cost of $59 per person.  Christmas Dinner will be served at Waterlot Inn and Bacci (a la carte) between 5pm and 10pm and a Gourmet Christmas Dinner at the Newport Room between 6pm and 10pm at a cost of $89 per person (call 238-8000, extension 6276 for reservations).  On New Year's Eve from 8.30pm until 1am, there will be a buffet dinner and dance in the Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre, featuring The Kennel Boys and DJ Stubby.  Tickets are $129 and available now from www.bdatix.com.  Also on NYE, from 8.30pm until 1am, there will be a Five Course Dinner and Dancing at Waterlot Inn ($159 per person) featuring the Toni Bari Trio or Ultimate New Year’s Dinner at the Newport Room ($149 per person), also from 8.30pm until 1am.  Another NYE option is the Chocolate Extravaganza in Jasmine Lounge, featuring pianist Erskine Phillips and the Joy Wylie Trio from 8.30pm until 1am.  There will be a New Year's Day Brunch at Windows at a cost of $59 per person.  To reserve any of these, call 238-8000, extension 6276.  I'm just waiting on pricing information and will update when I receive this!

  • The Olde Towne Street Market is expanding!  They have now launched a Flea and Antique Market for interested vendors to sell their secondhand bric-a-brac, books, household items, etc. on King's Square on a Sunday afternoon.  The cost is only $10 and you just need to provide your own table to display your goods.  No tents allowed but you will be able to use an umbrella if you want shelter.  You will be able to sign up on the day and only need to commit to one Sunday at a time.  If interested, please contact oldetownemarket@yahoo.com for more details.  Here's the application form with more details.

November 23rd, 2010

Morning all!

Another new section added, this time for Bermuda Bloggers.  If looking for it later, you can find it under the Still Bored? section.  That's pretty much where you can find anything that isn't part of the main Bermuda Events listing.

  • Samadhi Spa at Newstead Belmont Hills are holding an Open House tomorrow night between 6pm and 9pm. This is a great opportunity to buy products or gift certificates as Christmas presents.  As well as a tour of the facility, there will also be complimentary mini-treatments, live Latin music, complimentary tapas and a cash bar.  If you RSVP in advance, you'll be entered into a draw to win a Samadhi Signature Massage or Natural Facial (you have to be present to win so don't go saying you'll attend just to get a chance at the prize). To RSVP, email info@bermudasalsa.com, info@samadhispas.bm or accept the invitation on Facebook!

  • Tickets are now available online for the Caledonian Ball for St. Andrew's Day at www.premierticketsglobal.com.  For anyone attending, don't forget the dance practice at Spanish Point Boat Club tomorrow night from 7pm until 9.30pm.  Also, don't forget to bring cash for the raffles tickets on Saturday as the prizes are very impressive this year.  I have updated some details in the original post here, including an earlier start time.

  • A little Thanksgiving update from Fairmont.  First up, Fairmont Southampton are having a Thanksgiving Buffet Dinner and Dancing on Thursday at Windows on the Sound from 5.30pm until 10pm.  Music is by the Joe Wylie Trio and the cost is $49 per person.  For reservations, call 238-8000, ext 6276.  Over at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, there is also a Thanksgiving Day Buffet at Harley’s Restaurant.  The cost is $55 per person, $27 per child aged between 5 and 12, and under-5's eat free.  Call 298-5779 for reservations

  • The Bacchanalian Society of Bermuda are holding a Power of Three Wine-Tasting Night on Friday, November 26th at National Sports Centre Pavilion, North Field at 6.30pm. Unlike most other wine-tastings, you can't just turn up because YOU are bringing the wine and so need to put a little thought into it.  All you have to do is assemble a team of 3 people, decide as a team your favorite bottle of wine, each person purchases the SAME bottle of that favorite wine (that's three bottles per team), then bring it with you to the venue and the tasting begins. The varietal for this event is European White and there are prizes for the best and worst wines. Tickets are $30 per person, unless you have attended one of their events before, in which case tickets are $20 per person.  To RSVP, contact bdabacchanalian@northrock.bm or 291-1474. Proceeds go to The Continental Society of Bermuda, a local charity dedicated to the socioeconomic and cultural welfare of underprivileged children and youth.  Please make sure that you fully read the instructions on the Evite here as you may be denied entry if you haven't followed the rules properly!

  • Okay, I don't usually like telling you about events unless I'm 100% sure but I'll make an exception since so many people have told me about this one.  The Marketplace Santa Parade looks like it's going ahead this Sunday, November 28th.  I haven't been able to find out anything else so I'm not sure if I'm just looking in the wrong places or if it's a Ninja Santa Parade that they would like to slip by unnoticed.  I'll update as soon as I find out any other information.  **UPDATE:  The roads close at 12 noon and the parade starts at 5pm.

  • Another opportunity to buy unique Christmas gifts, the 15th Annual Home-Grown Alternatives Shopping Event will be held at St. Paul's Christian Education Centre, Paget on Saturday, December 4th.  From 10am until 4pm, you will be able to shop a wide variety of Bermuda handmade arts and crafts, including chocolates, glassworks, pottery, cards, jewellery and more.   For more details, including a list of participating artists, see http://www.homegrownalternatives.com.
