A week today – I am already feeling sleepy in advance of the inevitable food coma. Here’s the latest round up of what’s coming up in Bermuda:
Bermuda National Gallery invite you to the latest exhibition at BNG East in St. George’s. A Sense of Place features work by local artists William Collieson, Michael Walsh, Christina Hutchings and Peter Lapsley. Admission is free and the show will run until March 31st. The Bermuda National Library is hosting a special Book and DVD Sale on behalf of the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs on Wednesday, December 18th. From 6pm until 8pm, DVDs from the Bermuda Folklife Documentary Series will be on sale for $20 and several will also be screened during the sale. Local books, and light refreshments and hot drinks will also be available.
Students, are you interested in local opportunities with one of the Big Four? If so, you won’t want to miss the PwC Student Networking Reception on Friday, December 20th at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club. From 5.30pm until 7.30pm, you can gain an insight into the firm, learn about the Pricewaterhouse Coopers HeadStart programme and all the career options available to you from PwC. Taste 141 invite you to a Rockin’ Friday Night with live music from Outta Bounds at their last event before the New Year on Friday, December 20th. The band will be performing from 6.30pm until 9.30pm and there is no cover charge. For more information, or reservations, call 292-0777.
A few updates from Grotto Bay as they have a few regular events to add to the calendar. Firstly, Grotto Bay hosts its famous Sunday Brunch, every week from noon until 3pm. There is sure to be something to please everyone’s palate, from fresh baked waffles, assorted cheeses, delicious and creative salads, sushi, traditional dishes such as codfish and potatoes, a carving station with prime rib, roast turkey and honey ham, pasta dishes and decadent desserts. The cost is $38 per person, plus 17% grats. Every Friday night from 6.30pm until 9pm, you can enjoy live entertainment and delicious food at Grotto Bay’s International Buffet, created by their team of chefs from around the world. Offerings will include fresh sushi, a hot station including comfort foods such as Boursin and Black Truffle Mac and Cheese, an open Flame section featuring special seafood and select meats such as grilled pork and lamb sausages and a decadent dessert station. The cost is $47.95 per person, plus 17% grats. In addition, there is also their popular Winter Lunch Buffet, served daily from noon until 2pm at a cost of $15.95. From 10.30am until 3pm, Windows on the Sound are offering a Christmas Day Traditional Brunch on Wednesday, December 25th. The cost is $59, plus 17% gratuities. Christmas Dinner at The Waterlot Inn will be served from 6pm until 10pm on Wednesday, December 25th. The cost is $125, plus 17% gratuities. Why veg out on Boxing Day when you can blow off those cobwebs at sea instead? The Ubervida are hosting the dance party cruise, Naughty or Nice Boxing Day Bonanza, on Thursday, December 26th. The boat will depart #1 Dock on Front Street at 1pm, returning at 5pm. No need to worry if the bar will have your favourites stocked as this is a BYOB party. Tickets are $40 and available from www.pTix.bm.
Wish your loved ones a “Bonne Année” at midnight as you enjoy a continental-style celebration at Paris in Light, Beau Rivage’s New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner on Tuesday, December 31st. Swing into 2014 New Orleans’ style with the Fairmont Hamilton Princess’ New Year’s Eve Jazz package on Tuesday, December 31st. From 7pm, the New Year’s Eve Jazz party will include live music from the Tony Bari Jazz Band and soloist Sheila Smith, a dinner buffet, cash bar, party favours, and a sparkling toast and balloon drop at midnight. And when the party’s over at 1am, you can take the elevator home. Rates begin at $500 for two people, excluding taxes, grats and resort levy, and additional nights are available at $279 per night. The package includes overnight accommodations for two in a Fairmont Room on New Year’s Eve with two tickets to the NYE Jazz Party. Fairmont Southampton’s Ocean Club invite you to bring in 2014 with the three Ds – dinner, dancing and Dave Bootle! Now based in Key West, Dave will be returning to Bermuda with his usual high-energy performance of classic rock tunes, top 40 hits and old favourites for one night only at Ocean Club’s NYE Dinner and Dave Bootle Show on Tuesday, December 31st. The evening begins at 7.30pm with a welcome Bootle Bomb cocktail upon arrival, followed by a four-course dinner. The show itself will begin at 10pm and you can enjoy music from Dave Bootle and DJ Holmes until 1am. Seating is limited with group-style tables of 10. There will also be limited Show Only tickets from 10pm. Seating for these will be in the lounge or standing room on high cocktail tables. Ticket prices are $219 for the Dinner and Show package, which includes the welcome cocktail, dinner, show and grats, and $99 for the show only. Welcome 2014 in the East End as the Corporation of St. George Activities Committee presents New Year’s Eve in St. George’s on Tuesday, December 31st. From 9pm until 1am in King’s Square, you can enjoy fireworks, live entertainment, music, food and much more. This event is free and open to the public.
Get your dancing shoes ready to usher in the New Year with a a night of high-energy live music as the Fairmont Southampton and 441 Productions present the New Year’s Eve Dance Party on Tuesday, December 31st. This will be in the Poinciana Ballroom with doors opening at 9pm and showtime at 10pm. Local entertainers, Working Title, provide all your favourite hits, while special guests from Toronto, The Disco Rebels, take you through the night with funk, disco, and rock classics until 2am. Tables in the Poinciana Ballroom are first come/first served unless you purchase a table of 12, which will be reserved in the purchaser’s name. Show tickets are $79 per person and the first 20 tables of 12 booked will only pay for 10 show tickets. There are also limited dinner and show tickets available. The cost per person for this is $149 for Jasmine Lounge, $162 for Windows on the Sound, and $173 for Newport, a Gastropub. These prices include dinner, the show and grats. Party Positive is hosting a New Year’s Eve Warehouse Party on Tuesday, December 31st. The location is at 81 Reid Street and from 11pm until 5am, entertainment will be courtesy of DJ Siid James, DJ Denis Danger Public, DJ Kade, and Special Guests. BYOB, or reserve a bottle in advance, and they will provide ice and plastic cups. There will also be chasers and food for sale. Tickets are $40 and available from www.pTix.bm.
A spoke-tacular event for a good cause, Cycle 4 Change will be on Sunday, January 5th, with two different ways to get involved. Are you a member of the Bermuda Bicycle Association? Then you are eligible to participate in the Elite Cycle Race. This will start at 9.30am in Dockyard and will go ahead rain, blow or shine. The Family Cycle Ride will start at 10am at the Arboretum and anyone can participate. The rain date for this is January 11th. Both will finish at Ferry Reach and each cyclist that raises at least $100 will be entered into a draw for prizes. There is also a prize for top three fundraising teams. Family Centre is a registered charity that works hard to strengthen families and social systems to create a healthier Bermuda for our children. Looking for a little sugar rush? Mother’s Treats Gourmet Cupcakes will be at the HSBC Market at Compass Point on Bermudiana Road today between 11am and 2pm and outside Bermuda National Library on Friday, December 20th between 4pm and 9pm. Gourmet cupcakes and sugar cookies will be on sale.
