If this is Spring, then sign me up – am loving the beautiful weather we’ve been having these past few days! As you’ll all know by now, as the weather improves, the calendar fills up, so here is the latest news on events in Bermuda:
As part of the Historical Heartbeats Lecture Series, there will be a film night at Bermuda National Library on Thursday, March 12th.
From 6pm, there will be a screening of Bermuda and World War II (Part IV) from Brendan Hollis’ About Bermuda series. This is the final chapter of the ministries which detailed Bermuda’s involvement in the Second World War. The events on the island during those years as well as Bermuda’s contribution to the war effort are all recorded in this historically important series.
This film will be moderated by Andrew Bermingham, who will be on hand to answer questions.
This event is free to the public.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art opened their new show, Karl Struss and the Dawn of Tourism, to the public on Friday, February 27th.
Karl is one of the most important yet overlooked photographers of all time. He travelled to Bermuda and documented the island’s beauty. Masterworks has a few of these prints gracing the walls on the Mezzanine Level.
The exhibit will run until September 30th.

Guest artist Ted Michener will soon be exhibiting his series of paintings at his Artist in Residence Exhibit at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, opening to the public on Saturday, March 14th.
Hailing from St. Andrews, Canada, Ted’s medium of choice is oil on canvas. The works that he created while in Bermuda will be showcased and available for purchase in the Rick Faries Gallery.
The exhibit will run until March 25th.

Flex your mental muscle to win some prizes at Quiz Night at the Mariner’s Club on Saturday, March 14th.
Dinner is served at 6.30pm and the quiz itself starts at 7.30pm sharp. Teams should contain between 4 and 6 people. If you haven’t got a team, they will form one for you!
The cost is $30 per person, which also includes dinner of a meat or vegetable lasagne with Caesar salad.

The March edition of the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series will be at BUEI on Sunday, March 15th with the documentary 112 Weddings showing at 3pm. This is an award-winning documentary about the timeless themes of love and marital commitment.
This will be followed at 5.15pm by 1971, an award-winning documentary film about ordinary citizens who uncover an FBI programme to spy on American citizens

Celebrate St. Paddy’s with a wee bit of Irish and lots of fine teas, at Masterworks’ St. Patrick’s Day “Green” Tea on Tuesday, March 17th.
This will take place in the Members’ Lounge from 3pm until 5pm.
The cost is $10 for members, $15 for non-members, and tickets are available from Masterworks.

Emmanuel Methodist Church in Southampton are holding a Car Boot Sale on Saturday, March 21st.
This will run from 9am until 1pm and raffle tickets for a gourmet gift basket will also be available for $1 or or 6 tickets for $5.
If you have your own items to sell, tables are available at a cost of $20.

Dine in the 1920s with a 3-course dinner catered by the Mad Hatter’s Restaurant at the Mariners Club’s Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday, March 21st.
Help to add atmosphere by dressing up in 1920’s styles (not compulsory) and join them at 7pm for cocktails, followed by dinner and the start of Murder-in-the-Manor at 8pm sharp.
Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, March 18th for catering purposes and any vegetarian requirements should be advised at the time of purchase.

Have fun and raise money for our seniors at the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors Residence Charity Walk on Sunday, March 22nd.
The walk will begin and end at the Botanical Gardens and they ask that you get there around 2.30pm for a 3pm start. Gombeys and dancers will perform after the walk.
The registration fee is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Online registration is available at www.RaceDayWorld.com and the deadline is 4pm on March 18th. Part proceeds will go towards activities for our seniors.

Watch dogs of different breeds and size compete at the International Dog Events Association (IDEA)’s Dog Agility Show on Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29th.
This will run from 8.30am until 3pm each day at Somersfield Academy. This is a United States Dog Agility Association titling event with dogs competing from Novice through Masters levels over two days, earning qualifications towards international titles.

St. Anthony’s Church are hosting a Car Boot Sale from 9am until 2pm on Saturday, March 28th.
The fee for vendors is $25, which includes a table, and entry is free for shoppers.

Bermuda’s most beautiful asset will be celebrated at the 4th Annual Bermuda Beach Art Festival on Saturday, March 28th.
Artists of all skill levels are invited to participate in this island-wide eco art competition that sees Bermuda’s beautiful beaches adorned with amazing art drawn right on the sand, incorporating the rocks, caves or shape of the beach and exists until the next high tide washes them away.
Don’t know anything about beach art? Don’t worry, as each year an international beach artist hosts free tricks and techniques workshops in advance of the competition. This year’s guest beach artist is Tony Plant from Conwall in England, who will host four workshops on Horseshoe Bay from 3pm until 5pm on Saturday, March 21st and then from Tuesday, March 24th until Thursday, March 26th from 5.30pm until 6.30pm daily.
To enter, reserve your beach by March 21st by going to www.BermudaBeachArtFestival.com with your individual or team name, category (Adult/Family/Teen/Tourist) and choice of beach. Your choice will be confirmed by return email. Your art must be created between 9am and noon and your picture posted to the website by 2pm. The main event is on Horseshoe Bay, where they will also feature yoga on the beach.There will also be free yoga also on Elbow Beach from 11am to noon.
There is no cost to participants or spectators.

Just in time for whale season, Masterworks presents a new exhibit of photography by Andrew Stevenson, opening to the public in the Rick Faries Gallery on Saturday, March 28th.
Andrew has captured the most beautiful imagery of whales off Bermuda waters and the exhibit will run until April 25th.

Saturday, March 28th is the last Saturday of the month, which means that it’s Super Saturday at Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens!
From 10am until 2pm, children and their families will be encouraged to participate in art, with free activities spread throughout the museum and outside. Free admission allows visitors to wander through all the galleries and to engage in as many different craft activities as they would like. There are 3 or 4 different activities on hand, suitable for children from toddlers to teens. Some will require parental assistance while others are kids only.
Each month has a different theme and this one will be Robots. There is no need to register so you can just turn up on the day.

Dust off your dancing shoes and search through your closet for a 70s/80s outfit as the Bermuda Red Cross is having A Night at the Disco at Studio Red at the Pier 6 Waterfront Complex on Saturday, April 25th.
The party will run from 9pm until 2pm and there are three ticket options available, all of which include a welcome drink at the disco.
Firstly, there is the entrance fee of $65 per person. The Pre-Disco Dinner package option will include a 3 course set meal as well as the entrance fee for $125 per person. Finally, you can upgrade to the VIP option, which includes Lounge Seating for 12 in addition to the Pre-Disco Dinner package and entrance fee at a cost of $185 per person. Restaurant choices are Port O Call, Bistro J, Pearl and Ruby Murrays.

Looking for the perfect summer programme for sporty kids aged between 3 and 8? Sportz Mania’s 2015 Summer Multi-Sport Programmes run every Saturday from July 4th until August 22nd at Somersfield Academy.
