Not only is Lobster Season finally back but another holiday weekend is almost upon us – that’s cause for celebration, don’t you think? Here’s the latest run-down on what’s going on in Bermuda in September:
The Bermuda Society of Arts will open Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation’s (KAF) Annual Show at their City Hall gallery on Friday, September 4th.
In the Edinburgh Gallery, you can come and experience art inspired by their Explore the World summer curriculum. Celebrate Austrian, Irish and Columbian culture though drawing, painting and experimented with wire, paper and clay to create themed sculptures. Each child who entered the KAF doors this summer has contributed to this diverse, vibrant show.
Work on display in the Onions Gallery has been produced by KAF’s talented staff and the students who have joined them during the 2014-2015 school year. Classes are structured in order to empower children through the artistic process. Art Enrichment supports the educations process and promotes a deeper understanding of traditional core academics.
The grand opening of this show will be from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, September 4th.
Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays. The exhibits will run until Tuesday, September 29th.
Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and all are welcome.

Gather your family, friends and co-workers to come out to support, get active and enjoy a beautiful part of the island in honour of Sickle Cell Awareness Month in September.
The Bermuda Sickle Cell Association invite you to join them on a Sunset Nature Walk along the Hamilton Parish Railway Trail on Friday, September 4th
Participants should meet t 6.15pm at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, where parking will be available. The route will start from Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, heading west along the Railway Trail until Francis Patton School, then turning around to head eastward to Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.
This event is free of charge and participants are asked to wear red.

Get ready to boogie down memory lane as Goodtyme Entertainment presents The Pre Labor Day Old School Jam with The U-Fonics on Friday, September 4th.
Doors to Bootsie’s at The Grand will open at 7pm and, from 8pm until 10pm, you can enjoy music by the 60s and 70s soul vocal band, The U-Fonics, as well as the best in Old School soul hits from DJ Brotha Richie. The Blues Beat Band will also be featured at this show.
Regular tickets are $25 and available from U-Fonics members. There are also a limited number of VIP tickets for $50. The VIP experience includes one complimentary drink ticket, a tasty selection of finger foods, chocolate covered strawberries and other ‘sweet treats’, and the opportunity to mingle and be catered to by the U-Fonics themselves before the show. There will also be special VIP seating for those that want to get up close and front and centre during the performance.

Anyone who has grown up around Portuguese families and friends will totally identify with the humour in the Portuguese Kids and Mike Rita Comedy Show from 7.30pm at St. Patrick’s Church Hall on Friday, September 4th.
The Portuguese Kids are an improv comedy group from Boston and Mike Rita is a stand-up comedian from Canada. Their show is based on the funny side of growing up in a Portuguese immigrant family. The show is in English and Portuguese and they have been described as absolutely hilarious. Adding a Bermudian perspective, the opening act is local comedy group, the Three Choricos.
Tickets are $50 for adults, $25 for children aged 12 and under, and are available from Music Box. Amigos da Casa dos Acores da Bermuda (Friends of the House of the Azores of Bermuda) is a Bermuda Registered Charity.

Grab a bargain at the Peace Lutheran Church’s Car Boot Sale on Saturday, September 5th.
This will run from 9am until 2pm and promises lots of bargains on clothes, shoes, bags/purses, household items, artwork, DVDs, CDs, toys, jewellery and lots more items.

New Testament Church of God, Miracle Temple invite you to their Back to School Mini Fair on Saturday, September 5th.
From noon until 6pm, families can come and enjoy the fun and play games to win some school supplies. After winning the games, children will be given tickets which they can then redeem for whatever school items they select.
The first 100 children will also receive a free school bag and each bag will be pre-packed with a minimum amount of school items.
Refreshments will also be available for purchase, including hamburgers, hotdogs, fish on a bun, cotton candy, snowballs and a candy stand. There will also be a photo booth
There is no entry fee.
Interested in scoring a trip to New York with two of your friends?
Then sign up for the 2nd Annual Becks Scavenger Hunt on Monday, September 7th for a chance to win.
The fun begins at 4pm on the top level of Bulls Head Car Park. Last year, there were over 80 participants searching for clues to win the grand prize of a trip to New York. They’ll be doing it again next year but this time there will be no surprises, and the team who has the most points at the end of the day will be the winners.
Registration is free and teams of three must be aged 18 or over, with one vehicle per team. Teams must be registered by Friday, September 4th.

As a prelude to the Charman Prize Exhibition, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art have created a group show, featuring recent work by the artists who have won awards in the 2008 to 2013 Charman Prize exhibitions, opening to the public at 5.30pm in the Rick Faries Gallery on Friday, September 11th.
There has been a wide variety of different media and styles recognized over the previous six Charman Prizes and they look forward to highlighting the scope and talent within Bermuda that has been displayed through this event over the years. Aiming to represent the previous winners with a recent example of their work, the dynamics and contrast of these artists and their featured pieces truly showcase the diversity of our art community.
Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 11am until 4.30pm on Sundays. Masterworks is closed on public holidays. General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.
The exhibit will run until September 23rd.

Whether you’re interested in crafts in general, or just love jewellery in particular, you may be interest in Foundation Skills for Silver Metal Clay: A Jewellery-Making Class with Cindy Mitchell on Saturday, September 12th
Cindy Mitchell, jewellery designer, has been working with silver metal clay making metal masterpieces for the last 7 years. Masterworks are hosting this event as a beginner’s jewellery-making course, so anyone can do it, even if you’ve never worked with this clay before. This will run from 9am until 3pm and the focus will be on making earrings or a pendant in any design you’d like. They won’t be doing any 3 dimensional pieces this first class.
If enough interest is shown, a second class will be held on October 3rd. Only 12 spaces per class are available so you are invited to RSVP as soon as possible.
The cost is $195 for Masterworks members and $205 for non-members.

An opportunity to sip on some vino while watching the sun go down as Discovery Wines are hosting another one of their popular Sunset Wine Tasting Cruises on Saturday, September 12th.
This time, they will be sailing at 6.30pm from Albouy’s Point aboard the Ana Luna with Captain Nathan. From then until the boat returns at 9.30pm, they will be serving a flight of five fantastic wines, with an array of delectable hors d’oeuvres, while sailing around Hamilton Harbour.

The Bermuda Society for the Blind’s (BSFB) monthly information and sharing group, Vision Talk, focuses its September meeting on Sharing the Experience of Vision Loss on Monday, September 14th.
This will take place at Beacon House from 6pm. Listening and learning from the experiences of others who live with vision loss or from those who support a person who has lost or is losing vision is one of the most positive and effective ways to manage your own vision loss. Is there a task or activity that you’ve given up or are reluctant to try because of vision loss? Collectively the group will share ideas on how to complete tasks, participate in activities and overcome challenges.
Free transportation is also available and you are invited to call to RSVP and arrange this.

Have fun while burning calories without hurting your joints at Splash for Teal Aqua Aerobics on Tuesday, September 15th.
This hour-long water aerobic workout will begin at 6pm at Bermuda National Sports Centre. The instructor will be Annette Lewis who runs lively aerobic classes which are lots of fun!

The September edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Les Souvenirs (Memories) at 8pm on Tuesday, September 15th.
Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French comedy-drama with English subtitles is from director Jean-Paul Rouve, with Michel Blanc, Annie Cordy and Matthieu Spinosi
Les Souvenirs tells the story of Romain, 23, who has his whole life ahead of him. A student working nights in a hotel, he is plotting a career as a novelist and, of course, looking for love. His grandmother Madeleine has her best years behind her but she’s defiantly full of life. When her sons put her in a retirement home after her husband passes away, Madeleine can’t help feeling out of place. One day, Madeleine goes missing. She’s escaped! Romain sets off to look for her, somewhere in his grandmother’s memories…

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Bermuda (OCAB) invite you to join them for their 3rd Annual Break the Silence Luncheon on Saturday, September 26th.
From 1pm in the Trudeau Ballroom at the Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club, OCAB will be hosting this annual luncheon to educate the community about Ovarian Cancer.
Their aim is to give women the knowledge so that they will recognise the symptoms early to give them the best chance for survival. This year, they are pleased to announce that Dr. Suzanne T. Berlin, an expert in gynaecologic cancers, will speak to attendees about the signs and the road to a cure.
