June 28th, 2017 Bermuda Calendar Update
Good morning!
Hope you all are having a good week and aren’t too bummed out about the result of the America’s Cup. With the AC having finally come to a close, things should be back to normal soon – and there’s still plenty to do in Bermuda! Here are the latest events that have been added to the Bermuda Calendar since last week. Bringing you yet another inspiring and educational event, BUEI Talks presents: Race For Water … The Odyssey on Thursday, June 29th.
Join them for an unforgettable evening as hear about the mission, journey and achievements of the Race for Water Odyssey. Find out what it’s like to journey around the world fuelled only by sun, sea and air from members of this epic vessel’s crew. Hear first-hand about their scientific results out of Bermuda. You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity before they depart on the next leg of their expedition around the world.
The lecture starts at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to ticket holders dining there before or after the event. Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar and the full menu will be available from 6pm – please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. Tickets for the lecture are $20 for members, $25 for non-members, $10 for students and are available by calling 294-0204 or visiting BUEI’s Oceans Gift Shop. Tickets are non-refundable within 24 hours of event.

Make your way to the East End for a chance to have lunch with a difference at the Kiwanis Club of St. George’s Grand Silent Auction on Sunday, July 2nd.
Held from 2pm until 4pm at Clearwater Beach, there you will be able to place silent bids on a variety of meals and then enjoy your success. Up for auction will be an array of basket lunches with a collection of lunch foods, snacks, deserts, and drinks.
Kiwanis is a global organisation dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. The main thrust of the Kiwanis Club of St. George’s is serving the children of the world, and this Grand Silent Auction will raise funds for the club’s administrative purposes.
You are invited to bring a friend, test your bidding skills, have fun, enjoy a great meal, and help the Kiwanis Club of St. George’s continue to serve children in Bermuda and around the world.

Get ready for a biblical adventure – Operation Artic, Exploring the Coolest Book on the Planet – at the Evangelical Church’s Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 2nd until Thursday, July 6th.
This is aimed at children aged from 5 to 12 years old and will run from 6.15pm until 8.30pm.
This is a free camp and pre-registration is preferred but not mandatory.

True reggae lovers are invited to an all vinyl tribute dance for Mr. Kent Outerbridge, aka Fadda Dub, the founder of Dub City, at A Tribute to Father Dub on Saturday, July 1st.**UPDATE: This event will now take place on Sunday, September 3rd at Devonshire Recreation Club.**
From 9pm until 3am at Devonshire Rec. Parking Lot, this event is being hosted by Conscious J with musical selections by Magnum Force Int’l, Jones Town Int’l, Black Lion, Reality Sound, Lenky Boy Movement, Dub City Int’l, Blackstar, and Nuclear Weapon. There will also be a special guest appearance/performance by Jamaica’s own reggae legend, Luciano aka JahMessengeJah. **UPDATE On the recent passing of his mother Luciano regrets he will not be able to make it to perform at this event.**
**UPDATE Tickets cost $25 and are available at the door, from Ptix.bm, Jamaican Grill, Fish N’ Tings or Dub City Variety. Partial proceeds will go towards the Bermuda Diabetes Association.

For one night only, the Black Horse Tavern will reopen to host the St. David’s Island Fish Fry on Friday, July 7th.
From 6pm until around 8pm, the menu will include a cup of fish chowder, fresh Bermuda fish, coleslaw, peas and rice, a roll, dessert, and one glass of wine. There will also be a donations bar for wine and beer.
The cost is $60 for members, $75 for non-members, and all proceeds will benefit St. David’s Island Historical Society, a registered charity.

Kick off Cup Match early at the Headway Hair and Beauty Show on Friday, July 28th.
From 4.30pm until 6.30pm at the Washington Mall, you can join them for free drinks and nibbles, while picking up ideas on how to wear your hair, from informal beach styles to traditional or edgy wedding hair. There will also be lots of free giveaways and a draw worth $500 for eyebrow tattooing, the ultimate beach/wedding accessory.

The Bermuda Football Association will be hosting its 1st Annual BFA Corporate Wellness Beach Soccer Tournament on Saturday, August 19th.
From 10am until 6pm at Horseshoe Bay Beach, corporate teams are invited to participate in this event which will start with a wellness warm-up, followed by a round robin beach soccer tournament.
All are invited to come out and watch this event, which will include food and drinks for sale, and fun/ live commentary by a DJ, with all proceeds to be donated to the registered charity, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda.
The cost to participate is $1000 per teams of 10, consisting of 8 members, with two spots complimentary for a Big & Little Match pair. Registration can be done online at www.bermudafa.com
