Well, whether you love it or loath it, the first day of Love Month is here!
Here’s the latest rundown of what’s going on in Bermuda. As always, don’t forget to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of the post for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.
The Dog Training Club and Avonlea Agility are bringing in two trainers from the UK , for a week of Fun and Informative Dog Workshops and Talks from Monday, January 30th to Sunday, February 5th.
The trainers are promised to be are lots of fun, very experienced with lots of different types of dogs and are dynamic speakers and teachers. More information on them can be found at www.DevonDogs.co.uk. We don’t get opportunities to enrich our dogs lives like this very often in Bermuda, so you are encouraged to make the most of it.
You can either sign up for a workshop with your dog or you can audit and get the same information without bringing your dog along. If you sign up ahead of time, they can send you details on locations and what to bring.
There are evening talks and daytime workshops. Promising to open the eyes of anyone interested in getting more from their dog, the Concept of Training Lecture will be at 6.30pm on Thursday, February 2nd.
Perfect for puppies and young dogs, dog owners can learn about core skills at Foundation FUNdamentals on Wednesday, February 1st and Saturday, February 4th. This will run from 9am until noon on Wednesday, and from 9am until 11am on Saturday. The cost is $80 for a working spot and $35 for an audit spot on Tuesday and Wednesday or $60 for a working spot and $30 to audit on Saturday.
For all who want a better connection with their dog, the lecture and workshop combo, Relationship and Reinforcement Rich Life, will be on Saturday, February 4th. The seminar will be from noon until 2pm and the workshop will be from 2pm until 5pm. You need to do the seminar if you want a working spot in the sorkshop. The seminar only is $25, to audit the workshop is $35 and to do both with a working spot is $90.
Sunday, February 5th, you can find out how to help your dog to be help your dog to be confident, optimistic and happy at the Grit, Optimism, Bravery and Play Talk at 1pm.
There are other workshops during the day as well. Evening lectures are at Somersfield Academy and daytime workshops and lectures are at Avonlea Agility field in Smith’s. Workshops have 8 working spots and unlimited auditing spots.

Evening lectures are $30, $90 with a working spot, which includes both lecture and workshop. You can audit the workshop the next day as well $35.

There’s no doubt about it, kids just love afternoon tea at the Hamilton Princess – so when you want to give them a special treat, bring them over, sit them down and enjoy Kid’s Afternoon Tea on Saturdays.
From 3pm until 5pm at Crown and Anchor, the chefs will bake up all sorts of goodies just for them. This is a recurring event every Saturday until further notice.

In collaboration with the Bermuda National Library and the Bermuda Historical Society, enjoy a screening of two local films at Bermudian Heartbeats: Film Night on Thursday, February 2nd.
From 6pm at Bermuda National Library, you can view About Bermuda: Boer Prisoners of War (running time of 29 minutes) and About Bermuda: Prisoners of War (running time of 30 minutes). The moderator for the evening will be Andrew Bermingham and both films are in English.
This event is free to the public, but spaces are limited. Free tickets are available from the office, www.BDAtix.bm and the Bermuda National Library.

Celebrating the birthday of a legend, Funky Productions presents the 22nd Annual Tribute to the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley at the Bob Marley One Love Peace Concert Tribute on Monday, February 6th.

In honour of Black History Month, Bermuda National Library and the U.S. Consulate will host two Movie Nights on Tuesdays, February 7th and 21st.
Both movies will screen at 6pm at the National Library. Freedom Riders will screen on February 7th while Red Tails will screen on February 21st.

Suitable for students of all levels, body types and abilities, The Yoga Centre are offering a series of Essential Low Back Program Walk-in Classes, starting on Wednesday, February 8th.
This is a progressive, introductory class for current students and new students interested in the LBP 7-week series starting on April 8th, with a strong focus on therapeutic yoga and complementary practices to build a foundation of support for the lower back and pelvis and to relieve chronic low back pain and tension.
Classes will run from 12.10pm until 1.05pm on Wednesdays, February 8th, 15th and 22nd, and from 3.30pm until 4.30pm on Saturdays, February 18th and 25th.
The cost is $25 per class and registration is not required.

Be one of the first to see the next in the Fifty Shades of Grey series at the Movie Premier of Fifty Shades Darker on Friday, February 10th.
Drinks and nibbles will be at the Eateries in Phase 3 of the Washington Mall from 5pm and the movie will be showing at Speciality Cinema at 6.30pm. A selection of goodies from Eve’s Garden will be on sale with part proceeds going to Bermuda Red Cross

The Bermuda Boys’ Brigade and Church Girls’ Brigade are holding their 2017 Valentine’s Fair and Car Wash on Saturday, February 11th.
From 10am to 4pm at St. Paul’s Church Hall and car park in Paget, you can browse stalls with baked goods, books and DVDs, “Nearly New” goods, plants, toys, “Take a Chance” and White Elephant. There will be a fun castle and archery available on the field. Lunch will also be offered with the usual assortment of delicious homemade soups, chili, hotdogs, hamburgers, codfish balls and chicken wingettes.
The Car Wash is $20 for small and regular sized cars and $25 for large cars and vans. Funds raised will help the Brigades to run their programmes, buy their badges and supplies, and pay for outings, etc. for their 40+ boys, aged from 6 to 18 years old.

New for 2017, Swan’s Running Club invite you to become a legend by participating in its Legends Race Series, starting on Sunday February 12th.
The aim of the Legends series is to celebrate Bermuda’s race legends and to keep their contribution to running alive. There are 4 events that are part of this series
Participants within the series must participate in a minimum of three (3) of the four (4) races. First overall Male and Female winners will receive $500 and Legends Trophy. There will also be trophies for first male and female in each age categories. All finishers of the series will receive a legends t-shirt and medal.
The first in the series will be the Ed Sherlock 10K Run on Sunday, February 12th. This will take place at Southampton Rangers Club at 8.30am for walkers and 9am for runners.
The Ray Swan Flat 8K will then take place on Sunday, March 26th. This will take place at West Pembroke School at 8.30am for walkers and 9am for runners.
Next, the Ludwig Cann 10K will be on Sunday, April 9th. This will take place at Astwood Park at 8.30am for walkers and 9am for runners.
Finally, the “Sir” Stanley Burgess 5K will be on Sunday, May 7th. This will take place at the Police Recreation Club at 8.30am for walkers and 9am for runners.
The cost is $108 for all 4 races in the series. For individual races, the cost is $27 for walkers and $32 for runners. Registration is available at www.RaceDayWorld.com.

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association Fundraising Committee invite you to come out for their Movie Fundraiser, The Lego Batman Movie on Sunday, February 19th.
Doors to Speciality Cinema open at 10am and the movie will start at 10.30am. The ticket price includes entry, a drink and popcorn.

Bermuda Red Cross invites you to Sail Along for a Night of Dinner and Dancing at the Hamilton Princess on Friday, March 10th.
