There are three current exhibits at Bermuda National Gallery on the 2nd Floor in City Hall.

Firstly, the Bermuda Biennial 2016 exhibition is a platform for the contemporary art scene in Bermuda.  With the theme, It’s About Now: Memories of the Present , this exhibit has been juried by Holly Bynoe (Senior Curator, National Art Gallery of Bahamas; Executive Director, ARC magazine) and Valerie Cassel Oliver (Chief Curator, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston).  The Bermuda Biennial exhibition is sponsored by Bacardi Limited.

Featured artists are Meredith Andrews, Louisa Bermingham, William Collieson, Emma Cooper, James Cooper, Daniel C. Dempster, Ani Douglas, Vaughan Evans, Antoine A.R. Hunt, Christina Hutchings, Teresa Kirby Smith, Peter Lapsley, Jon Legere, Dany Pen, Jennifer Leigh Piper, Alan C. Smith, Andrea Sundt, Charlie Godet Thomas, Michael Walsh, and Charles Zuill.

ISACA Bermuda Chapter, in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and TFL, will be hosting a TechTalk on Cyber Insurance on Thursday, July 14th.

From 5.30pm until 7pm, at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, the discussion will cover a number of key topics, including; cyber risks, evolution of the cyber insurance product, and regulatory guidelines for underwriting of cyber risk.

The discussion will be moderated by Sheridan Smith, Director of Management Services/Information at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, and the panel will consist of Sarah Spurling (Vice President, Professional Lines at Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd.), Noel Pearman (Vice President, Professional Lines at XL Catlin), Giles Harrow (Vice President, Professional Risk Solutions at Aon (Bermuda) Ltd.), and David Friston (Senior Vice President, Financial Lines Manager at AIG Bermuda).

To help employers understand their responsibilities on the legal contributions and benefits for their employees, the Bermuda Health Council, in conjunction with the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a Panel Discussion: Legislated Employer Contribution on Friday, July 15th.

Employers who are non-compliant with their health insurance requirements are often delinquent with their other contributions such a social insurance and pension. As a snapshot of the problem, between 1st January 2015 and 31st December 2015, the Health Council investigated 1016 employers, representing 3,039 employees because of delinquency of their health insurance contributions. Following their investigations, 787 employers settled their arrears premiums and re-established policies. This resulted in 2,115 employees regaining health insurance. Evidence gathered during these investigations into health insurance often reveals non-compliance with other benefits.

Starting at 8am at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, the panel will feature Peter Sousa (Chief Executive Officer of Pension Commission), Nikeisha Gibbons (Customer Service Manager of Department of Health Insurance), Jean Charles-Prentice (Compliance Manager of Department of Social Insurance), and Ian Cameron (Policy Analyst/ Compliance Bermuda Officer Health Council). A light continental breakfast will be served.

Mix and mingle with international models and designers at the Bermuda Fashion Festival’s Celebrity Cocktail Party on Friday, July 15th.

The event will take place from 5:30pm to 8pm at the classy and eclectic BSOA, where you can preview fashions from local and international designers before they go on sale at Saturday’s trunk shows.

Celebrity guests will include international models, Win McMurry, Diandra Forrest, Kenyan Liang, Perpetual Smith, Destiny Owusu, Randy Bowden, Jr. Khalil Henley, Maxim Orlov, Savannah Joeckel and Karina Bik. As well as international designers, Stello of Hollywood red-carpet fame, Monif C, Evelyn Lambert, Thomas LaVone, Soka and Dana Cooper.

Show some love and support a charitable cause at a Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday, July 16th.

From 4pm to 6pm at Blue Diamond Young Men’s Social Club on Angle Street, you can get a dinner plate full of great food; including fish, chicken, macaroni and cheese, beans and rice, coleslaw, beets and dessert.

As part of the 2016 Emancipation Celebration, Jay Butler, Assistant Professor of Law at William and Mary Law School, will be giving the 11th Annual Dr. Kenneth E. Robinson/Cyril Outerbridge Packwood Memorial Lecture on Thursday, July 21st.

The talk will start at 6pm at BUEI and is entitled At Freedom’s Helm: Labour, Politics and Family in 19th Century Bermuda.

The fee is $5.

Enjoy a fun morning or evening of painting at a series of Painting Parties, with the next on Friday, July 22nd.

Located at The Painted Gate Art Studio at the Civil and Military Lodge on King Street, Robyn will guide you step-by-step in painting a new theme at each class.  On Friday, July 22nd, you will paint a beautiful Sunset from 6pm until 8pm, peaceful Dragonflies from 9am until 11am on Tuesday, August 2nd, a dreamily drifting Jellyfish from 9am until 11am on Wednesday, August 17th and a vibrant Peacock from 6pm until 8pm on Saturday, August 20th.

You are welcome to bring beverages and snacks, if you choose, and are asked to wear appropriate clothing or bring an apron.  You will be provided with brushes, paint, a canvas, and even wine glasses to use.   This acrylic painting class is suitable for all ability levels and no experience is necessary.  All participants will leave with the piece of artwork that they create.

The party will begin promptly at the scheduled time, so you are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to get seated and settled.

The cost is $55 per person and you are asked to pay in advance to reserve your space.

As part of the Corporation of St. George’s UNESCO Street Festival Series, you are invited to come and enjoy a Games Night in King’s Square on Friday, July 22nd.

This family-friendly event will take place between 6.30pm and 10pm, in King’s Square, St. George’s.

Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) is pleased to partner with Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) to host a Trash Art Workshop on Saturday, July 23rd.

From 10am until noon, participants will be instructed on how to build amazing creations out of nothing more than beach trash.

Taught by KBB’s Executive Director, Anne Hyde, this workshop is intended to raise awareness about plastic ocean pollution and is being offered in preparation for the KBB’s Washed Ashore: Trash Art Show, to take place two weeks later.

Although a great family activity, the workshop is unsuitable for small children as participants will be using hot glue.

The workshop is free to attend, and all material will be provided, including selections of beach trash.

Spaces are limited to 15 participants, and you are encouraged to register immediately to reserve your spot.

441 Productions and Veterans in Action are promising two nights of world class entertainment at the 4th Annual Cup Match Summer Splash, the largest concert event on the year on Saturday, July 23rd and Wednesday, July 27th.

The first event is the One Love One Life Concert from 7pm in Par-la-Ville Car Park on Saturday, July 23rd.  Headlining the show are two outstanding Reggae artists; Grammy-nominated Jah Cure and Bermuda’s own Collie Buddz. Also included in the line up are local sound systems Stalwart and SoulJAHOne who will be performing a dub plate expo for the patrons. Local entertainers will be Ali Malik and Ramon Clarke, with DJ’s Juggling J and Blackstar. Your host for the evening will be Bermuda’s own, Nadanja.

Promising to deliver an action-packed, high energy event, something all patrons crave on the eve of our most significant cultural holiday, the Cup Match Eve Concert will be from 8pm in Par-la-Ville Car Park on Wednesday, July 27th. The headliner will be Grammy award-winning artist and King of the Dancehall Beenie Man with the Zagga Zow band. Beenie Man is known for brining energetic long performances. Each headliner will be travelling with their own band, enabling tailored, production quality that patrons have come to expect from Summer Splash.

It has been two decades since Reggae legend Sanchez has been to Bermuda. Everyone on the island loves his music and his performance skills are still at the top of his game. He recently stole the show at Rebel Salute in Jamaica and is headlining Sumfest in Montego Bay the weekend prior to Cup Match.

Cup Match Eve would not be complete without two of the most in demand DJs in the world. Both were a part of Cup Match Summer Splash 2015 and are no strangers to Bermudas shores. Walshy Fire is a member of the EDM sensation Major Lazer and has been to the island many times as a DJ with Black Chiney.  Skratch Bastid, a judge for the global Red Bull #Style DJ contest has performed on over ten occasions. Local DJs for the night will be Rusty G and Blackstar. Additionally, local performer Olivia Hamilton will be performing and host for the night is Jabba from Hot 97 in New York City.
