Hope you all had a great celebration and that 2015 has been treating you well so far! This is the first working week of 2015 for most of us but please remember to thank our friends in the hospitality industry who work so hard while the rest of us are letting our hair down.
Anyway, it’s a brand new year so here are some of the latest Bermuda events for 2015 for your consideration:
Learn how to write fiction, anecdotes, poetry and much more at a Creative Writing Course from Wednesday, January 7th.
This will take place in the top floor office at Daylesford Theatre from 7pm until 9pm. Whether you want to sharpen up a piece for publication, or simply enjoy writing for pleasure, you will learn techniques that will make your writing the very best it can be.
This is an ongoing course, and the fee is $95 per six weeks.

The breath is our constant companion, yet seldom do we realize how powerful a tool it is for healing the body and calming the mind. Control of the breath leads to optimal health and vitality, as well as mental balance and clarity. Learning how to breathe properly is one of the keys to a happy, healthy and successful life.
The Power of Breath, a 6-week course starting at the Yoga Centre on Friday, January 9th, will include Theory and Techniques, Breath and Health, Healing Visualization, Overcoming Negative Emotions and Dealing with Stress. The class will run from 12.10pm until 1.10pm.
The cost is $108 for a 6-week session.

There are three new exhibits opening on Friday, January 9th at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall.
The Onions Gallery will be exhibiting the 2015 BSoA Members Photography Show, a collection of imagery selected by a jury panel.
The Edinburgh Gallery will be showcasing Vortex of Colour by Karl Sternath, held over by popular demand.
Unexplained by Deondre Cumberbatch, a series of mixed media work, will be on show at Studio A.
Opening night will be BSoA on Friday, January 9th from 5pm until 7pm with the usual wine, beer and soda with cheese and crackers provided.
These shows will run for 3 weeks, closing on Wednesday, January 28th at 4pm. Admission is free.

Looking for some live entertainment on the weekends?
Then you’re in luck as Exclusive will be performing live in the Jasmine Lounge on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm until midnight.
Tony Bari, pianist, will join Earl Leader on drums and Dennis Francis on bass every weekend until Saturday, February 28th.
There is no cover charge.

Hall of Life Publishing has announced the launch of the illustrated children’s book The Little Cottage by Liana Hall and illustrated by Alicia Wanklyn.
The launch will take place at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art on Saturday, January 10th. The Little Cottage is a picture book primarily aimed at children, but with art that will enthral adults. It is intended to be a lasting piece of cultural art for Bermuda; a book that will remain treasured by children as they grow into adulthood. The Little Cottage also contains historical and cultural facts about the island that will educate local and international children alike.
Signing and sales will begin at noon and there will be a reading by the author at 2pm followed by a few short presentations. There will be books, postcards and prints on sale. Proceeds will benefit Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Friends of Hospice and The Chewstick Foundation.
This event is free to attend.

Want to burn off a little of that post-holiday flab? The 38th Annual Fairmont to Fairmont Road Race will take place on Sunday, January 11th.
The Race and the Relay Teams will both begin at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess at 9am, 8.30am for walkers and the 3K Junior Race, and will end at the Fairmont Southampton, a route of 7.2 miles. Light refreshments will be available at the finish.
Registration is available until 6pm on Friday, January 3rd. There are a variety of prizes in different categories and age groups as well as several prize draws, including two JetBlue airline tickets and a four night stay at The Fairmont Mayakoba in Mexico.
The fee varies from $0 to $60, depending on the age and race category, and $8 of each race fee will be donated to the The Bermuda Hospital Charitable Trust. This amount will be matched by Fairmont.

Starting Thursday, January 15th at 5.30pm, The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street are offering a two-part, 12 -week, Beginners I Yoga Course for those who are new to yoga or with limited experience and practice.
This course is designed to provide the basic principles of yoga beneficial for safe and renewed practice, introduce alternate options for various body types, and develop awareness and build confidence in the practice of yoga specific to individual student needs. The course prepares students for Beginners 2 and walk-in multilevel classes.
The cost is $260 for a 12-week session.

Most of us are tightening our belts after all that seasonal spending so, luckily for us, Bermuda Tourism are running an initiative to let us dine at many local restaurants for a reduced cost!
Over 42 of Bermuda’s top restaurants are participating in the 4th Annual Bermuda Restaurant Weeks from Thursday, January 15th until Thursday, February 5th.
The chefs will be showcasing their talents with special menus of three-course selections, inviting you to sample Bermuda-inspired fare and tantalizing international cuisine during this annual food-lovers extravaganza.
Prices for three-course prix fixe dinners fall into three tiers at $29, $39 or $49 per person (excluding beverages and grats) depending on the participating restaurant. Wine pairings will also be offered.

Get your skates on for the Bermuda Roller Derby Recruitment Day on Sunday, January 18th.
From 2.30pm until 4.30pm at Pembroke Community Club, at the top of Admirality House, you will have the opportunity to find out exactly what roller derby is.
All women over 18 are welcome, as are non-skaters, since male and female referees are needed too.

The Wesley Methodist Car Boot Sale will be from 9am until 1pm at the Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 31st.

You are invited to grab your best walking shoes and your favourite canine for the Bermuda SPCA’s 18th Annual Paws to the Park Dog Charity Walk on Sunday, March 1st.
Starting at 2pm, you can join the Bermuda SPCA and a hundred waggly tails for this sponsored 1 or 3 mile walk from St. Paul’s Church Field, on the corner of Middle Road and Valley Road.
The walk will be followed by a doggie-themed festival featuring exciting attractions and free giveaways for you and your pooch, including the Wetnose Photo Booth, Doggie Fun zones and picnic areas, Dog Grooming, and lots of freebies, goody bags and much more. This event is open to all dog owners or simply people who love animals and wish to enjoy a fun day out, while supporting the lifesaving work of the SPCA.

Who called a special meeting before Jesus had The Last Supper? Now for the first time, based on a broad-based discussion with local church leaders, and after reading extensively, playwright Dale Butler brings his third play, The Second Last Supper, to the stage after his great success with the acclaimed We are Climbin’ Jacob’s Ladder and Hubert Smith.
The show will run from Thursday, March 26th until Saturday, March 28th at St. Paul A.M.E. Centennial Hall, with showtime at 7pm sharp each night.
An all star cast and live band involve you with an earth shattering opening and triumphant ending that reveals the strengths and weaknesses of a movement that was almost on its knees hours before the Crucifixion.
Tickets are $25, or $50 for Patrons, and available from St. Paul A.M.E. Church office or at the door.
