The Swizzle Inn, Bailey’s Bay have started their Oktoberfest celebrations in September! The festivities began on Thursday, September 26th and will run daily until October 6th. The Beer Tent with authentic Oktoberfest tables, benches, decorations and music is set up and Swizzle Inn have imported Paulaner Oktoberfest Draft Beer, direct from Munich. For soakage, Bavarian guest chef Edi Guntl has prepared a full Oktoberfest menu, including schnitzels, sausages, sauerbraten, dumplings, goulash, strudel and more authentic German delights. Super Saturday at Masterworks is back for a new season from September 28th. Each month has a different theme and this one will be Transportation, where families can participate in free themed arts and craft activities from 10am until 2pm. To raise funds while recognising the 5 year milestone of his passing, the Dakarai Tucker Scholarship Fund Variety Show will be on Saturday, September 28th at 7pm in the Warwick Academy PPMH Hall. Bootsie will be the MC for the evening and entertainment will include Ryan Bean, McCartney Darrell, In Motion School of Dance, Bermuda Institute’s Steel Pans, Alex Miranthis, Francesca Dill, United Dance Productions, Sandy’s Middle School Drum Line, the Seventh Day Adventist Choir, Celine Morton Fashion Showcase, eyewear by Mystiques and Touché Accessories, and more. Ryan Miller, the young man who received Dakarai’s heart, will be flying to Bermuda with his family to attend the show. Tickets cost $20 and are available from the Warwick Academy main office or online at www.warwickacad.bm. Tickets can also be purchased on the door on the night. Chef Mike Knight will be at a new venue for one night only on Monday, September 30th as the Ten Cafe & Bar chef will be hosting a Modern Mexican Food & Wine Evening at 6.30pm at Bistro J. Whether you’re looking for a bargain or have stuff to sell, you’ll be delighted to know that the MAMA Car Boot Sale will be at Mount St. Agnes on Saturday, October 5th from 9am until noon. This event will be of particular interest to anyone with a baby on the way, or who needs to update what they already have, as stalls will be selling toys, books, baby stuff and tea/coffee/baked goods with a bouncy castle to keep the little ones amused while you shop. After the resounding success of part one on September 8th, Part 2 of the Bermuda International Piano & Jazz Festival will be held at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Sunday, October 20th. The Festival will begin at 4pm and will highlight the talented piano performers Bermuda has produced with performances from The Giant Steps Band, Raymond George, Brian Herbert, Mrs. Elizabeth Gumbs, Jonathon Tankard and Dr. Wayne Bucknor, Associate Professor of Music at Oakwood University in Alabama. This event is organised by St. Paul A.M.E. with Atlantic Publishing House and MyThyme Productions, known for their surprise opening acts, under the distinguished patronage of Mr. & Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Lois Weeks. **This event has been postponed** Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art hosts its annual Young Friends Dinner at 7pm on Saturday, November 9th. This year you can jump ‘n’ jive the night away as the dinner will be a Rockin’ 50’s Party theme at the Harbour Front Restaurant. The evening will include dinner from 50’s inspired food stations, an open bar, silent auction, raffles, a Bacardi signature drink and prizes for the best dressed.
