Happy first day of spring! The new season is officially upon us now and there’s a lot to look forward to on the Bermuda Events calendar. Here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added since last week, but be sure to check out the Quick Recap section at the bottom of this post as well for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.

UNESCO Poetry Day, an event connected to the world-wide UNESCO Poetry Day events held by the United Nations, will take place in King’s Square on Thursday, March 21st.

From noon until 1:30pm, there will be poetry and musical performances by schools as well as special guests. In case of inclement weather the event will be held at the World Heritage Centre.

This is a free event.

The Pink Beach Club invites you to their Spring Solace Dinner for a peak into spring on Thursday, March 21st.

Marcus’ Restaurant in the Hamilton Princess Hotel invites you to Um Sabor de Portugal on Thursday, March 21st.

The Alliance Francaise are pleased to invite you to their annual dinner, a special Soirée Haiti on Thursday, March 21st.

From 6:30pm until 9:30pm at the Royal Dinghy Yacht Club, the event promises to be a great opportunity to learn more about this French-speaking territory in the Caribbean, with a special presentation by Leslie Chauvet, a Haitian residing in Bermuda.

During the evening, they will also announce the winners of the AF scholarships to visit and study in Biarritz, France, for three weeks this summer.

A new show is opening at Masterworks Museum of Art entitled Painting with Thread on Friday, March 22nd.

The show will be held in the Rick Faries Gallery and feature works by the Bermuda Guild of Stitchery. Part proceeds from the sale of items at this show will be donated to Masterworks Education Programmes.

The opening reception is from 5:30pm until 7pm, on Friday, March 22nd. Admission is free. There will also be a Wine and Cheese Tasting hosted by the Bermuda Guild of Stitchery on March 28th. The exhibition will run until April 18th.

The Bermuda College will hold an Alumni Football Social on Friday, March 22nd.

The event is being held from 6:30pm until 8:30pm in the Gymnasium, so that alumni of the college can reconnect. There will be a series of short indoor football games, raffle prizes and refreshments for sale- cash only.

There is no fee for admission.

Come by and support Impact Mentoring Academy at their Car Wash & Bake Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, March 23rd.

This will be held from 9am until 1pm at Impact Mentoring Academy, located at the former Berkeley Institute.

The cost is $20 for cars, $10 for bikes, or $25 for SUVs and trucks. All proceeds will go towards supporting student activities and initiatives.

Middlebury College’s oldest A Cappella Group, The Dissipated Eight will Perform at the Waterlot Inn on Saturday, March 23rd.

Originally a barbershop octet, the group evolved along with modern a cappella in order to incorporate new musical styles. The group continues to perform all over New England and Bermuda at private venues, other colleges, and high schools alike. With 65 years behind them, they look forward to continued success through the blending of traditional and contemporary a cappella.

The performance starts at 7pm.

Join the Bermuda Motocross Club Bi-Weekly Race Series for an adrenaline pumping afternoon of racing on Sunday, March 24th.

If slamming whoops, carving berms and flying high over jumps is your idea of excitement then come check out the riders. From 4-year-old peewees to veteran masters, every class promises to have you on your feet and cheering for more.

The first gate drop is at 12:30pm at BMC MotoSports Park at Clearwater, where you can bring the kids and head over to the pits to meet your favourite rider in person and check out the awesome bikes.

The entry fee is $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and children under 5-years-old enter free.

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre presents Cancer Talks: Colorectal Health at BUEI on Tuesday, March 26th

The talks starts 5:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium, where local Oncologist, Dr. Sein Aung and Local GP Dr. Paula Estwick will discuss your colorectal health.

The Grateful Bread, a community action dinner program to help heal racial and social divisions and foster “One Love” in our society, will host a free dinner for those in need on Thursday, March 28th.

Doors open at 5:45pm at Astwood Hall, adjacent to St. Andrews church on Church Street (opposite HSBC), and service will start promptly at 6pm. Food is served by ticket number until all food is gone. There will also be free giveaways of clothes, shoes, household items, toiletries and more. The event finishes at 7:30pm.

The free meal is provided by the generous donations of their volunteers. Additional volunteers are still needed so sign up to help give back.

All dogs and their humans are invited to join in the Last Chance Fun Dog Walk & Run at Horseshoe Bay Beach on Sunday, March 31st.

Starting at 9am, families can walk or run 5K/1K with their dog. As per Bermuda laws, all pups must be leashed at all times while on the beach and paths. Those without dogs are invited to participate as well.

The cost to enter is $15 per dog, and sign-up can be done online at  www.RaceDayWorld.com. Part proceeds will go to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

Another Castle Masters Day of Fun is happening on Sunday, March 31st.
From 11am until 5pm at the Softball park at Bernard’s Park, there will be multiple bouncy castles, a giant slide, and games to entertain children ages 2 and up.

The $10 entry fee includes unlimited access to the bouncy castles. Adults enter for free, unless they want to bounce too. Food, snacks, and drinks will also be available for purchase.

Welcoming boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 11, a Spring Break Football Camp will run from Monday, April 1st until Friday, April 5th.

Daily from 8:30am at Warrior Park in Smiths, this football-focused camp will provide lots of fun activities for boys and girls, and no football experience is required. Their experienced coaches are also SCARS and CPR certified.

The cost is $30 per day or $125 for the week. Registration is open online at  www.ut7football.com/springcamp2019. Spaces are limited.

Bermuda Jump Rope Federation are offering a Spring JUMP Camp from Monday, April 1st to Friday, April 5th.

They promise a fun and energetic week during which kids, between the ages of 6 and 17, can enhance the skills they have and learn a whole host of new ones from local and international certified world jump rope coaches.

Drop-off is daily from 8:30am. The camp runs from 9am until 3pm. After Camp is also available from 3pm until 5:30pm.

The cost is $150 for the week, plus an extra $100 for After Camp. The daily rate is $30 until 3pm, or $50 with After Camp.

Spring into Art, a mixed media group show by artist members of the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard, will show at Gallery One Seventeen on Friday, April 5th.

The opening is from 5:30pm until 7pm, at the gallery on Front Street where the show will be on display for one night only. The show will move back to the Bermuda Arts Centre in Dockyard after that, where it will remain on display until May 15.

Art in all media including work from Bermuda’s leading artists will be available for sale. This promises to be a chance to add to your local collection that you don’t miss out on.

Restoration Fellowship’s Missions Ministry will be hosting the Mission Possible Community Fun Fair, a White Elephant style spring fair on Saturday, April 6th.

This will be held from 10am until 6pm at Warwick Preschool, and aims to attract members of the public seeking to purchase new and gently-used clothes, shoes, books, toys and household products at reasonable prices. This promises to be a family-friendly affair, allowing children to shop and thereafter enjoy fun activities while adults browse and shop.

The fundraiser is to support those in need locally and internationally. Proceeds will be donated to Warwick Preschool who are recovering from a fire at the facility last year, and His Majesty’s Happy Home – a non-profit orphanage and school located in Krobo-Odumase in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Following the sale any left-over items will be donated to local charitable organisations such as PALS, Bermuda Red Cross and the Bermuda Hospitals Board. The ministry is requesting the help of the general public in donating items that are still in great condition but not longer of use to you. Donations can be delivered to the drop off location in the Washington Mall, within the space opposite Heel Quik, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from March 12- 28, between noon and 5:45pm.

Mark your calendars – it’s time to bounce! Tomorrow’s Voices invite you to their 8th Annual Bounce For Autism Fun Day on Saturday, April 6th.

Since children with Autism love to bounce, this community fun day will have bouncing as the focus of activities, including 13 fun castles and water slides, and the “Wipe Out” from Xtreme Sports Ltd. There will also be a raffle draw, local entertainment, face painting, dance competitions, and a “Bounce Off” competition. Lots of food and snack stalls will also be on site.

Running from 2pm until 8pm at Police Field, the day is designed to help Tomorrow’s Voices raise awareness of Autism and developmental disabilities while celebrating those young people and adults who live successfully every day with these disorders, and also help raise funds for their much-needed centre and services.

This event will not only bring together typical and special needs children to enjoy the same activities, but will also bring parents and families out to participate in a variety of games while supporting a charity so valuable to the Bermuda community.  They also need volunteers so if you are interested in helping, please contact them.

The entrance fee is $12, which Includes all day access to 13 fun castles and 1 entrance Raffle per person. Funds raised from this event will go directly to continuing the sustainability of their autism centre that helps children with special needs every day of the year.

Kids and adults of any age can experience the joys of being on the water as The RBYC Sailing Academy hosts their Community Sailing Day on Sunday, April 14th.

From 10am until 4pm at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, there will be instructors to give taster lessons on the different sailboats at the club. They will have boats to suit all ages and ability levels.

This is a free event.

Looking for a different and exciting activity to do during the Easter weekend? Join the City of Hamilton as they kick of the Fresh Air Film Series with the City’s first ever Drive-in Movie, on Saturday, April 20th.

Take a break from the kites and marbles and drive or ride into the City with family and friends, to the top level of Bull’s Head Car park, for a night of two feature films under the stars.

Showtime starts at 5:30pm for Ralph Breaks the Internet, followed by DC Comics latest box office smash, Aquaman, at 8pm.

Admission is FREE and a seating area will be available. Classic food and snack vendors will be on deck to purchase goodies during the films.

Have fun while showing support for a special autism charity by participating in Tomorrow’s Voices 6th Annual Autism Rocks Socks Charity Fundraiser on Friday, April 26th.

From 8am, island-wide, companies, schools and organisations are invited to participate by wearing crazy, fun socks. Participants are encouraged to create sock competitions amongst students or staff for wearing the most creative or funny socks.

The cost is $5 and participants will receive an Autism Awareness sticker for their donation.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Friends of the College Library, all are invited to an illuminating evening at the Library After Dark on Saturday, April 27th.

Doors open at 8pm at the Bermuda College Library, and the event will feature live entertainment by D.I.A. Band (Devils Isles Audio), starting at 9pm. A cash bar will be available, as well as door prizes.

Tickets are $25 general admission, or $50 for VIP tickets (advance purchase only) which includes access to the VIP lounge, balcony view, and a Cocktail Hour from 9pm-10pm with hot hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary drink.

With so many outstanding Bermudian female authors, Atlantic Publishing House will host The Crystal Butterfly Awards Part 2, a second recognition reception on Sunday, May 5th.

Starting at 1:30pm in the Discovery Room (Cafeteria) at Cedar Bridge Academy, this promises to be another significant event to celebrate Bermuda’s female authors. The publishing house is celebrating 40 years in the business of helping authors get into print, and this is also their 25th year of publishing the only book of women’s writings: Transitions: Voices of Bermuda Women. There will be live entertainment, local food and an opportunity to celebrate eight women authors. The Triumph of the Spirit award will be presented to celebrate nurse/journalist/author and biographer, Meredith Ebbin. The guest speaker is lawyer/author Shaunte’ Simons.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased from Island Kaddy, Music Box and The Leopards’ Club. The authors will also have their books on sale and a variety of vendors will be present.
