April 24th, 2019 Bermuda Calendar Update
Good Morning Bermuda!
We are quickly approaching the end of April, and that means summer is just around the corner – Yay!! The Bermuda Calendar is already filling up with lots of options for planning some fun in the sun, so without any further adieu, here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added since last week.

You can step into history in the Royal Naval Dockyard on a Historical Re-enactment and Walking Tour, offered every Tuesday and Friday, from now until the end of the summer season.
Suitable for all ages, this interactive and educational experience will depict life in the Royal Naval Dockyard in the early 1800s. With a knowledgeable guide and actors (fully dressed in period costume), you will be transported to another time, while learning the historical aspects of breakwaters, fortifications, storehouses, workshops, barracks and much more.
The tour is free to join and starts at 9:45am at the moongate on the cruise ship pier.
The tour is offered every Tuesday and Thursday until October 29th.

WEDCO’s Living Arts Guided Walking Tour is back for another season.
Dockyard has inspired artistic expression since it was designed in the early 19th century. Today, the area boasts glass-makers, woodworkers, maritime artists, potters, jewellers and so much more. Join WEDCO’s knowledgeable tour guide, a local historian with an eye for art, for an interactive experience learning about the Royal Naval Dockyard’s art history and visit a variety of working studios. On this tour you will also meet the talented resident artists, who are inspired by the Royal Naval Dockyard.
The tour is free to join, and starts at 9:30am at the moongate on the cruise ship pier in Dockyard.
The tour is offered every Thursday throughout the summer until October 31st, with the exception of July 18th and July 25th.

Every Wednesday at 5pm it’s Gin O’Clock at Crown & Anchor, a new gin-themed Happy Hour, starting on April 24th.
Enjoy a mid-week pick-me-up, at the restaurant in the Hamilton Princess Hotel. Each week will feature an exciting new gin.
The cost is $10 per drink, plus gratuities.
This event will continue every Wednesday until the end of June.

This spring/summer Anchor Restaurant in Dockyard invites you to join them for BBQ Night every Thursday, starting on April 25th.
Weekly from 6pm to 10pm, you can enjoy a BBQ menu that focuses on local cuisine. Your meal will be complemented by the smooth sounds of DJ Donnie, playing reggae, soca, and old school tunes.
The cost per person is $39.95, plus 17% gratuity.
This event will continue every Thursday, until mid-October.

There’s a new way to spend your Sundays, with the Movement Tribe Meetup.
Weekly from 2pm until 3pm, at a different beach each time, you can join others to exchange, inspire and explore together. So come out and get moving, all types of movement is welcome.
There is no cost to join.
The event will continue every Sunday afternoon until June 30th.

The Bermuda School of Music are hosting a Benefit Concert featuring Jane Farge (Mezzo Soprano) and Andrea Hodson (Piano) on Sunday, April 28th.
Held from 7pm until 8:30pm in the AWAC Room at the Bermuda School of Music, this recital concert will feature the works of Handel, Quilter, Copland, Gershwin, Bernstein and others.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children and seniors, and are available at the School of Music, Bermuda Bookstore and at the door. Net proceeds will go to the Bermuda School of Music’s bursary fund.

Try a new approach to your health with Iyengar Yoga For Beginners, a new 6-week course, starting on Tuesday, April 30th.
This unique style of yoga encourages precise alignment and mindful movement, often utilising a variety of props to help students safely learn and hold poses for maximum benefit. Iyengar yoga provides an ideal foundation for new students, and offers a comprehensive platform for more experienced students to advance their practice.
Classes will be held weekly at The Club Yoga Centre at Fritholme Gardens (Elbow Beach). To accommodate changing schedules, classes are offered on different days/times and can be switched: Tuesdays 8-9pm, Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm, Fridays 7:45-8:45pm, and/or Saturdays 10:45-11:45am.The course is suitable for students of all abilities, ages 16+.
The cost is $150 for the entire 6-week course.

BIFFFlix Monthly Film Series presents Free Solo on Wednesday, May 1st.
The film, starting at 6:30pm at Specialty Cinema, is an Oscar-winning documentary about free solo climber Alex Honnold.

The Club Yoga Centre @ Fritholme Gardens is offering an 8-Week Kid’s Yoga Course for children between 7 and 11 years old, starting on Thursday, May 2nd.
Classes are held weekly from 4pm until 5pm, and promise to be challenging and fun. Classes will also include a period of quiet relaxation.
The course is taught by Cara Bowen, a certified Iyengar yoga teacher at the Intermediate Junior 3 level. She has been practicing yoga for 20 years and has studied with the Iyengar family in India, the US, and the UK. In addition to teaching yoga, Cara holds a Bachelors Degree in Art and Art History and a Masters in Teaching, and has been teaching in US and UK schools since 1998.
The cost is $160 for 8 weeks. Class size is limited to 10 kids so pre-registration is required.

The Club Yoga Centre @ Fritholme Gardens is hosting an 8-week Iyengar Yoga: Padmasana Course starting on Friday, May 3rd.
Class is held every Friday from 6pm until 7:30pm, and throughout the 8 weeks you will work on a variety of poses that include half or full padmasana. Hip mobility will be developed so that knees and ankles remain safe and passive. These postures have many stages that will allow students at different levels of ability to participate and enjoy the benefits.
Working towards Padmasana is fun and can improve spinal support and extension, increase groin flexibility, tone and stabilize outer hips.
The cost is $240 for the whole course. There is no class the week of May 23rd.

Do you own, or have recently purchased a boat? Get ready for the boating season and learn what you should know at the Pre-Summer Boating Seminar on Saturday, May 4th.
Starting at 9am at Bermuda Sailors’ Home, this 2-hour seminar will be hosted by Anthoni Lightbourne of Waypoint Marine Consulting, to give the beginner boater information needed to enjoy their time on the water in a safe manner. For the boater who already has some experience, this seminar will act as a refresher course that will help them to improve upon their existing skills. Topics covered will be boat navigation, boat handling, rules and best practices while operating a motor vessel.
Attendees will also have a chance to ask questions during the Q&A portion of the presentation. Light refreshments will be served.

Scribbles Art Shack are hosting their next Vibe & Paint Night: The Cinco de Mayo Edition at Bulli Social on Sunday, May 5th.
From 3pm until 5pm, persons over the age of 18 can enjoy the atmosphere at Bulli Social; with DJ, libations, wings and painting. Bring a crew and paint a masterpiece – pre-sketches or blank canvases will be available. If you just want to eat, drink and enjoy the vibe, you can do that as well.

MS Society of Bermuda’s Quiz Night: A Pre-Tag Day Event will take place at Docksiders on Wednesday, May 8th.
The quiz starts at 7pm, but as food and bar service is available, they encourage you to come early to prepare yourself for the fierce competition.
The cost is $10 per person, with teams allowed of up to 6 people. All proceeds will go to the MS Society of Bermuda to aid members with MS-related medical costs.

Scribbles Art Shack are celebrating their 2nd Business Anniversary, with a Pre-Mother’s Day Garden Art Party with your Lil’ on Saturday, May 11th.
From 4pm until 6:15pm in the Sensory Garden at Botanical Gardens (follow the balloons), mums and their lil’ ones (ages 4-10 years) can join Scribbles for what promises to be a magical afternoon. Dress code is sparkles and unicorn attire.
The Garden Party which will showcase Ashley’s Lemonade; a party animal visit; garden games; canvas painting (shared canvas between mom and one child); magical goodies and snacks; and light music.
Adults must remain with children at all times.

All members of the public are invited to view a French movie with English subtitles at the May edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes: showing Le Prénom (What’s in a name?) on Tuesday, May 14th.
Released in 2012, the film is a comedy/drama directed by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte. The film stars Patrick Bruel, Valérie Benguigui,Charles Berling, and Françoise Fabian. Running time is 1h 49mn.
