November 14th, 2018 Bermuda Calendar Update
Good morning Bermuda!
The countdown to Thanksgiving is on, and as you’ll see below there are a lot of options for celebrating this holiday in Bermuda. So without any further adieu, here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added to the calendar since last week. As always, be sure to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming events, and don’t forget to submit your events via the online submission form so that we can help you spread the word!
Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Diabetes, Respiratory, Endocrine and Metabolism (DREAM) Centre will offer Free Health Screenings on Wednesday, November 14th.
From 10am-1pm in the lobby of the General Wing at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, the health screenings will check blood sugar, blood pressure and lung function as part of World Diabetes Day and World COPD Day celebrations.
If you are a smoker or former smoker over 40 years-old, please come and do the lung-function test. It’s quick, easy and non-invasive.
Everyone is welcome to the free screening event.

Never short of things to celebrate, Masterworks Museum invites you to join them for a very special occasion: 10 Years a Museum-Redux on Wednesday, November 14th.
From 4pm until 6:30pm, they will host a High Tea Party to honour special guests including their patron, HRH The Prince Of Wales, director and founder, Tom Butterfield, and head of collections, Elise Outerbridge, who are all turning 70. The event is in conjunction with the special new exhibit opening on this day.
Admission is free, however space is limited.

In celebration of Diabetes Awareness Month, the Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Diabetes, Respiratory, Endocrine and Metabolism (DREAM) Centre presents a Free Public Talk on The Dilemma of Weight Loss on Wednesday, November 14th.
The talk starts at 6pm with the hospital’s Resource Centre on the ground floor of the General Wing, where all are welcome to learn the science in how weight is gained and why it can be challenging to maintain or lose it.
BHB Locum Endocrinologist Dr Amy Freeth will present and include a discussion on how food, medications, surgery and mindfulness practices can help you to start taking actions for a healthier you.
This event is free.

The next event in the Bermudian Heartbeats Lecture Series will be a screening of Maternal Secrets on Thursday, November 15th.
Starting at 6pm at BUEI, this film produced by Brooke Williams and director and co-writer Lucinda Spurling, is about a US state senator who goes missing on vacation in Bermuda, and his pregnant girlfriend Aubrey searches for answers. What she learns is his estranged mother is on the island and knows more about the disappearance than she is letting on.

You can get an early start on your Christmas shopping this year, as Gosling’s Limited has collaborated with 10 of Bermuda’s Top Local Vendors to bring you the 4th Annual Luxury Shopping Night on Friday, November 16th.
From 5:30pm until 8:30pm at their Wine Cellar on Dundonald Street, you can sample a selection of Craft Beers, Spirits, Champagne and 20 Premium Wines from their portfolio, while browsing for gifts. Miles Market canapés will be served alongside craft cocktails by Twisted Spoon and The Blind Pig. There will be special savings on featured items and door prizes too!

Get your tickets now for the Impact Mentoring Academy Potluck Fundraiser on Friday, November 16th
From 5:30pm at PRC, you can support the school as it works to provide an alternative, productive and educational environment for Bermuda’s Young Men.They promise that you won’t want to be left behind and encourage you to get your tickets early as the last potluck sold out.
Tickets are $15 per plate and can be purchased in advance from Impact Mentoring Academy Students, parents, or staff.

Join in celebrating Boundary Sports Bar and Grille’s 1st Birthday Party at Fairmont Southampton this Friday, November 16th.

Experience Bermuda’s biggest arts & crafts festival, BUEI’s Harbourside Market on Saturday, November 17th.
From 10am until 4pm, you can find unique and wonderful holiday gifts from over 40 local vendors. There will also be BUEI tram rides, a preview of the BMDS Christmas musical, a baked goods & soup stall, photos with Santa from 11:30pm-1pm, and a raffle draw to end the market at 4pm.

The Paget Primary Parent Teachers Association (PTA) are hosting a Car Wash & Bake Sale on Saturdays, November 17th and December 1st.
From 10am until 4pm at Rubis Gas Station on South Shore, students of Paget Primary will be selling baked goods and washing vehicles in effort to raise money for the school. The event on November 17th will see students from the lower primary and December 1st will see students from the upper primary.
The cost varies per vehicle: bikes $10, cars $20, SUVS $30. All Proceeds to aid the Paget Primary School.

The Bermuda Economic Development Centre invites you to join them
for An Evening with Dr Julian Manley on Tuesday, November 20th.
From 6pm until 8:30pm at St. Paul’s Centennial Hall, this event will be a dynamic, multimedia experience designed to disrupt the usual thinking, foster new creative energy and build more sustainable communities. Join them as they take a deep dive into the Preston Model, an entire community built on the cooperative model.
The event is perfect for non-profits, community groups, Lodges and Friendly Societies wanting a deeper vision for their future, teams wanting to build a shared purpose, and higher education researchers and educators seeking deeper learning.

This year, there are three opportunities to enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner at Marcus’ on Wednesday, November 21st, Thursday, November 22nd and Saturday, November 24th.
From 6pm until 9pm on each of these days, you can relax and enjoy a set menu for $65 per person, plus gratuities. Or add an optional cider pairing for $45. A la carte menu options will also be available.
They are even offering the option for you to take your Turkey To Go. Marcus’ will do the work for you so you can enjoy a take away dinner with all the trimmings.

Experience Thanksgiving with an Asian Twist at L’Oriental on Thursday, November 22nd.
The restaurant is open for Lunch from noon until 2pm, and dinner starts at 6pm. You can enjoy a delicious 2-course or 3-course meal, with a menu that is sure to please everyone.
The cost is $29.75 for 2-courses or $35.75 for 3-courses, plus gratuities.

Boasting a delicious menu that is sure to please, all are invited to enjoy Thanksgiving at La Trattoria on Thursday, November 22nd.
The restaurant will offer a 3-course Lunch Menu from 11:30am to 3:30pm, and a 3-course Dinner Menu from 5:30pm until closing. The regular A La Carte Menu will also be available.
The cost per person is $23.27 for lunch and $28.75 for dinner, plus gratuities.

There are two ways to celebrate Thanksgiving at Fairmont Southampton on Thursday, November 22nd.
You can sit down to a classic Thanksgiving Day Buffet Dinner with all the trimmings at Windows on the Sound on Thursday, November 22nd. From 6pm until 9pm, you can enjoy all of your traditional holiday favourites along with a few local twists. Items from the live carving station will include a slow roasted turkey with gravy & cranberry-orange chutney, Gosling’s rum-glazed ham, or mustard & garlic marinated strip loin of Angus beef. Indulge with traditional sides like whipped sweet potatoes, creamy string bean casserole, and rosemary fingerling potatoes. Be sure to save space for the dessert buffet, including their pastry chef’s famous pumpkin pie!
The cost is $65 per person, plus %17 gratuity.
The Waterlot Inn is also offering a special Thanksgiving Day Featured Dinner. From 6pm until 9pm, a 4-course traditional Thanksgiving menu will be available.
The cost is $79 per person, plus 17% gratuity.

From 6pm at the restaurant, you can choose to enjoy just one course or the full Thanksgiving menu. Regular a la carte Menu items will also be available.
The cost is $31.75 for one course or $49.50 for the full menu, plus gratuities.

BUEI Screens Presents: Wildlife on Sunday, November 25th.
The film is set in 1960. Jeannette and Jerry Brinson have recently moved to Great Falls, Montana with their teenage son Joe. Tensions build after Jerry is fired from a job as a golf pro at a country club. He is offered his old job back but refuses out of pride, and instead takes a low-paying job fighting a forest fire raging in nearby mountains.
At 5:15pm the film begins in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night out of it as ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner at the Harbourfront (food only) before or after the film. Don’t miss the book launch of new Bermudian author, Andrew Outerbridge at BUEI Talks Presents: The Vigilant on Thursday, November 29th.
Andrew’s first novel has been praised by actor Michael Douglas and quoted by author Saul Kelly as “An evocative coming of age novel set against a Bermudian blue background of treasure-hunting and political shenanigans. You can almost feel the sun on your back and the sea-spray in your face as you are transported out to the banks with this spirited band of treasure hunters.”

The whole family is invited to run or walk in support of the Bermuda Red Cross at the annual Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, December 9th.
This is a 5K route, starting and finishing at Bermuda Air Conditioning at Mills Creek. Walkers will start at 8.30am, followed by runners at 9am. Special prizes will be awarded for best holiday dress and there will also be a raffle draw.
The cost is $30 and registration is open on RaceDayWorld.com. Number pick-up is at the Bermuda Red Cross on December 8th from 2pm – 4pm.
