I hope you have all adjusted to the time change better than I have!  I’m not exactly sure how a one-hour change can mess up my body clock by 3 or 4 hours but I guess I have always been a bit special.  Anyway, here’s what you are all here for – the latest news on Bermuda events:

 

1105 Panel Discussion with Dany Pen and Ami Zanders

Can artwork encourage discussions on social issues? Find out at a Panel Discussion on this very topic with Biennial artists Dany Pen and Ami Zanders at Bermuda National Gallery on Wednesday, November 5th.

The session will run from 12.30pm until 1.30pm with Suzanne Mayall serving as moderator.

Admission is free, although donations are encouraged.

1105 Chefs Table at the Reefs

The Reefs invites you to join them for another delectable 7-course dinner on Wednesday, November 5th.

Beginning at 6pm, their signature Chef’s Table events offer up course after course of perfectly paired palate pleasers.

The cost is $110 per person and limited spots are available.

1108 Yoga

Starting Saturday, November 8th at 3pm, the Yoga Centre on Victoria Street are offering a two-part, 12 -week, Beginners I Yoga Course for those who are new to yoga or with limited experience and practice.

This course is designed to provide the basic principles of yoga beneficial for safe and renewed practice, introduce alternate options for various body types, and develop awareness and build confidence in the practice of yoga specific to individual student needs. The course prepares students for Beginners 2 and walk-in multilevel classes.

The cost is $260 for a 12-week session.

Exclusive Live in Jasmine Lounge

Looking for some live entertainment on the weekends?

Then you’re in luck as Exclusive will be performing live in the Jasmine Lounge on Saturday and Sunday nights from 9pm until midnight.

Tony Bari, pianist, will join Earl Leader on drums and Dennis Francis on bass every week until January 4th, excluding November 22nd, 29th and 30th. In addition to these weekend gigs, they will also be performing nightly from Monday, December 29th until Sunday, January 4th, including New Year’s Eve.

There is no cover charge.

1109 Remembrance Sunday in St Georges

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, there will be a special Remembrance Sunday in St. George’s on Sunday, November 9th

Following the Laying of Wreaths at the Cenotaph in King’s Square at 10.30am, a Remembrance service will be held in St Peter’s. Participating will be the Governor, the Premier, the Mayor, the US Consul, other dignitaries and veterans.

1110 Troubled Waters

Join BUEI and the The Bermuda Audubon Society for an evening with world-renowned bird artist, author and naturalist, Bruce Pearson at Troubled Waters: Trailing the albatross and cahow, an artist’s journey on Monday, November 10th.

Bruce first voyaged to the Southern Ocean over 35 years ago to study albatrosses and other seabirds, working in a creative partnership with BirdLife International. Hear about his recent return to the Southern Ocean, the aim of the Troubled Waters partnership and how Bruce’s visit to Bermuda to engage with the cahow and its conservation story is an exciting opportunity to develop new aspects of the Troubled Waters project.

The lecture will start at 7.30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium and Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event. Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar and the full menu will be available from 6pm – please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. 1110 Veterans in Action

Fans of Jamaican dancehall reggae will be delighted to see the line-up for Veterans in Action’s annual show at the BAA Gymnasium on Monday, November 10th.

For the first time in Bermuda, Johnnny Osbourne will be singing hits like Buddy Bie Buddy Bie, No Ice Cream Love, Truth & Rights, plus many more, while Everton Hardweare, better known by his stage name Singing Melody, will also be performing his hits live, including Want You Back, Shower Me With Your Love, Say What, plus many more.

Gates open at 9pm and the show will also feature the best in local artists, with music by King Jyrus, Concious J, Culture Shock Radio with 3 The Hard Way, hosted by B_Roc from Irie 98.3 FM.

1114 BHI START Programme

The Bermuda Hospitality Institute is excited to announce applications are now being accepted for the 2015 START Program, an internationally recognized Hospitality Industry Certification program for high school students aged 16 to 18.

Running from December 2014 to April 2015, this free program provides a quality career based educational experience that prepares high school students for the vast opportunities that await them in the hospitality industry.

A maximum of 12 students will be accepted into the program, which requires a commitment after school and on weekends. Upon successful completion participants are guaranteed full-time summer employment within the Island’s hospitality industry, for as long as they are in high school or college.

The deadline for applications is Friday, November 14th.

1119 14th Annual International Prophetic Encounter

The Restoration Fellowship will host its 14th Annual International Prophetic Encounter from Wednesday, November 19th until Sunday, November 23rd.

This year’s theme is The Power of Prophetic Pressure, 1 Timothy 1:18-19, with several dynamic speakers in attendance.

Conference sessions will be held at 7.30pm each night at the Fairmont Southampton’s Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre, with other items on the schedule to include the Jericho Hour Prayer on Saturday, November 22nd at 7am.

There are two new exhibits opening on Friday, November 21st at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall.

Elements of Paradise will showcase minature and Islamic paintings by artist Melanie Francis after travels and studies in India and Turkey, using handmade paper, traditional techniques, silver and gold leaf and precious gems. For more information on the artist, visit www.MelanieFrancis.com.

Frameworks presents Custom Made, a first time, collaborative, fundraising art show between artist and framer. A stunning collection of art has been submitted by 42 artists and Frameworks has designed and custom framed their pieces. All of the pieces will be for sale with the proceeds of sales going to support the artist, Bermuda Society of Arts, Masterworks, Bermuda National Gallery and Bermuda Art Centre Dockyard so this is an opportunity to shop while supporting our local art community.

Opening night will be at BSoA on Friday, November 21st from 5pm until 7pm with the usual wine, beer and soda with cheese and crackers provided.

These shows will run for 3 weeks, closing on Tuesday, December 9th at 4pm.

1121 Friday Night Fights

Bermuda’s own world champion, Teresa Perozzi will be facing off against Kali Reis for the IBA Middleweight Championship on Friday, November 21st.

Johnny Lima Construction presents Friday Night Fights in the Poinciana Ballroom at the Fairmont Southampton. Doors open at 7pm and the first bout begins at 8pm.

The event will also feature Bermuda Pro Debut Fights, including Nikki Bascome vs Joe Marchand Tipping and Chioke Tucker vs Martello Jones.

General tickets are $65 and ringside tickets in the first 4 rows are $100.

1129 Bermuda Chamber Choir We Will Remember

Bring your poppy and some tissues as the Bermuda Chamber Choir presents We Will Remember, a moving and thrilling tribute marking the 100th Anniversary of the First World War, on Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th.

This will take place at St. Paul’s Church in Paget at 7.30pm on the Satuday and 4pm on the Sunday.

Against a backdrop of projected photos of WWI heroes, the choir will sing Edward Elgar’s We Will Remember Them, a simple yet moving setting of Binyon’s poem For the Fallen, as well as the classic and heartfelt hymn I Vow to Thee My Country by Gustav Holst. Welsh Contemporary composer Karl Jenkin’s The Armed Man will also feature.

The work premiered at Royal Albert Hall, London in 2000 and was described by The Times as a work “by turns visceral and ethereal… a firebomb of orchestral and human voices”.

Tickets are $55 for sponsors, $35 for adults, $20 for students and available from www.pTix.bm or the Bermuda Bookstore on Queen Street.

 

1206 40th Anniversary Winter Wonderland

Enter a magical night of lights at Bermuda College’s 40th Anniversary Winter Wonderland on Saturday, December 6th.

From 5pm until 10pm at Bermuda College Campus, you can enjoy local entertainment and the largest electric slide, a Vendor Village, Santa’s Wonderland, fun castles, face painting, games, a magical train ride, a movie, pictures with Santa, raffle draws and so much more, hosted by Bermuda’s own Nadanja Bailey.

Admission is free.
