August 19th, 2015: Bermuda Events Update
Morning Troops!
Well, it might look as if winter has come early this year but at least the rain is warm – let’s hope it brightens up a bit soon so that we can enjoy the end of the summer. Here’s the latest on what’s coming up in Bermuda:
Promising to be a great event for avid teen readers from M1 and up, KICS Reviews by Blu will be tackling more books in Breeana Putttroff’s The Dusk Gate Chronicles series at The Bookmart on Thursday, August 20th.
Join Blu and friends as they complete books 2 and 3 in the summer book series, Roots of Insight and Thorns of Decision, from 6pm until 8.30pm. KICS Reviews by Blu is an online teen book club produced by a teen and features reviews of some of the popular YA titles every Friday.
Admission is free and there will also be door prizes and snacks.
For more information, visit www.kicssystems.com.
Julia Frith is a Bermudian artist who is attempting to have it all – whatever that means – and is putting on her own show, Match Me If You Can on Friday, August 21st, to raise money for her education.
You may remember Julia as the Princess Li-Chee in the Panto, Aladdin, or singing at Chewstick and the John Lennon Concert, or fire breathing/spinning with Rockfire Productions, or playing in her aerial silks. You might know her as the saucy French Feather Duster, Babette, from Troika’s Beauty & the Beast, or as your child’s babysitter. She may have even made you coffee at Tribe Road Kitchen.
Now, as a swan song before she leaves, she has created a presentation on the power of the performing arts, its greatness, its pitfalls, its ability to shred a person… (If their aims are set in the wrong place), and its ability to be a platform for awakening and transformation.
From 7.30pm at Daylesford Theatre, the show will feature aerial silks, singing, dance, a guest appearance by her very own brother, Gabriel Frith, and more.
Julia feels that this show is the perfect way for her to share who she is and why she would give up the comforts of life to take up the profession of a starving artist. By coming to the show, you are not only supporting her, and her desire to create, but you are also helping to pay for her university education.
Tickets are $35 and available from www.pTix.bm. All money raised from ticket sales and generous donations will go towards university funds and the completion of Julia’s BFA in one of London’s top drama conservatories over the next three years.

The Elbow Beach Iyengar Yoga Centre located at The Club in Paget has developed into a vibrant centre for excellence in yoga in Bermuda. Kirsten and Richard Agar Ward, senior Level 3 Iyengar Yoga teachers, welcome yoga students with at least one year of yoga experience to attend the Yoga Workshop being offered on Saturday, August 22nd.
The workshops will run from 9am until 1pm and will be led by Richard Agar Ward.
The centre offers a light, spacious and peaceful haven in which you can embark on your yogic journey, with all classes taught by certificated Iyengar Yoga teachers, so you can be sure of safe and skilled teaching. The Centre has two fully equipped yoga studios so there is no need to bring your equipment, though you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.
The Iyengar method of yoga is systematic and thorough. Through careful structuring you make safe and steady progress. You start with asanas (postures), including savasana (relaxation) and gradually more difficult asanas are introduced as your depth of understanding increases. After some time, in accordance with the Yoga Sutras, pranayama (breathing technique) is introduced. For further details on their full summer class schedule go to www.fritholme.com – under Amenities – The Club – select and click on Kirsten Agar Ward, Senior Iyengar Teacher.
The cost of the workshop is $100.
