St. George’s Parish Council and Burrows Lightbourn invite you to join them at their Wine Tasting at Sunset reception at beautiful Fort. St. Catherine on Friday, September 25th.

From 6.30pm until 9pm, you can explore the fort, see the sun set, and watch the moon rise, all while enjoying carefully selected wines and hors d’oeuvres.

The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is proud to introduce, as part of its more than $90M renovation, a public art program throughout the lobby and public spaces in the hotel.

The Hamilton Princess Art Tour will take place at 10am every Saturday.

Contemporary works are juxtaposed against the historic architectural details and crown molding to enliven the space. The collection includes artists such as Andy Warhol (Queen Elizabeth II, Reigning Queens), Damien Hirst (Cineole), Nelson Mandela (Impressions of Africa, Key & Bars, and Struggle Series), Bansky, and Philippe Decrauzat (Sz), among others.

These guided tours will be offered by tour guide Stephanie Gibson, and by special appointment through the hotel. The starting point of the walking tour is in the lobby and it also includes the contemporary works on display at the hotel’s neighbour, Waterloo House, as well as a walk through Queen Elizabeth Park, which features a number of sculptures from the collection of the Bermuda National Gallery.

Following the art walk tea and breakfast treats will be served at the hotel.

The tour is complimentary and there is no need to RSVP.

By popular demand, the Bermuda Docs Weekend Film Series are hosting a second screening of Amy on Sunday, September 27th.

This will be at 3pm in the usual location of the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI. Amy is the incredible story of six-time Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse – in her own words.

Presenting an exiting mix of oils, pen and ink, pastels and acrylic creation of Island wide landscapes and a byways look at Bermuda’s historical areas and homes, a new show by the Plein Air Group of Bermuda will open on Sunday, September 27th at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard.

The opening reception will be from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

The show will remain open until October 23rd and admission is free. The Arts Centre is open daily from 10am until 5pm and is wheelchair accessible.

To mark International Right to Know Day, the Information Commissioner invites the public to come learn more about how to use your rights under the new Public Access to Information (PATI) Act at one of three different sessions from Monday to Wednesday, September 28th to 30th.

Session 1 will run from 6pm in the The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity Hall. Session 2 will run from 6.30pm in the World Heritage Centre at Penno’s Wharf, St. George’s. Session 3 will run from 7pm at Dalton E. Tucker Primary.

The Information Commissioner will talk about our new rights – and how information access laws are used in other countries.

This event is free and all are welcome.

Enjoy nature’s laser light show in a full and fun evening aboard the luxury catamaran Ana Luna, as they invite you to join them for a Glow Worms Safari on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 29th and 30th.

This exotic evening on the seas will begin when the boat departs from the dock at Grotto Bay at 6pm. After enjoying the pinks and blues of the sunset, you can witness the glow-in-the-dark mating ritual of these unusual creatures, performed two and three days after the full moon during the warmer months. Following the worm display, you will enjoy moonrise with a complimentary champagne toast, before returning to the dock by around 9pm.

The latest in the series of BUEI Talks will be Caught Between the Bear and the Wolf by Helle Patterson on Tuesday, September 29th.

What happens when you are a small country in a crucially important geographical position, fought over by Stalin’s Soviet armies and Hitler’s Nazi forces? The Baltic States in World War II. Helle Patterson was born a year before the much-feared Soviet tanks rolled into Estonia, her homeland. This is her story.

The lecture will start at 7.30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium and Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event. Restoration House Ministries, BDA presents He Loves Me 2015: His Island’s Glory from Thursday, October 1st to Sunday, October 4th.

This will take place at the First Church of God on Angle Street. just before Scratchy’s Barber Shop, and participants should be ready to work in comfortable clothing, identify your worth and jewels, understand how you can use your worth and jewels, make a plan to utilize your worth and jewels, extend your thinking globally, nationally, and personally, and to find out Glorious plans for Bermuda.

This event is recommended for both men and women; people that study the word, but don’t go to church; those who wonder what to do next; those who have an idea but are not sure how to use it; those who need motivation, increased self-esteem or self-worth; those who want to learn how to pray for yourself; and those who want to see a change on the island, or your hometown.

Conference Presenters will be Pastor Madeline Hayward from Bermuda, General Joan Simmons from Bermuda, Sis. Georgette Jones from Bermuda, and Prophetess Shirley Mathew from St. Kitts. The soloists will be Ruthella Smith in song and Crystal Anderson in dance.

The opening service at 7pm on Thursday night and the closing service at 4.30pm on Sunday are both free.

Who needs Broadway? The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda are saving you the airfare as they are back with their annual October production. This year, they are proud to present The Drowsy Chaperone starting on Thursday, October 1st.

Winner of 5 TONY Awards (including Best Book and Best Original Score). The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of a Jazz age musical featuring one show-stopping song and dance after another.

With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record – the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not so bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, a female aviator and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical”, The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. The original Broadway production of The Drowsy Chaperone was produced by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Bob Boyett, Stephanie McClelland, Barbara Freitag and Jill Furman.

The show will run at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall from Thursday, October 1st to Saturday, October 10th except Monday, October 5th. Showtime is at 8pm, except for Sunday, October 4th which is at 3pm.

The Women Ministry at Faith Deliverance Center presents the play, The Helper, on Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd.

Showtime is at 7pm each evening in the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

To celebrate St. Francis of Assisi’s feast day, you and your pets are invited to the Unfinished Church for the Annual Blessing of the Animals at 3pm on Sunday, October 4th.

You are asked to arrive early to register your pet at the entrance and all animals must be on a leash or in a cage. This event is sponsored by St. Peter’s Church and the service will be conducted by Rev’d W. David Raths and Rev’d John Stow.

There is no fee but donations are welcome in aid of the SPCA.

Finally a Superbowl event just for young adults at #FlashbackFriday on Friday, October 9th.

From 8pm until 3am at Warwick Academy, 18 to 35 year olds are invited to relive their teenage Superbowl memories.

As well as a Gym Jam, just like you remember, with a few new games and just as much fun, there will also be an all new interactive game show that will get more of you on stage and winning prizes, and all-you-can-eat pizza and soda.

Bring your daughters, goddaughters, nieces, granddaughters to mark the U.N. International Day of the Girl on Sunday, October 11th.

From 2pm until 5pm, there will be an afternoon event for girls at the Bermuda National Sports Centre. In addition to raising awareness of the challenges facing girls globally, young ladies will be able to try some new activities and change the world. There will be football, golf, cricket and a fun obstacle course to try, plus much more. Picnics are encouraged.

This event is free to attend and all girls are invited.

A new Photography Exhibition by Paul Hardy Carter will soon be opening in the Rick Faries Gallery at Masterworks on Monday, October 12th.

Paul has never been tempted by digital photography as it rose to equal, and then surpass, film in absolute technical quality and convenience. He continues with a technique that he is now so familiar with that he can put it out of his mind, forget about it, and concentrate on what matters to him most – the composition and timing of the picture.

Jérôme Muffat-Méridol stated that although Paul Hardy Carter makes his projects sound simple and his methods straightforward, his approach is very deep and human and this simplicity is the strength of his language.

The exhibit opens on October 9th but the Opening Reception will take place on October 12th from 5.30pm until 7pm.

Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 11am until 4.30pm on Sundays. Masterworks is closed on public holidays. General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.

The exhibit will run until October 21st.

The Bermuda Historical Society and Bermuda National Library present Bermuda in Film on Thursday, October 15th.

From 5.30pm until 7pm at Bermuda National Library, you can view Bermuda: Then and Now, which was produced in 1984 and gives an overview of Bermuda’s early history, and Passage to Bermuda, which was produced in 1963 and features Jonathan Winters travels around Bermuda.

Enjoy a full day on the seas while watching the races up close and personal at the Ana Luna’s America’s Cup Extravaganza cruise on Friday, October 16th.

The all-day cruise aboard the luxury catamaran departs Grotto Bay at 10am, returning at 7pm. This outing will include long sails under the Ana Luna majestic rig, viewing of the America’s Cup races, swimming and fun in the water. There will also be a lavish buffet lunch served in courses, and the day will conclude with a sunset cruise and champagne toast on the sail back to Grotto Bay.

St. Anne’s Church presents the Ruth Thomas and Company production Walk Together Children on Sunday, October 18th.

This musical production begins at 4pm, and will feature guest instrumentalists, singers and dancers. Refreshments will be available after the performance in the church hall.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 15 years old.

Fans of both local history and the macabre are invited to join the Bermuda National Library as they host Bermuda Haunting: Ghost Stories with local author John Cox on Thursday, October 22nd.

From 5.30pm to 7pm, you can hear John Cox tell ghost stories and also have the opportunity to share your own experiences and family stories.

John Cox’s books will also be available for purchase on the night.

This event is free but spaces are limited so you are required to make a reservation if you wish to attend.

Celebrate the fall harvest with the Bermuda National Trust at FarmFest 2015, a family fun day on Saturday, October 31st.

From 10am until 4pm at Devondale, 33 South Road in Devonshire, this family fun day will offer activities for all ages, including games, a costume parade and competition, pony rides, photo booth, and much more. There will also be food and beer available.

The Bermuda National Gallery (BNG) is proud to announce the 2015 Annual Student Art Competition.

This year’s theme is Local Action, Global Impact: A Community Project on the World. The art competition encourages all public, private and home-school teachers of all subjects to participate with their students (Art, Science, English, Mathematics, Science, Advisory, Home-Room, Para-Educators. Guidance Counselors etc). Family members are also encouraged to support their child in submitting an artwork.

New for 2015, the BNG is proud to announce a category for student groups. Students who would like to work as a team and come up with a visual work together are welcomed to submit an artwork under the “Group Category”.

This year’s competition is sponsored by BELCO and hosted in partnership with Bermuda Zoological Society, with prizes sponsors by Office Solutions and Red Laser.

The submission deadline is 4pm on Thursday, November 19th at the BNG and the judging criteria can be found at www.bng.bm.

The November edition of the PartnerRe Art Lecture Series will be at Bermuda National Gallery at City Hall on Thursday, November 19th.

The guest speaker will be Franklin Hill Perrell, speaking on the topic, Plein-air painting: Learning from the Impressionists.

Franklin Hill Perrell is former Chief Curator of Nassau County Museum of Art (curator of over 50 major exhibitions); subsequently, historic preservationists as Executive Director of Roslyn Landmark Society (2009); and since 2013, co-founder and partner in Artful Circle, an organisation focused on public programming in art education.

This upcoming talk will examine the first generation of Impressionists (Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse) who laid the foundation for open air, plein-air painting, as we understand it. Portable paints, which were a new innovation in the 1800s, and small easels, allowed the artists to set up at any chosen site. The immediacy and freshness of the results astonished the art world. Shadows became flooded with colour with hues of purple, blue, lavender, green, in various combinations. The sun drenched-seemingly white walls – increasingly yielded dashes of yellow and orange. The legacy of these landscape impressions is far-reeaching and ongoing. American Post-impressionist painters (Beal, Voorhees, Martel) flocked to Bermuda in the 1900s to capture the light, the variety of colours reflected in the ocean, the gardens, and the architecture. This artistic pursuit continues today. This lecture that will explore the historical and contemporary narrative of plein-air painting.

The reception will be from 5.30pm, followed by the lecture itself at 6pm.

The cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
