Hope you’re all slapping on that sunscreen – summer has definitely returned to the Rock!
Here is your weekly update with all the latest Bermuda events to be added to the network of calendars since last week’s post. As always, be sure to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming Bermuda events, including those previously covered in earlier posts.
You are invited to come on out and sample some grilled goodness at the summer edition of Bonfires and BBQs on Thursday, June 7th.
From 7pm until 11pm on Front Street, between Burnaby and Parliament Streets, the fires will be buring and the dancing will be hot, so bring your sweetie, have a dance, and share some s’mores. Don’t miss Prestige, Island Teazza and Salsa dancing, all to get you ready for summer. You can also try your luck with a roll of the Crown & Anchor dice and take your pick of eats with the local vendors on hand.
This event is for attendees aged 18 and older and ID is required.
There is no cover charge.

Promising family fun for all, the Corporation of St. George invites you to come out and enjoy their Friday Evening Summer Series from Friday, June 8th.
From 6.30pm in King’s Square, events will range from Movie Nights, Games Nights, and Music and Line Dancing, as well as their annual Cup Match Extravaganza. There will be food vendors in hand with items for sale. The series will continue weekly until August 24th, with the exception of June 29th, July 6th, and August 3rd.
The series will kick off with Movie Night on June 8th, followed by Music / Line Dancing on June 15th, then Games Night in conjunction with Soul Food Promotion on June 22nd. In July, Movie Night will be on July 13th, Cup Match Extravaganza will be on July 20th and Games Night in conjunction with Soul Food Promotion will be on July 27th. Finally, August 10th will be Movie Night, Music / Line Dancing will be on August 17th, and August 24th will be Games Night in conjunction with Soul Food Promotion.
All events are free of charge to the public.

A day dedicated to well-being and to living as best as we can, Fairmont Southampton invite you to celebrate Global Wellness Day with them on Saturday, June 9th.
The purpose of the GWD is to awake to a daily challenge, the one of, day after day, asking ourselves and finding an answer to the question, How Can I Lead a Better and Healthier Life?
The day’s events will begin at 6.30am with a Wellness Walk on Horseshoe beach with FIT stations for those who want to participate. FIT winners will receive a Spa Pass. The hotel will offer a breakfast smoothie at Cabana and there will also be stationed jags on ice,(tofu-kale-pistachio smoothie, strawberry-chia seeds-wheat grass-low fat yogurt smoothie, pomegranate juice, grapefruit juice, water, healthy muffins (cereal and nuts), whole fruits(banana/apples/pears), and avocado toast (whole wheat) with organic boiled egg and alfalfa sprouts.
From noon until 1pm, you can take a walk along the Railway Trail to the Lighthouse. This involves some uneven pathways and hills, and you will get to do your good deed by collecting trash on the way. The hotel will be serving lunch at the 10th Tee at Turtle Hill Golf Course. The small buffet will include the Wickets Bermy Bowl (bulgur wheat, avocado, carrots, organic baby kale, mango, lemon olive oil), Almond Crusted Salmon Fillet (with broccoli rabe, lemon wedges), Shitake Sliders on Gluten Free Buns, and herbal water.
From 7.30pm until 8.30pm, you can enjoy Sunset Yoga on the Great Sound lawn as you watch the sun go down on your day of wellness
The hotel will also be offering a sleep-inducing smoothie, house made granola bars, turkey breast finger sandwiches in whole grain toast, chamomile tea, almonds, and herbal water.
There is no charge but capacity is limited.

For one night only, the Bermuda Squash Rackets Association (BRSA) are hosting a World Class Squash Exhibition on Saturday, June 9th.
From 5pm, this event will feature some of the World’s best squash players, including the top two Bermuda plays, Noah Browne (Bermuda #1) and Micah Franklin (Bermuda #2). Seats are limited.
Tickets are $65 for general admission and $150 for VIP, which includes reserved seating, complimentary food and bar.

You and your family and friends are cordially invited to The Rhythm Lab’s Vegan Jazz Gathering on Saturday, June 9th.
From 7pm until 10pm at the Rhythm Lab, next to St. George’s Community Centre, this promises to be a unique event and offering good value. A delightful and healthy vegan buffet dinner with herbal beverages, prepared in-house, and live music by Jazz Saxophonist, Dr. Keith Lee will also be included. The dress code is Smart Casual.
Everyone in attendance will be asked to make a donation at the door – $30 for general admission and $50 for Patrons. The proceeds will go to the Drum School. There is limited indoor seating so you are asked to call to RSVP with the number in your party so that they have an idea of how many to cater for.

Bermuda Folk Club are hosting their next Open Mic Night on Saturday, June 9th.
From around 8pm at Robin Hood Pub and Restaurant, all our local musicians, and those visiting the island, are invited to come sing/play and bring all their friends. Surprise birthday party? You can also hold that with them at Robin Hood.

A fundraising event in support of a team of students and adults as they travel to Bangalore India to build houses for the needy, Bermuda Overseas Missions present Bollywood Bingo on Sunday, June 10th.
From 12.30pm at Christ Church Warwick, you are asked to come and support this fantastic event with an afternoon of great entertainment, prizes, food and fun for the entire family.
An Indian lunch will be provided at the cost of $20 and $10 for children under 14. Bingo cards are $5 each.

Designed to prep you for their regular classes, The Yoga Centre present a six-week Beginner’s Yoga course, starting on Tuesday, June 12th.
From 5.30pm, this includes warm-ups and postures, breathing practices and an extended deep relaxation. It promises to be a perfect start on your personal resolve for a healthy body, a peaceful mind and a useful life.

BUEI Films and L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be hosting a screening of Ce Qui Nous Lie (Back to Burgundy) on Tuesday, June 12th.
Screening in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium at 8pm, this French comedy/drama with English subtitles is from director Cédric Klapisch, starring Pio Marmaï, Ana Girardot and François Civil. The running time is 1 hour 53 minutes.
Three siblings reunite at their home in picturesque Burgundy to save the family vineyard in this tender tale of a new generation finding its own unique blend from acclaimed director Cédric Klapisch (L’Auberge Espagnole). Jean, the black sheep of the family, unexpectedly returns home from a decade abroad to reconnect with his hospitalized father. He’s welcomed by his strong-willed sister, Juliette, who took over the reins of the vineyard after their father fell ill, and Jeremie, the youngest of the three who has recently married into one of the region’s more prestigious wine families. Their father passes shortly after Jean’s return, leaving them with the estate and a looming inheritance tax of half a million dollars…

The Bermuda Squash Rackets Association are hosting a Wine Tasting at the BSRA on Wednesday, June 13th.
From 6pm, they invite you to come and join them as they spring into summer with a selection of wines selected by Niel from Pitt & Company. The ticket price includes the full wine tasting plus small finger foods.
Tickets are $30 or $25 for members of the BSRA.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda presents its How Much Would You Pay to See Me…? Fundraiser on Wednesday, June 13th.
Local celebrities and community members have volunteered to raise funds for the charity by doing outrageous dares live on stage at that evening’s Bermuda Heroes Weekend-themed Harbour Night. This will be from 7.30pm at the flagpole stage and there are 14 dares in total.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents their latest exhibit, Triple D: Dyan, Detzer, and DeWhittaker, opening to the public on Friday, June 15th.
Boasting 3 artists, 3 distinct styles and 1 fantastic show, this is the coming together of three great artists, well-known to the Bermuda scene for several years. The artwork is vibrant and exciting, different and passionate. All are encouraged to view these three different artistic representations.
The official opening reception will be in the Rick Faries Gallery from 5.30pm until 7pm on June 15th and the exhibit will run until July 4th.
Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Masterworks is closed on public holidays. General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.

Promising an epic event that you won’t want to miss, the Family Centre’s Lip Sync Battle is back on Friday, June 22nd.
Join a panel of star judges and help decide Bermuda’s next Lip Sync Champion. Six teams will compete along with special guests, such as the Queen of Bermuda.
The evening begins with a complimentary drinks reception at 6.30pm at the Hamilton Princess with the show starting at 7pm. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the show.

Proving that reading is fun, the Storybook Parade: Tutus & Superheroes II will be on Saturday, June 23rd.
From 10am at the Youth Library, you can come out dressed as your favorite storybook character, bring the book their character is from, and march in the parade. The first 50 to register will receive a tutu/cape/mask and a party bag. There will be prizes for the best costumes as well as refreshments for participants. The Gombeys will also be in attendance and school groups, mascots and families are invited to join the fun.
This is the kickoff to their Summer Reading Program, Libraries Rock, running from July 3rd to August 18th.
The cost of registration is $5.

Boasting a safe, family-friendly atmosphere, full of fun, games, community building, music, art, creativity and a much-needed break from daily life, the Chewstick Foundation invite you to join them at their 2018 Summer Retreat on Paget Island from Friday to Sunday, June 29th to July 1st.
This will be held on Paget Island, departing from St. George’s at 6.30pm on Friday, June 29th, returning at around 3pm on Sunday, July 1st.

Scribbles Art Shack will be encouraging the growth and development of creative free thinking individuals at their Let’s Get Artsy Summer Camp, running weekly for ten weeks, starting Monday, July 2nd.
With art and activities aimed at school-aged children from 5 to 13 years old, little artists will work on a wide range of art areas from drawing/painting, textiles, collaging and mixed media for a balanced creative experience.
Priding themselves in providing a quality art based programs aimed at nurturing the whole child, through the arts they promote self discovery, the development of self esteem, confidence and empowerment. They offer a safe and unique full-day camp with fun and artsy counsellors aiding the children through the process.
The camp includes one paid outing, edible art creations, local attractions, daily snacks and water available, all supplies, one sketchbook, and one Summer Camp T-Shirt (worn on outing days). They want all of their lil artists to freely enjoy taking part in our local artist’s community later on.
The program operates from 8.15am until 5.15pm, at their central location of The Berkeley Cultural Centre.

Please note there is a $1 processing fee attached to the bookings. Late collections will be subject to a $5 late fee every 5 minutes after the 5.15pm collection time.
