Welcome to the last post of August – didn’t that go by in a flash?! Here is the latest update on island events and don’t forget, as always, to check out the Quick Recap section at the end for a full list:
Gina Spence Productions and Gibbons Company presents their Each One Reach One Back-to-School Campaign with the nomination deadline on Thursday, August 27th.
To nominate your child for the clothing drive, visit the Children’s Department of Gibbons Company and a GSP volunteer will contact you if your application has been successful. Nomination forms must be completed by a parent or guardian either in-store or online at www.gspic.org.
Volunteers will then distribute clothing to successful nominees at the old Sound Stage location in the upper level of the Washington Mall between 11am and 6pm on Saturday, August 29th.
Clean and well-kept school clothing can be donated at the drop-off box available at Gibbons Company Children’s Department. Donors will receive a 20% discount on selected school clothing.

There are two opportunities to see some of Bermuda’s most talented dancers in action at the DanceSations’ Annual Summer Dance Recital on Saturday, August 29th.
There will be two shows, at 2pm and 7pm, at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall. Both shows will be jam-packed with exciting dances and energy. Dancers of all ages will grace the stage, with dance genres such as ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop.
Tickets are $28 and available from www.BDAtix.bm. Children are welcome but everyone must have a ticket.

Bring your own blanket, chairs and refreshments and enjoy a delightful afternoon of music in the beautiful setting of Victoria Park at the Give Back Concert from 4pm on Sunday, August 30th.
Presented by the Alumni of the Band and Corps of Drums of the Bermuda Regiment, this concert is part of the Bermuda Regiment 50th Anniversary celebrations and will feature the specially assembled Bermuda Regiment Alumni Band, The Blues Beat Band and the wonderful vocal talents of Chauncey Durham, Sr.
The concert is open to the public and attendees are kindly encouraged to donate an amount of their choosing to the Bermuda Regiment Charitable Trust via one of the collection buckets on the day.
The Regiment is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year and more information can be found by following the hashtag #BR50.

Enjoy nature’s laser light show aboard the Ana Luna, as they invite you to join them for a Glow Worms Safari on Monday, August 31st and Tuesday, September 1st.
This exotic evening on the seas will begin when the boat departs from the dock at Grotto Bay at 6.30pm. After enjoying the sunset, you can witness the glow-in-the-dark mating ritual of these unusual creatures, performed two and three days after the full moon during the warmer months. Following the worm display, you will enjoy moonrise with a complimentary champagne toast, before returning to the dock by 9.30pm.
The cost is $69 per person, including a cash bar, light snack, hibiscus tea and fresh water, along with the toast, all included.

During the month of September, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Bermuda (OCAB) are asking spas to encourage their clients to wear teal toes and nails for their Teal Toes for the Month of September Campaign.
TEAL represents Take Early Action & LIVE and you are encouraged to make it a unique work of art. They would like you to take pictures of your amazing mani or pedi and tweet it, post it to Facebook, Instagram it or send your photos to them in support of ovarian cancer awareness.
Not only is this an amazing lifesaving campaign but salons will also be offering a discount on pedicures and/or manicures that use teal polish, or making a donation to OCAB for each teal pedicure done in their salon so that they can continue their mission to educate, support and save lives.

Learn how to effectively relax your body and mind at the free Relaxation Workshop on Wednesday, September 2nd.
From 6pm until 7.30pm in Room 404 of the International Centre on Bermudiana Road, you will learn guided body relaxation, uplifting visualization, deep peace breathing, and soothing sound meditation
Admission is free and there will also be free CDs with relaxation music available.

America has the Pillsbury Bake-Off, the United Kingdom has the Great British Bake-Off, and now Bermuda has the ADHT/Green Lite Café Back to School Bake-Off on Saturday, September 5th.
From 5pm until 8pm at Landfall Restaurant, you are invited to bring the family, and come and support your favourite baker. Local bakers can have fun displaying their baked goods, while competing for prizes and bragging rights. This great family event will also include food sampling, a timed cake decorating competition, face painting and a silent auction.
Bakers can enter the contest as an Adult, Youth or Family and can enter a maximum of three categories, choosing between Cup Cakes, Quick Breads, Cookies, Vegan and Healthy Choice. The entry fee for Adults/Families is $15 for one category, $20 for two categories and $25 for three categories, and $5 for Youths.
For the public, the cost of admission is $20 for adults and $10 children, which includes a snack pack and drink.

Limitless Faith Promotions presents The Ark 2, a Gospel Cruise gathered together aboard the MV Bermuda Longtail to praise one God on Saturday, September 5th.
The boat will depart Albuoy’s Point at 7pm and will feature Last Call, For God’s Purpose, and the Joshua Generation, with music by DJ Cover Boy.

Cyclone International presents DJ Explosion: The Final Edition on Sunday, September 6th.
This pre-Labor Day Party will take place at the Police Recreation Club Hall from 9pm and will feature Rusty G (HOTT 107.5), Jugglin Jason (Power 95) and Bermuda’s favourite soca DJ, D’General.

Quiet your mind and find inner peace and tranquillity at the free Meditation Workshop on Wednesday, September 9th.
From 6pm until 7.30pm in Room 404 of the International Centre on Bermudiana Road, you will learn how yoga sound meditation helps to deeply relax the mind and control negative emotions. September has been designated Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and as part of this there will be a Break the Silence 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 27th.
The start time is 8.30am and the Race Route will start at Clearwater Beach (next to the parking area on Coopers Island Road), north to Southside Road (SSR), left on SSR, west to the roundabout opposite the former White’s Supermarket Building, returning back along the same route, staying to the left to the finish line across from Clearwater Beach.
Ovarian Cancer is a silent killer of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends. The OCAB (Ovarian Cancer Awareness Bermuda) is committed to bringing awareness about this deadly disease to all Bermudians, and to assist and support those battling the disease however they can. This battle is not only for women and men are also encouraged to show their support by participating.
The race fee is $32 for the 5K run, $22 for the 5K Walk and $22 for the Cancer Survivor/Non Competitive 5K. Registration can be completed online at www.RaceDayWorld.com. Participants are encouraged to wear Teal/Aqua and Black as support colours for the event.
