Morning all!

Ah, the joys of the four-day working week!  If only there could be more of them!  But then I suppose we would have much less money to be able to afford three-day weekends…

  • Lido’s next Wine Pairing Dinner will take place on Thursday, April 1st, 2010. The cost is $75 per person and includes all wines and gratuities. Let me know if you’d like the flyer with the menu. View this photo
  • The Fairmont Southampton and Bacardi International have announced the new Bacardi National Par-3 Championship, a two-day, 36-hole championship golf tournament to be played at The Fairmont Southampton on April 10th and 11th. A Pro-Am will be played on Friday, April 9th. I have no idea what a Pro-Am is but it sounds important. The best part is that funds from the tournament will benefit the Bermuda Red Cross. For more information and Entry Form, please see http://www.fairmont.com/SHP/bacardinationalpar3championship

  • The 72nd Annual Bermuda Exhibition (formerly known as the Ag Show) will be at the Botanical Gardens from the 15th until the 17th of April. Entry is only 10 dollars and full details can be found at www.bdaexhibition.bm.  I definitely want to check it out this year, especially since I just found out that the star attraction will be racing pigs!

  • To mark their 125th birthday, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess are offering a complimentary night, as well as additional nights at only $125, for all stays between now and December 31st. A three night minimum stay is required and you’ll be given the option to upgrade to Fairmont Gold for an additional $75 per night. For more details, see www.fairmont.com/hamilton

  • L’Oriental Express are now open late for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5pm until 8.30pm, offering a 10% discount on hot Oriental/Italian food. Also, Monday to Thursday, there is a 30% discount on any pre-packaged sushi or salad between 5pm and 6pm.

  • Also, the Gibbons 5 Day Spring Sale is now on – let me know if you’d like the flyer! View this photo

Sometimes, I really wonder what is wrong with people.  I feel bad for what happened to her, but personally, I think that if you try to make friends with a giant evil pig, you kinda bring this on yourself:

MONKEY NEWS:  The best part of the article is the bit about the “incoming baboon” text message:

Evening all!

Let's hope that today was just a blip and that winter really is over.  In any case, it was wonderful to have a weekend like that – it's been far too long!  Anyway, lots coming up over the next few weeks:

  • Any arty-types amongst you might be interested in Impressions from Life: Defining American Impressionism at the Bermuda National Gallery on Thursday, March 25th.   This is a lecture by Lynn Marsden-Atlass, Director, of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania.  She will examine the aesthetic, social and technological changes that forged this new art movement and illustrate its growth.  The reception is at 5.30pm, followed by the lecture at 6pm, and the cost is $10 for members or $20 for non-members.
  • If you’re into golf, this will suit you down to a tee!  <Tumbleweed rolls past>  Sorry, I’ll get my coat.  Anyway, details on the Ross Blackie Talbot Charity Classic are on www.rbtcharitygolf.org.  Corresponding events will run from Thursday, April 1st until Wednesday, April 7th and since its beginning the charity has raised in excess of $2,500,000 for over 75 Bermudian charities.
  • Golfers will also be pleased to hear of the first annual Little Venice Group Golf Classic on Friday, April 16th.  Again, this is a charity one, with proceeds going to benefit the Haiti relief programme.  Contact golf4haiti@diningbermuda.com for details.
  • Back by popular demand, the Cambridge Beaches Murder Mystery Night will take place on Saturday, April 17th.  At $95 per person, the price includes complimentary canapés/a welcome drink on arrival at 7pm, 3 course dinner seating at 8pm, and the interactive show with music.  For anyone who doesn’t feel like going home afterwards, rooms are available at a special rate of $199 per couple per night, inclusive of breakfast.  Dress code is “Dress to Impress”.  Here is the flyer – View this photo
  • Anyone looking for a unique dining experience on a Monday evening might be interested in the Wild Card Chef’s Table at Beau Rivage.  This gives you the opportunity to dine in the kitchen, watching the chefs at work while enjoying a surprise 5-course dinner based on fresh seasonal produce, with an optional flight of wines.  This used to be offered to parties of 8-12 but has now been opened up so that singles, couples and smaller groups can all join together.  Cost is $95 per person.  Contact info@bearivage.com for reservations.  Here is the flyer – View this photo

MONKEY NEWS:  Sadly, the article wasn’t quite as interesting as the headline lead me to believe – still, at least the photo is funny:

Mwah, mwah, mwah to you all!

In case you’re wondering, I am sending you kisses in observance of Lips Appreciation Day!  This is probably a holiday invented by lip-balm manufacturers but let’s go with it anyway:

  • It seems like there is a bit of a Harvard invasion of Bermuda going on right now. As well as Hasty Pudding Theatricals, who are performing Commie Dearest this week, The Harvard Krokodiloes, Harvard University's oldest a cappella singing group will be performing at Blu tonight. Performance times are 7 until 7.20pm and then 8.20 until 8.40pm. Blu have also extended their Early Bird Special until March 31st so if you dine before 7.15pm, your two-course meal (starter and main, or main and dessert) is $29.75 per person (plus 15% gratuity) or $34.75 for all three courses. Let me know if you’d like the flyer.

  • Coming soon to City Hall Theatre is Magic Fest 10. I have never been to this before but it is being billed as Celebrating 10 years of the beautiful Art of Magic – a Family Event. Featured artists include Puck, Chris Capehart and Will Roya, alongside the best of Bermuda's magicians and variety artists. This will run from March 26th until March 28th and tickets are now on sale at bdatix.com – $35 for adults and $25 for children under 18.

  • Anyone still looking for a way to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day tomorrow?? Lemon Tree are kick-starting the festivities with Guinness, Irish Whiskey and green beer from 9am(!), as well as a traditional Irish breakfast and lunch.

Quick Recap:

Commie Dearest – March 18th to 20th

Bermuda International Film Festival – March 18th to 25th

Shamrock & Roll 3 – March 20th

Magic Fest 10 – March 26th to 28th

Renegades’ Booze Cruise – April 1st

Mad Hatter’s Party – April 3rd

You have to read the part about his breakfast experiments – I’m really hoping he’s being ironic!  Hysterical regardless:

MONKEY NEWS:  At last!  Prince Philip meets someone else almost as diplomatic as he is:

Hope you're all enjoying the extra hour of daylight as much as I am!
