Find the best summer camp for your children at the annual Saltus Association Summer Camp Fair on Thursday, March 9th.

This will run from 5pm and 7pm in the Saltus Secondary Department’s Alumni Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

A new exhibit is now open at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall.  The 52nd Annual Primary School Show, with the theme Reflections of Me, consists of work by primary school students under the tutelage of Bermuda’s Primary School Art Educators.

Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays. The exhibit will run until Monday, March 20th.

Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and all are welcome.

This will run from 12.30pm at Wesley Methodist Church.

Enjoy a day of family fun at the Pembroke Rotary Children’s Fair on Saturday, March 11th.

From 10am at St Paul’s Education Centre, there will be games, train rides, face painting, games, cookie jar, hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks.

There will also be a raffle draw at 5pm on the day and top notch prizes are promised.  The beneficiaries will be 13 government primary schools

Admission is free.

After being postponed due to the weather, the days of piracy return to Bermuda, but this time is all in the name of an excellent community cause, at the Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s Pirates of Bermuda event on Sunday, March 12th.

This fun-filled afternoon for the whole family will take place at Number 1 Dock on Front Street from 2pm until 5pm.  As in the 18th century, privateers aboard STV Spirit of Bermuda have been authorised by letters of marque to kidnap more than 50 community members for their riches.  Donations can be put towards freeing a hostage OR gleefully witnessing the Walking of the Plank straight into the chilly waters of Hamilton Harbour.  The public is invited to join them for the afternoon.  There will be pirates and pirating, music, food and fun for the whole family to enjoy as you witness the hostages meet their fate.

Contributions towards sinking or saving your favourite hostage be made right up until the day of the event online at www.pTix.bm or by calling Bermuda Sloop Foundation at 737-5667.  All funds raised from this event help ensure the continued operation of Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s Expeditionary Learning Programmes on board Sail Training Vessel Spirit of Bermuda, and student voyage bursaries.

The Bermuda Society For The Blind invite you to join them for their March Vision Talk Meeting on Monday, March 13th.

From 6pm in Astwood Hall at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, this monthly discussion group is open to the public and offers information on living with vision loss, providing opportunities to network, share, and socialize with others in a caring and supportive environment.

The topic for March is: Don’t stay home because of no or low vision.  Ms. Pamela Maybury from Worldview Travel and Mr. Richard Kitson, founder of the Bermuda Chapter of the Society For Accessible Travel and Hospitality (SATH), will speak about travel tips and accommodations for people who have vision impairments.

There is no cover charge but donations are gratefully accepted.  Transportation is available for vision impaired people, if requested with their RSVP.

The U.S. Consulate General invites you to a Harvard A Capella Free Concert on Tuesday, March 14th.

From noon until 1pm at the Anglican Cathedral on Church Street, the concert will feature the musical talents of two Harvard a capella groups, The Harvard Krokodiloes and the Radcliffe Pitches.

Voluntary donations will be gratefully accepted in aid of local charity SCARS.

Think you’re in pretty decent shape?  Individuals and teams of 2, 3 or 4 are invited to prove it by signing up for one or more events in the Bermuda Triple Challenge from Friday, March 17th until Sunday, March 19th.

This three day weekend charity obstacle course series offers participants an action-packed excursion showcasing three of Bermuda’s beautiful, historical and cultural highlights. Each challenge offers a different physical test between 3 and 10K distances with varying obstacles suitable for all levels of fitness, challenging both strength and stamina.

The Argus Urban Foot Race is the first of the weekend’s three events starting on Friday evening. The first wave begins at dusk at 7pm as participants navigate some of the town’s, as well as Bermuda’s, oldest streets, while tackling obstacles and Crossfit inspired workouts along the way. The 3K urban challenge emulates both strength and endurance as participants tackle 25 obstacles throughout the urban assault course.
After the event, stick around and enjoy the party atmosphere in the historic town. DJ Dan Ho livens up the atmosphere in a community block party.

The Sun Life Island Challenge on Saturday, March 18th delivers what Bermuda is so well known for; picturesque limestone bluffs, spectacular coves, natural trails, and some of the most famous pink sand beaches in the world, completed with various shades of light and deep aqua blue water. Welcome to paradise!  Staged on Bermuda’s south shore, within the south shore’s coastal nature reserve, the Island Challenge is a picturesque 5K or 10K test, which features some of Bermuda’s best pink sand beaches, coastal bluffs and nature trails. And to put the exclamation mark on the event, a visit to the Bermuda Regiment’s Assault Course at Warwick Camp, perched atop the sand dunes overlooking the south shore.  Those completing 2 laps will start at 8.40am, while the wave for  those completing one lap starts at 9:30am.  Afterwards, there will be a BBQ for the participants so they can recount their experiences to each other.

The ACE Global Royal Challenge on Sunday, March 19th is a 5K obstacle challenge within the confines of the once Royal Navy outpost and safe harbour. Now a tourism hot spot, including Bermuda’s national museum, local craftsmen, shops and restaurants, participants will explore the old base lands in a high energy, action packed circuit around the old stone buildings, wharves and fortifications. You’ll step back in time to the era of the British Empire, when Britannia ruled the waves.  Beginning at 9.45am, participants will have to run, swim (optional) and climb their way to gratification for completing this challenge. There will be a Buzz and Butterfield & Vallis participant appreciation brunch immediately afterwards.

The registration fee varies from $80 to $600, depending on how many are entering, how many challenges you are signing up for, and if you are an adult, corporate or junior team.   Both sign up and donations are available at www.RaceDayWorld.com and part of the registration goes to local registered charities assisting in marshalling the events.

Good for those new to meditation or those wishing to revive or deepen and establish regularity in practice, the Yoga Centre are offering an 8 Week Meditation Course starting on Thursday, March 30th.

From 7.30pm, this course will be taught by an ERYT 500, YACEP trainer and teacher through Yoga Alliance.  Participants will receive a good grounding into the practice of meditation- how to practice; use the mantra; explore various ways of meditation to increase experience and understanding and ultimately, how to settle on an approach best suited for them.

Students will also learn about the benefits and pitfalls of meditation and how it heals and works to support everyday life. A 1/2 hour meditation practice will apply each week as well as a Q & A discussion to inspire and deepen knowledge on this subject.

The cost is $175.

Bermuda is excited to host the Digicel Bermuda TriFest and ITU Continental Cup on Sunday, April 9th.

The event is an ITU (International Triathlon Union) Continental Cup, and is a draft-legal race over the Sprint distance.  ITU Continental Cup races attract some of the best triathletes in the world and are not just limited to elite triathletes from CAMTRI federations; elite and junior triathletes from National Federations outside CAMTRI are eligible and also welcome to enter.  As an ITU event, all elite triathletes must register for the race online and must also register through their National Federation to be entered into the ITU System.  Age group racing, sponsored by Digicel, take place in the morning followed by the elite races later in the morning.

The Age Group race will be a Sprint Distance Triathlon (750m swim/20km bike/5km run). The team races will be split into Male/Female, Mixed and Corporate events.The age groups will be 16 to 19 year olds, 20 to 29 year olds, 30 to 39 year olds, 40 to 49 years old, 50 to 59 years old, and 60+.

The juniors will use an abridged version of the same course as the elites and the race categories and distances are 7 to 10 year olds (100m swim/5km bike/1km run), 11 to 12 year olds (200m swim/10km bike/2km run), and 13 to 15 year olds (375m swim/10km bike/2.5km run).

The junior races will start at 7am while the age group races will start at 8.15am.

The cost is $30 for juniors, $60 for individual competitors, and $120 for team entries.  Registration is available at www.RaceDayWorld.com.

Those of you who love olde worlde-style pomp and circumstance will be happy to know that the Peppercorn Ceremony will be on Wednesday, April 19th.

A firm fixture on the Bermuda calendar since 1816, this year will mark the the 201st anniversary of this quaint annual tradition.

Starting from 10am in King’s Square in St. George’s, this event surrounds the ceremonial payment of the Annual Rent of one peppercorn for the continued use of the Old State House, Bermuda’s oldest building, in “free and common soccage” by the Master of Lodge St George #200, on the Roll of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, in all his ceremonial finery, inspects the band and troops of the Bermuda Regiment whilst the Master, Officers and Brethren of Lodge St George parade onto the square in full Masonic regalia. The ceremony is followed by a garden party hosted by His Worship the Mayor of St. George’s at nearby Somers Gardens.

Show off your skills at the 25th Annual Corporate Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, April 22nd.

Running from 9.30am until around 3pm at the North Village Community Club Field, this is a 6-a-side co-ed tournament. This tournament is open to non-BVA members and is intended to introduce new people to the sport of volleyball as well as provide groups / companies with the opportunity to participate in a community event together.

Sponsors have the option of sponsoring a team for the tournament and/or sponsoring a net. If a net is sponsored, then the company’s logo or sign (as provided by the company) will be displayed on one net (4 times) and included in all tournament information, announcement, etc.

Each team must consist of at least 2 men and 3 women (6 players in total). Each team is restricted to 2 top level competitive players on the court at one time.

The registration fee is $250 per team, net sponsorship is $100 per net and the cost for a team and net sponsor combo is $300.  Team registration and net sponsorship for this tournament must be completed online at www.bva.bm between March 15th and April 19th.

Spectators are also welcome and there is no cost.
