There’s less than a month to go before we can officially get back in the water – who’s excited?

Here is your weekly update with all the latest Bermuda events to be added to the network of calendars since last week’s post.  As always, be sure to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming Bermuda events, including those previously covered in earlier posts.

 

Fairmont Southampton invite you to join them for an evening of spectacular wines and dining with special guest Winemaster Randy Ullom of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate & Gardens at their Kendall-Jackson Gosling’s Wine Dinner at Waterlot Inn on Wednesday, April 25th.

Promising to be a truly extraordinary event, Randy is here for one night only to lead attendees through a tasting of his wine portfolio, while Chef John Lance has prepared a special tasting menu to complement each wine.

The evening begins at 7pm with a cocktail reception and canapés and a chance to chat with Randy before sitting down to a four-course dinner and wine pairing at 7.30pm.

The cost is $120 per person, inclusive of gratuities, and cancellation notice of 48 hours is required.

Marcus’ has teamed up with one of Bermuda’s top suppliers, Burrows Lightbourn, to bring you great selection of wines and liquors to taste and enjoy at their weekly Tuesday Night Flight, starting on Tuesday, April 24th.

Running from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, this Spring they’re featuring rums from all over the Caribbean.  Why not pair them with some tapas and a little Latin music and feel alright?

The cost of the Rum Tasting is $30, plus gratuities, and this event will continue every Tuesday until further notice.

Geared to those new to yoga and/or those wanting to revive their practice, The Yoga Centre presents a 12 Week Beginners Yoga Course, starting on Thursday, April 26th.

From 5.30pm, this all-time favorite provides step by step instruction into the practice of yoga. Students develop greater confidence in doing the poses and learn effective deep breathing techniques and deep relaxation skills to relieve stress and foster healthy sleep. An introduction into the practice of mindfulness to improve concentration and greater attention given to balancing strength and flexibility are immediate takeaways from this course.

The instructor is an E-RYT 500, certified yoga teacher and trainer as well as a certified yoga therapist who is equipped to work with all student abilities and challenges through adaptations, ensuring individual growth while putting safety first.

The cost is $260.

Come out and experience Bermudian culture at its best at Harbour Nights 2018!  This year, the Harbour Nights season will kick off on Thursday, April 26th.

With its rich 25 year history, Harbour Nights is the Island’s signature summer event, offering guests and locals alike the opportunity to come together in a truly unique way to enjoy all Bermuda has to offer.

The fun will be from 7pm until 10pm each week as Front Street, between Queen and Parliament Streets, is blocked off and transformed into a pedestrian-friendly village of local vendors and entertainers.

After the opening night on Thursday April 26th, Harbour Nights will continue every Wednesday until August 29th.

Promising a good course for beginners or for those wishing to become more firmly rooted in their practice, The Yoga Centre is offering Meditation Basics: An 8 Week Course starting on Thursday, April 26th

From 7.30pm, this is a good grounding course in meditation: how to practice; use the mantra; appreciate various approaches to meditation and mindfulness; what the benefits and obstacles are; and, what the goal of meditation is, and its application in daily life. In addition, a 30 minute practice is held each week to help solidify the practice component of this course.

The course will be taught by an E-RYT 500 Yoga Teacher, certified Teachers Trainer and Yoga Therapist using mindfulness in working with clients for health and well-being. The teacher is also trained in both Eastern and Western (Centering Prayer) meditation practices and philosophies, with a keen ability to break down these teachings into everyday practicalities.

The cost is $180.

In lieu of their Anniversary Month, Scribbles Art Shack have brought back Family Paint and Create Night on Friday, April 27th.

From 6pm at their premises on the 3rd floor of the Old Berkeley Cultural Centre, you can bring along your inspiration or paint something they have already done in-house.  This night is great for ages 5 to adults,  and you are free to bring along your own food and beverages as well.

Enjoy some free art activities in the Botanical Gardens as Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents Super Saturday on Saturday, April 28th.

From 10am until 2pm, families can participate in a variety of free Spring-themed creative art activities for children of all ages.  Salty Lime, formerly Homer’s Cafe, will also be open for lunch.

The Yoga Centre is offering a 12-Week Structure, Strength and Core Therapeutic Yoga Class starting on Saturday, April 28th.

From 11.30am, this course is designed to ensure a steady foundation, notable strength and stability with a view to assist students in becoming more aware and confident of their strengths and weaknesses. Individual adjustments to poses for renewed confidence and safety and an improvement in the look and feel of the poses are an intricate part of the course.

It is open to beginners, those looking to revive their practice and for teachers interested in learning new teaching skills.  This course is taught by an E-RYT 500 teacher, teachers trainer and certified yoga therapist.

The cost is $260.

T.N. Tatem Middle School is proud to present to the public Professor Eddie Ming’s Production, Rhythms From The Center Place: Part 2 on Saturday, April 28th.

Doors to the Assembly Hall open at 6.30pm for a 7pm showtime.  Performing on that evening are special guests Dellwood’s Academy Workshop Drummers, West Pembroke Primary School’s Drum Academy for Little People, and The Rhythm Lab’s Percussion Ensemble: Broken Clave.

All percussionists and drummers performing are students of Prof. Eddie Ming and attend the following schools in Bermuda: West Pembroke Primary School; Elliott Primary School; East End Primary School; Northlands Primary School; St. George’s Preparatory School; Heron Bay Primary School; Harrington Sound Primary School; Somersfield Academy; TN Tatum Middle School; and Dellwood Middle School.

Tickets are $50 for Patrons, $15 for general admission, and available from the school office. Part proceeds will be in aid of T.N. Tatem Middle School.

From 3pm in the church hall, this is a scavenger hunt with a difference, so you are invited to bring a team, grab your clues, and go, to find out if your team can collect the winning prize.  Light refreshments will be served.

BUEI Films and CATs Bermuda present a special screening of A Street Cat Named Bob on Thursday, May 3rd.

Based on the international best-selling book, this is the beautiful true story of a man and a cat, both getting second chances. James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict, had his life transformed when he met a stray ginger cat he named “Bob”. The film stars Luke Treadaway as James and features the real “Bob” playing himself.  The running time is 103 minutes.

The film begins at 7.30pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are required.  Please mention the film when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. From 7pm until 10pm at the Rhythm Lab, next to St. George’s Community Centre, this promises to be a unique event, offering good value and an opportunity to relax with family and friends.  A delicious vegan buffet dinner with herbal beverages, prepared in-house, and live music by Jazz Saxophonist, Dr. Keith Lee will also be included.  The dress code is Smart Casual.

Everyone in attendance will be asked to make a donation at the door – $30 for general admission and $50 for Patrons. The proceeds will go to the Drum School.  There is limited indoor seating so you are asked to RSVP with the number in your party so that they have an idea of how many to cater for.

From 7pm at Pier 6, this is the first event of the Pink Party series and the entertainment will be top notch, with an all-star line up of both local and international DJs alongside live performances from local talent such as Jesse Seymour.  With the Pink theme, their goal is to add a very upscale look and feel to the evening, that will leave the crowd asking for more. The event sponsors have also provided lots of giveaways.

Under the Distinguished Patronage of Larry and Jackie Hunt, enjoy a Night of Live Gospel and Jazz on Saturday, May 5th.

From 7pm in Sandys Middle School Amphitheatre, this show will feature world-renowned jazz musicians, along with some of Bermuda’s finest, including Jean Caze, Harvel-Nakundi, Godwin Louis, John Woolridge, Vancy Woolridge, The United Band and Praise Team, Keith Lee, The Band Wine Light, Maistro – Daz-Mactial, along with the wonderful MC, Mr. Gene Steede.

Bermuda National Library invite you to join educator and award-winning author, Dr. Angela Barry for Bermudian Literature Classes, starting on Tuesday, May 8th.

From 6pm, you can explore Bermuda’s landscape in a unique course in four separate modules. Each module consists of four sessions and features a key text.  You can choose to enroll in individual modules or the complete course.

Module 1 will be The World Discovers Bermuda with William Shakespeare and The Tempest, with classes on Tuesdays, May 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th.

The cost is $100.

Women’s Legal Network, a networking, education and philanthropy focused group for Bermuda’s female legal counsel, will host a Workshop on Emotional Intelligence on Saturday, May 12th.

From 8.30am at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, the presenter will be Dr. Crystal Clay, the founder of Olive Branch Consulting. Dr. Clay, who is Bermudian, holds a PhD in Organizational Leadership and is a certified Emotional Intelligence Coach, with both Bermudian and international experience with talent development.

This event is geared towards legal professionals but is open to other professions.

The cost is $50, which includes a continental breakfast and seminar materials. Space is limited and they anticipate that attendance spots will go quickly.  Payment must be made in advance to confirm your space.

It’s that time of year again, as The Bermuda Jump Rope Federation and Newstead Belmont Hills, Golf Resort & Spa, Bermuda are proud to bring you their annual Fun Charity Golf Tournament and Party on Saturday, May 12th.

Don’t know how to golf? No problem, as this day is all about fun and fundraising and promises to be a blast, with fun times to be had for both golfers and those of you who have never golfed before.

Join them at 3pm for a 4pm shotgun start to one of the craziest golf games you’ve ever played.  This is a Captain’s choice tournament with different boozy challenges on random holes, so come prepared to have fun, play some golf, and have a drink (or few).  Food, drinks and prizes are included.

T.N. Tatem Middle School will be hosting their First Annual Power of One Leadership Day on Friday, May 18th.

From 9am until noon, their theme is Discovering Our Greatness. This event gives all stakeholders an opportunity to visit the school as theyl showcase young scholars through public speaking, performance arts, academic rigorous tasks, innovative design, athletic displays, and much more.

The cost is $35 for a single person, $150 for a group of 6, or $1000 for sponsors.  They would like people to register by May 14th so that they know numbers for lunch.

See two amazing concerts topped off by a special free student concert at the 15th Annual Bermuda Guitar Festival from Friday to Sunday, May 25th to May 27th.

The Friday concert will take place at 7.30pm in the AWAC Concert Room at Bermuda School of Music, featuring Tooz Company Violin and Guitar Duo (LaTannia Ellerbe and Steve Crawford) playing classic rock arrangements, guitar duo Jerremiah Smith and Steve Crawford playing jazz standard favourites, and special guest soloist Conor Hay playing classical guitar.

At the Saturday concert from 7.30pm at St. Andrew’s Church, you can hear international jazz fingerstyle virtuoso Jake Riechbart in concert, playing jazz standards as well as pop/R&B classics.

At 1pm at St. Andrew’s Church on Sunday, May 28th, there will be a free Student Gala Concert, featuring Bermuda’s up and coming guitarists.
