Hope you all had a fantastic Easter weekend!  Here is an update on the latest island happenings for the next couple of months:

 

The Bermuda Hospitality Institute is hosting the 3rd Annual Hospitality Month, which will focus on all aspects of Bermuda’s hospitality industry. The theme encourages everyone to “Experience Bermuda,”

Each week, Monday to Sunday, a different area of the Island will be promoted featuring eco and cultural activities, historical architecture, leisure activities and dining and accommodations.

A good time will be served up at the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) Open Singles Challenge at Coral Beach Tennis Club from Wednesday, April 8th until Saturday, April 11th, 2015.

All matches from Wednesday to Friday will begin no later than 5.30pm, while the finals will take place on Saturday at 1pm for ladies and 3pm for men.

The cost of entry is $30 and must be returned with the entry form to W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium drop box or by email to info@blta.bm. The deadline for entry is noon on Monday, April 6th.

You are invited to join current and retired NFL players for the Bermuda Golf Classic at Port Royal Golf Course from Thursday, April 9th to Saturday, April 11th.

NFL players and guests will arrive on the Wednesdays, with an optional practice round and NFL players private dinner on the Thursday.

The NFL Players Tournament will be on the golf course on the Friday from 8am until 2pm, with players going head to head against each other. Spectators are encouraged to come along and walk the golf course to find out who will hold the title of NFL Golf Tournament Champion throughout the upcoming 2015 football season (gross and net scoring).  Photos and autographs will be available at the Bella Vista Bar & Grill 19th Hole Cocktail Party immediately following play (no autographs during play).

The Pro-Am Scramble Tournament on Saturday will also be from 8am until 2pm. Members of the public can arrange a foursome and then “draft” an NFL Player to join them as their 5th. The cost is $5,000 per team. Again, spectators are encouraged to come out and support the event. Prizes will be awarded at a private post-tournament cocktail party.

Spectator grounds access is free of charge during play.

Join BUEI for an exciting and adventure-filled evening as they delve into the world of pirates at The Pirate Menace: Exploring Piracy Past and Present at 7.30pm on Thursday, April 9th.

William Zuill will discuss his new book The Pirate Menace focusing on the historical period when authorities took on pirates as they were becoming a major problem to the big economies of the world, followed by a panel discussion on modern day piracy. Panel members include Dr. David Saul (Odyssey Marine Exploration), Jens Alers (Bernard Schulte Ship Management), James Watlington (Alexanders Barristers & Attorneys) and Bill Zuill as moderator.

William Zuill will be signing copies of his book on the night.

The lecture will start at 7.30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium and Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event. Nicole Simons is the latest local artist to exhibit her work in Homer’s Cafe, from Friday, April 10th.

Through the use of vibrant colors she has captured the essence of art as a therapeutic process. The show is entitled Sun Daze, which speaks to the quiet moments on a Sunday afternoon, when she was free to create and get lost in the artistic process.

The show will run until Thursday, April 30th and artwork is available for purchase.

A sure sign that sunny days are coming back, Happy Hour at Lemon Tree is back this Friday, April 10th.

For any newbies or tourists, the legendary Lemon Tree Wine Down Happy Hour runs from 5pm until midnight throughout the summer with a DJ and regular drink specials Later in the year, Lemon Tree will also open out to Par-la-Ville Park, depending how crowded it gets.

Bermuda Folk Club are hosting Chewstick Night on Saturday, April 11th at Spanish Point Boat Club.

Beginning at 8pm, this great evening of entertainment, celebrating all styles of music, will feature guest Chewstick artists, with part proceeds going to support the renovation of the new Chewstick community hub.

The Bermuda Society for the Blind’s (BSFB) monthly information and sharing group, Vision Talk, focuses its April meeting on healthy eyes.

Vision Talk: Healthy Body, Healthy Eyes will take place at Beacon House on Monday, April 13th.

From 6pm, you can join Melonie Furbert, Public Health Nutritionist from the Dept. of Health and Dr. Leonard Teye-Botchway, Consultant Ophthalmic Physician and Surgeon and founder and Medical Director of the Bermuda International Eye Institute as they discuss how lifestyle choices, proper nutrition and ongoing professional eye care directly affect your vision and the health of your eyes.

Each month Vision Talk provides information about vision loss as well as an opportunity to network, share and socialize in a caring, supportive environment.

Vision Talk welcomes anyone that is interested in healthy vision and/or living with vision loss. Adults who are blind or have limited sight, including those who are experiencing a gradual vision loss are encouraged to attend, as are family, friends and professionals who support blind or visually impaired individuals.

Art enthusiasts of all levels can enjoy an opportunity to drink and create with Masterworks’ Artist in Residence Lindsay Hopkins-Weld at Whet Your Palette on Wednesday, April 15th.

From 5.30pm until 7.30pm, you will sip on hand-selected wines while Lindsay demonstrates the use of water colours. Participants are asked to bring an image with contrasting colours.

Warwick Academy Alumni Association invites you to an Art Auction and Wine Tasting Evening at ACE Gallery on Friday, April 17th.

From 5.30pm, you can view and bid on artwork by local artists and Warwick Academy students, with the option to indulge in a wine tasting by Two Rock Wines Limited.

This will run from 9am until 2pm, and you can also find Portuguese Donuts and hot lunch for sale.

Opening to the public on Saturday, April 18th, Masterworks presents French Impressions by Rhona and Mark Emmerson, a collection of oil paintings that were done while visiting the South of France, a very happy and sunny place to visit and paint.

They are all plein air landscapes filled with sunflowers and country lanes. The paintings are all framed and ready to find happy homes. In addition, Mark Emmerson, will have some of his photos of images also captured in the South of France and the countryside.

The exhibit will run until April 29th.

Saturday, April 25th is the last Saturday of the month, which means that it’s Super Saturday at Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens!

From 10am until 2pm, children aged 12 and under and their families will be encouraged to participate in art, with free activities spread throughout the museum and outside. Free admission allows visitors to wander through all the galleries and to engage in as many different craft activities as they would like.

Each month has a different theme and this one will be Setting Sail. There is no need to register so you can just turn up on the day.

Marking the third year that it has been performed, We are Climbin’ Jacob’s Ladder will hit the stage at 4pm at St. James Church on Sunday, May 3rd.

This is a first for the island. Locally written by author and scholar, Dale Butler, a professor of local culture, audiences are left stunned and rolling in their seats.

Tickets are $20, $40 for patrons, and can be purchased at the door or from Caesar’s Pharmacy in Sandys or from the Music Box.

Warwick Seventh-day Adventist Church will be hosting a series of discourses on the Bible books of Daniel and the Revelation from Sunday, Mary 3rd until Saturday, May 30th.

The discourses will take place at 7pm on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. Preceding the meeting, there will be a half-hour health seminar at 6.30pm. Soup and buns will be served from 5.30 pm each evening.

Warwick Seventh-day Adventist Church are hosting a Community Guest Day on Saturday, May 9th.

This is the church’s invitation to the local community to come and worship God with them and to meet you and share their faith with you.

School is out and camp is in at the Spicelands Equestian Centre as they invite you for a fun-filled experience at their Summer Fun Camp begins on Monday, June 29th.

Half days run from 8.30am until noon, while full days run until 4pm. They days are action-packed with grooming, riding, learning, playing and much much more. The camp will run weekly until the week beginning August 31st.

The weekly cost is $325 for half days and $375 for full days, with the exception of July 27th to 29th, which costs $195 for half and $225 for full.

The sexiest and most liberating event at LIV will be Wet Dreams on Saturday, July 4th. Partygoers will drink and dance under the stars on this booze cruise party hosted by Henny Palooza. The dress code is All White (less is best) and an open bar with finger food will be available.

FantaSea promises to be the Atlantic Ocean’s Ultimate Water Party on Sunday, July 5th. From 11am until 1pm, the Dock Party will have a live DJ and amazing food spread before the Raft Up from 1pm to 7pm where you’ll find coolers filled with ready to drink bars on all yachts. Wear your swimwear, drink responsibly (while including plenty of water), and have the time of your lives. This yacht/water party will have an open bar and buffet.

The early bird rate for the All Inclusive International Party Pass for LIV 15 is $400 in April, going up to $425 in May, $450 in June and $500 in May. The pass can be purchased at www.LIVbda.com and a payment plan is also available until April 15th to lock in the $400 rate.

The host hotel is the Fairmont Southampton and the room rate starts at $339 per night. The balance does not have to be paid until the end of your trip.

From April 1st, Spicelands Equestrian Centre are offering relaxing, revitalizing, fun Trail Rides for everyone aged 12 and over.

There are three group rides available. Firstly, the Atlantic Splash from 7am until 8am offers a one hour Scenic Beach trail ride, along the Historic Railway trails, onto the South shore Beaches and includes a walk along the beach. The trail guide will share great information along the way and a few folk tales too. Once back at the Stables, they offer light breakfast refreshments. The cost is $110 per person.

The One Hour Fun Group Trail Ride can be from 10am, 11.30am or 3pm and includes a one hour Scenic Beach trail ride along the Historic Railway trails, onto the dunes of the South Shore Beaches. The trail guide will share interesting fact about Bermuda life and our wonderful fauna and flora. The cost is $90 per person.

The Evening Ride is available from 6pm until 7pm and includes a relaxed evening meander along our trails onto the dunes of the South shore Beaches. The trail guide will share interesting facts and tidbits about Bermuda life and our wonderful fauna & flora. The cost is $100 per person.

Private Rides are also available by special appointment, at a cost of $125 per rider for one hour.

No experience is necessary as directions will be provided by your guide.
