Bring the whole family to wander back in time and uncover the mysterious stories that shaped Bermuda’s rich maritime history at Pirates and Plunder on Wednesday, June 14th.
From 11am until 4pm in King’s Square and Ordnance Island, you can celebrate a day in St. George’s with non-stop entertainment,re-enactments, privateer navigators, cultural games, interactive performances and musical entertainment. This pirate-themed event will have something fun for everyone to see and experience.

The U.S. Consulate invite you to their Movie Night at the Bermuda National Library, featuring the Academy Award-Winning film Hidden Figures on Thursday, June 15th.
Starting at 5:30pm at The Bermuda National Library, the evening will begin with a book donation ceremony followed by the screening of the movie at 6pm.
Hidden Figures, tells the story of three African-American women working at NASA who made major – previously unacknowledged — contributions to the heroic launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn in 1962. Nominated for three Academy Awards, the film features Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.
During his visit to Bermuda, retired U.S. Naval Officer, Commander Jim Jackson, will donate four copies of the Young Readers’ edition of this inspiring true story to the library’s collection.
Admission is free. Due to limited seating, guests will be accommodated on a first-serve basis.

In celebration of the America’s Cup, the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is currently holding a nautical show entitled Point of Sail.
The show includes anything to do with sail boats and a wide selection of media has been entered, including paintings, ceramics and drift wood. This is a juried group Members’ Show and anyone with an inclination towards the the water will find it interesting.
The show runs until June 30th.
Admission is free. The Arts Centre is open daily from 10am to 5pm, and is wheelchair accessible.

Summer has officially descended on us, with the spectacular launch of America’s Cup, Tall Ships, and ‘regular’ summer activities, this is sure to be an exciting, and busy summer. Don’t forget to take a break, and spend some time with your fellow WOMBs (Women Who Own and Manage Businesses) at their next WOMB Connection session on Thursday, June 15th.
This session will run from 5:30pm until 7:30pm at Ten Cafe & Bar.
Admission is $20, which includes a drink and nibbles and $5 raffle prizes.

There are four new exhibits opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall on Friday, June 16th.
Showing in the Onions Gallery, If You Don’t Give a Sh*t, Why Should I, by Calix Smith, consists of acrylic works and installations.
In the Edinburgh Gallery, OmorO celebrates the beauty of the America’s Cup in Bermuda with his Art Show Sailing Forever.
In Studio A, The Ministry of Health, Seniors, Ageing and Disability in conjunction with the IBA and COAB presents an exhibition showcasing examples of accessibility successes and areas in need of improvement. As our built environment transforms, inclusive design considerations are paramount for all ages, sizes and abilities. The exhibit will include an interactive display and a noontime informative webinar.
In Studio B, Kyle E. Simmons will be exploring the narrative of Coming of Age told through photography and digital art.
The opening reception will be from 5-7pm on June 16th at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA), City Hall.
Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays. These exhibitions will run until Tuesday, July 4th.
Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and all are welcome.

The Alliance Française des Bermuda is delighted to invite you to the Wine and Cheese Reception of Sorgel and Nicky Gurret’s Joint Painting Exhibition on Friday, June 16th.
From 5:30pm until 7pm in the Rick Faries Gallery at Masterworks Museum, you can enjoy an evening of wine and cheese while viewing the works of these two artists.
Nicky Gurret is a local figure and Bermudian architect who loves design in its many facets and form, from painting to architecture. She is an avid photographer, floral artist, sand sculpture builder, beach artist and painter. Her abstract and very colourful paintings have been described as simply fascinating.
Pierre Sorgel is a French painter who started painting in the Netherlands in 1980. Since then, his paintings have been exhibited all across Europe and in the USA. Deeply inspired by the Bermudian tradition, his paintings are said to express a surreal creativity full of details that will take you for a long journey and colourful escape.
Admission is free and the exhibition will run until June 28th.

East meets West – Is this still a viable concept? What does it mean today? Are our worlds coming closer together or are we moving further apart? And, how has the world of yoga impacted or been impacted by the changing time? Join the Yoga Centre to discuss these tough questions and more with a view to open our minds and our hearts for the hope of a more peaceful and unified world community at a Satsang (Being in ‘Good’ Company): East Meets West on Friday, June 16th.
Starting from 7:30pm, this presentation and discussion will run until 10pm, at the Yoga Centre.
The evening will commence with a presentation given by Joanne ‘Sujatha” Wohlmuth – Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 yoga teacher, trainer and yoga therapist, YACEP – and most senior teacher and student of yoga and meditation in the Bermuda community. Refreshments will be served.
Admission is free although a small donation to offset food cost is accepted.

Bring the whole family out as for a celebration of Dads at the Father’s Day Edible Herbal Tour on Sunday, June 18th.
From 2pm until 3.30pm at Cooper’s Island (meet across from the playground), you can learn of the many edible herbal plants that grow wild throughout the island and their health benefits. Tasters from the various plants featured on the tour will be served afterwards.
The cost is $35 per person.

Join Tomorrow’s Voices and dietitian Arlene MacGuinness to discover the connection between autism and picky-eating and behavioural strategies to help cope with and address these eating issues at What’s on the Menu? Managing Picky Eaters on Wednesday, June 21st.
A recent scientific study found that children with autism are five times more like to have mealtime challenges such as extremely narrow food selections, ritualistic behaviours and meal-related tantrums.
The session will run from 6pm until 8pm at Tomorrow’s Voices on Happy Valley Road. There will be light drinks and refreshments served.
The cost is $25 and participants will receive Professional Development Certificates.

See Kymani Marley in concert, playing with his 12 piece band, Konfrontation, and singing a collection of his own hit songs as well as paying tribute to his father at the Marley Festival on Saturday, June 24th.
Gates open at 8pm at Snorkel Park, and festival goers can expect monster old school deejays and singing and dancing all night long. The festival will also feature locals acts Working Title Band, Conscious Band and reggae entertainer, Max. There will also be local cuisine available for purchase from Hammer Heads Bar & Grill.

In celebration of the America’s Cup, The Garden Club of Bermuda have been opening a Private Garden for Tours every Tuesday morning, with your last opportunity being the showcasing of Peppers on Tuesday, June 27th.
Peppers was built in 1967 on a bluff overlooking Pilchards Bay in Sandys Parish. Additional abutting properties were acquired during the late 1970s and early 1980s to extend the open space to the neighbouring government park. On the two acres there are quarried gardens, walled gardens, a slat house, a woodland walk with bee hives and an old lime storage pit. Due to extensive hurricane damage from four hurricanes, there is a continual replanting scheme to refurbish an altered landscape.
The garden will be open from 9.30am until noon, with two guided tours scheduled during that time, one at 10am and the other at 11am.
The cost is $25 per person and tickets are available from www.BDAtix.bm or at the entrance on the day. The tours are not suitable for children under 12.

Promising a family-friendly event that you do not want to miss, The Bermuda National Athletics Association will be hosting the 2nd edition of the Bermuda Invitational Permit Meet on Saturday, July 1st.
From 6.30pm until 9pm at National Sports Centre, this is a professional track and field event where athletes from around the world descend upon our island for a display of amazing talent in the sport of track and field.
Events contested will be the Men’s 100m, 110m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3000m steeplechase, Long Jump, and Shot Put, and the Women’s 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m, 800m para, and high jump.
The men’s 100m, 200m, 800m, 3000m steeplechase and long jump will feature Bermuda’s Elite athletes Tre Houston, Tyrone Smith, Shaquille Dill, Kyle Webb and Bruce DeGrilla, while the women’s high jump and 800m para will feature Sakari Famous and Bermuda’s Jessica Lewis.
There will also be local relay races featuring Bermuda primary and middle school students and food vendors will be on site.
Tickets are $17 for general admission seating, $37 for covered reserved seating, $77 for VIP tickets, and are available from www.BDAtix.bm. VIP tickets include reserved parking, meal, wine, meet and greet with athletes.

The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard invite you to the opening of their latest juried members’ show, Summer Open on Sunday, July 2nd.
This show is left open for the Artist to enter any subject matter and will feature a wide variety of media in all shapes and sizes, covering everything ‘Bermudian’.
The opening is from 5.30pm until 7pm on Sunday, July 2nd and the show runs until September 8th.

Promising not just a camp but an experience, Destiny Summer Camp will run from Monday, July 3rd to Friday, September 1st.
Early drop off is from 8am and from 8.30am until 5.45pm, your child will enjoy a safe and fun environment, where all staff are CPR certified and SCARS certified. This camp is based at the Stable Building on Reid Street and will provide a different theme each week.
The weekly cost for the camp is $120 with no extra fees. You can either decide which week works for you or join them for the whole summer.

Helping parents-to-be on their new journey, the Parenthood: Birth to 6 Months Course is having an Introduction Session on Sunday, July 23rd.
From 4.30pm until 6pm at a private residence in Warwick, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about the course, Calvina J. Simons, Newborn Care Specialist services, and hear from parents who participated in the course.

For children aged 8 to 12 years old, RISE Bermuda Summer Day Camp will be running weekly from Monday, July 17th until Friday, August 25th
Located at Willowbank Resort, this is a Christian day camp that explores fun and exciting ways to serve our island; the environment, animals and people.
The camp will run from 9am until 3.30pm, Monday to Friday the weeks of July 17th to 21st, July 24th to 28th, August 7th to 11th, August 14th to 18th, and August 21st to 25th. For Cup Match week, the camp will run from Monday to Wednesday, July 31st to August 2nd.
Early drop off and late pick up are also available at 8am and 5.30pm.
The cost is $250 per week and an extra $50 per week for early drop off/late pick up, or $150 plus $30 for early/after care for the shorter Cup Match Week.
