Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents their latest exhibit, The People of Bermuda by Jane Masojada, opening to the public on Saturday, May 19th.
Jane Masojada is a contemporary figurative artist specialising in portraiture. The colours and light of her early years growing up in South Africa feature in her paintings as does the analytical nature of her scientific background. Jane’s aim is to describe what she sees in paint, whether that is the reality of the human presence in the form of a portrait or life study, a landscape or any natural form.
Jane has created this series of paintings ‘The People of Bermuda’ as part of her role as Artist in Residence at The Masterworks Gallery of Bermuda. The aim of the exhibition is to capture a snapshot of Bermuda today, in which many aspects of Bermudian society are represented. Each person is portrayed in their own context showing something of their role and contribution to life on this beautiful, vibrant island. They range from four premiers, the doorman of a hotel, a musician, Rastafarian, surgeon, builder, vet, seamstress, premier league footballer and film star – all showing that this tiny island has a global reach.
The official opening reception will be in the Rick Faries Gallery from 5.30pm until 7pm on May 18th and the exhibit will run until June 13th.
Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Masterworks is closed on public holidays. General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.
