Who needs Broadway? The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda are saving you the airfare as they are back with their annual October production.
The last time an actual Gilbert & Sullivan show was produced by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda was in 1996. Now 18 years later, Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda is going back to its namesake’s vaults and reinventing The Pirates of Penzance.
In the same way that Shakespearean texts exist to be interpreted in many ways, the same could be said of the Gilbert & Sullivan scores. This year’s Bermuda G&S Production Team plans to stage the show as an unabashed musical – think a classic musical comedy romp in the sand dunes with echoes of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The show will run at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall from Thursday, October 9th to Saturday, October 18th except Monday, October 13th. Showtime is at 8pm, except for Sunday, October 12th which is at 3pm.
Tickets are $55 and available at www.pTix.bm. Patron tickets are also available now.
For more information, visit www.gands.bm.
The 32nd PGA Grand Slam of Golf this year will take place at the Port Royal Golf Course from Monday, October 13th until Wednesday, October 15th.
This is the last time that this season-ending showcase of the Major Champions from 2014 will be taking place in Bermuda and the players will vie for the title “Champion of Champions” and a 1.35 million dollar purse.
Participants this year will include the Masters Champion Bubba Watson, U.S. Open Champion Martin Kaymer, the British Open Champion and PGA Champion Rory McIlroy and, since defending Grand Slam Champion Adam Scott cannot attend, past major champion Jim Furyk.
The PGA of America have announced that this final PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda will be free to local residents who want to attend. Complimentary tickets will first be available to the public on Monday, September 8th and can be collected at the pro shops of Port Royal Golf Course or Turtle Hill Golf Course during normal business hours. The final day to collect free tickets is Friday, October 10th and each fan will be permitted up to four complimentary tickets, good for any day of the Grand Slam.
For visitors, or for locals after October 10th, general admission tickets cost $20 per day, or $50 for a Season Grounds Ticket Package for all three days. Each ticketed adult will be allowed four junior admissions (aged 17 and under) to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf at no additional charge.
Various hospitality packages are also available.
For more details, or to purchase tickets online, see their website at www.pga.com/grandslam.
