Bermuda National Gallery has been closed but will be reopening to the public on Friday, September 13th with 3 new exhibitions. Eyes on the World, in partnership with the Alexia Foundation, is a photojournalistic exhibition focused on social issues. This has been extended with new work. Also on display is a selection of botanical paintings and drawings from the Bermuda National Trust Collection by Charlotte Anna Lefroy, completed when she was in Bermuda with her husband. Major-General John Henry Lefroy was Governor from 1871 to 1877. Photographer Meredith Andrews will also be exhibiting her latest show, Fathers. All exhibits will run until November 23rd. A brand new shopping experience is coming soon to Somerset. The West Market will take place between 9am and 1pm on Saturday, September 14th, October 12th and November 16th at the Warren Simmons Field, across from Arnold’s. Now in its 28th year of developing strong minds through strong bodies, Tumble Tots Bermuda is relaunching its programme on Saturday, September 14th at the new location of BHS gymnasium. Child psychologists and educators agree that a structured programme in movement should be a part of every child’s education and Tumble Tots offer this kind of physical development in a fun and age-appropriate environment. The half-hour Parent and Tot classes begin at 9.30am, running every half hour until 11am, followed by the Tumble Tots Pre-School Class for 3 and 4 year olds from 11am until 11.30am. September is KitchenAid month and, as part of the celebrations, Bermuda Gas are hosting a KitchenAid Demo Day on Saturday, September 14th. Bermuda’s own Culinary Nutritionist, Ashley Tucker will be creating tasty treats using KitchenAid countertop appliances at 10am, noon and 2pm. Calling all Sailors, there is still time to register for the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) National Championships lined up for Saturday, September 14th at 11am. Participants will have the opportunity to compete for the Class Trophy (thanks to Gubinelli Wines and the Bermuda Yacht Racing Association) and the Overall championship (thanks to Ignition). After the racing, there will be a prize-giving social at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club. Registration is open until 5pm on Friday, September 13th and the registration fee is $75 per boat. Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda (CURB), in collaboration with Bermuda National Gallery, are hosting the next in their series of social justice lunchtime lectures on Wednesday, September 18th. Theatre Boycott: Personal Stories will be from 12.30pm until 1.30pm at Bermuda National Gallery on the 2nd floor at City Hall. Presenter Mrs. Clifford Maxwell, a member of the Progressive Group, will tell her personal story of her experiences leading up to the 1959 Theatre Boycott, which lead to desegregation in Bermuda. To celebrate Bishop Duncan’s 50th birthday, the New Testament Church of God Mortgage Liquidation Committee are hosting a Grill ‘n’ Chill at Shelly Bay Field on Saturday, September 21st. From 3pm until 8pm, there will be fun castles, music, balloons, train rides and more, with burgers, hot dogs, chicken and drinks for sale. Entry is free. A special Educational Fundraiser Quiz Night, with a variety of great prizes to be won, will take place in Docksider’s on Monday, September 23rd. Gareth Hendrickson, a well-liked and well-respected husband and father of 3 boys (under the age of 11), recently passed away, at the age of 39, as a result of a pulmonary embolism. To assist his widow in shouldering the high cost of the boys’ education, a group of employers, colleagues and friends are hosting this Quiz Night as a fundraiser. Sign in will be from 6pm until 6.30pm and the quiz will start at 7pm. The cost is $50 per person for teams of five and the price includes both the quiz participation and dinner. Sabor Dance School have released their Fall Class Schedule. Classes offered include zumba, salsa, hustle, tango and ballroom and run for 7 weeks from $100, starting this week.
