Hi Kids!

Me again!  Lots coming up over the next little while so I guess it's no rest for the wicked (or the not-generally-wicked-but-very-moody-without-caffeine in my case)..  Anyway, here's what's happening in Bermuda:

  • Tomorrow's Moonlight Bazaar at Moon Nightclub & Lounge will include a swim and summer wear fashion show by the Booth (who’ll also give you a 20% off voucher if you purchase something on the night), singer/songwriter Propa performing his new release Super Bad, and new vendor Private Pleasures, for those looking to spice up their bedroom life. This is in addition to the usual assortment of accessories, clothing, pedicures, manicures, massages and the Moon Cocktail List. As usual, this will be from 5.30pm until 9pm with the DJ starting at 10pm.  Here’s the flyer

  • The Fairmont Hamilton Princess are giving us a little extra treat at Happy Hour this Friday as they present their first international artist, Alex Cuba, performing live!   The Cuban-Canadian artist has won two Juno Awards, a SOCAN Award, a Latin Grammy Award and a BMI Latin award, and will be playing from 6pm until 6.45pm and 7.15pm until 8.30pm with a DJ playing in between.  Here's the flyer!

  • The next of the Historical Heartbeats Lecture Series will be Bold, Beautiful Bermudian Women on Saturday, July 9th from 2.30pm at Grotto Bay, Hibiscus South. Speakers are Meredith Ebbin, Lisa Howie, and Ruth Thomas MBE, with poetry by Jane Downing. There is a $10 fee for the talk and tea and sandwiches will be served. For more details or for tickets, contact Folklife Officer Dr. Kim Dismont Robinson on 292-1681, or see the website at www.communityandculture.bm – here’s the flyer!

  • Francophiles will be aware that Bastille Day is coming up on Thursday, July 14th and who better to celebrate with than l’Alliance Française des Bermudes? This year they will be hosting a Soirée Monégasque at Beau Rivage with cocktails and canapés from 6.30pm, dinner served at 7.30pm and a cash bar. Tickets are on sale until July 12th at the new Pulp & Circumstances store on Washington Lane and cost $75 for members or $90 for non-members (including grats). For more information see www.alliancefrancaise.bm or contact@alliancefrancaise.bm. Here’s the flyer and  here’s the menu!

  • The Bermuda Volleyball Association's 4th Annual Amstel Pulse Beach Volleyball Cup will be held on Saturday, July 16th. The tournament will run from 10am until 4pm at Horseshoe Bay and registration will be opening later this week.  This is a Same-Sex Team Tournament with Women’s ‘A’ 2-a-side and ‘B’ 4-a-side Divisions and Men’s ‘A’ 2-a-side and ‘B’ 4-a-side Divisions. B Teams are limited to 1 A-Level Player. There will be prizes for top teams in each division as well as for the most creative/awesome/hilarious team uniforms. Lunch is provided, as well as Amstel beer, water, other drinks and live DJ'd music. The cost is $120 for each 4-a-side team and $60 for each 2-a-side team.  Registration details and other updates will be posted on their Facebook Group as they become available.

  • I previously told you about auditions  for the next BMDS production but now I have details of the show itself. Shakespeare in the Park: Much Ado About Nothing, directed by John Zuill, will run from Sunday, July 17th until Sunday, July 24th in Victoria Park at 8pm. Seating is on a first-come-first-served basis on three banks of bleachers and/or you can bring a blanket and a picnic. There will be a bar with wine, beer and sodas before the show and at intermission and Daylesford theatre will be open after the show.. Tickets are $25 and go on sale a little earlier to members (from tomorrow) and go on general sale on July 11th. More details can be found at www.bmds.bm and here's the link to the event on Facebook.

  • The Wellness Group, sponsored by Down to Earth, are bringing two free Community Health and Nutrition Workshops to Cathedral Hall on Saturday, July 23rd.  At 1pm, you can learn about Transitioning to a Vegetarian Diet and at 2.30pm, you can learn about Optimising Health Through Nutritional Supplements.  Here's the flyer!

  • There have been a few rumours of this having been moved to the week after Cup Match this year, but the Non-Mariners Race has been confirmed for Sunday, July 31st at the usual spot of Mangrove Bay/Sandys Boat Club. Non-Activities start with the Non-Penguins Fly Past 1.14pm + 63 sec, Non-Noodle Race 1.30pm + 64 sec, Non-Memorial to our Mass-Cot 1.47pm + 69 sec, Non-Calypso Pipe Band 2.29pm + 84 sec, Non-Float Race at 3pm + 67 sec and Non-MC will be Bruce Baritt. For anyone interested in entering the Non-Race, the entry fee is $25 and forms are available at Audio-Visual Electronics. Also, for more information on Cup Match, Bermuda.com have brought back their website dedicated solely to Cup Match – www.BermudaCupMatch.com. The vast majority of you will be very familiar with what Cup Match entails but any island newbies or tourists might want to check out the History section for some background of the biggest holiday of the year.
