Well, April is flying by, almost as quickly as March did – summer days will be here before we know it!
Here are the latest additions to the Bermuda calendar:
Six former World Number One squash players will battle it out over four nights of exhibition play at Bermuda Squash & Fitness Club for Randall & Quilter Legends of Squash 2016 from Wednesday, April 13th to Saturday, April 16th.
The players involved are all former World #1 ranked and World Champions. They include 4 time World Champion Amr Shabana from Egypt, David Palmer from Australia, Thierry Lincou from France, Jonathon Power from Canada, John White from Scotland and Lee Beachill from England.
This event will run from 6pm until 10pm each night at Bermuda Squash and Fitness Club. Three matches will be played per night, with Thierry Lincou (FRA) V Lee Beachill (ENG), David Palmer (AUS) v Jonathon Power (CAN), and Amr Shabana (EGY) v John White (SCO) on the Wednesday, Thierry Lincou (FRA) v Jonathon Power (CAN), Amr Shabana (EGY) v David Palmer (AUS), Lee Beachill (ENG) v John White (SCO) on the Thursday, Jonathon Power (CAN) v John White (SCO), Amr Shabana (EGY) v Lee Beachill (ENG), and Thierry Lincou (FRA) v David Palmer (AUS) on the Friday and Lee Beachill (ENG) v Jonathon Power (CAN), David Palmer (AUS) v John White (SCO), and Amr Shabana (EGY) v Thierry Lincou (FRA) on the Saturday.

The Creative Writing Class has moved from BMDS to the Banyard Room at the Mariners Club.
This is a class held every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm to help people improve their creative writing. Members are given writing tasks to do or help with their own projects. Whether you want to write short stories, poetry, novels, plays, articles, Creative Writing Class can show you how to make your writing the very best it can be.
This is an ongoing course and new people can join at any time.
The cost is $225 per 15 week term. The cost will be pro-rated if you start during a term.

The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society (BMDS) proudly presents its latest production Little Wars by Steven Carl McCasland, opening on Thursday, April 14th.
A country home in the French Alps – June 21, 1940. France will fall to Germany in less than 24 hours – Four famous women writers, a lover and a mysterious caller gather together on the eve of war. It’s quite a night, with cat fights, revelations, recriminations and dark humour played out with the backdrop of war. There may be a world war raging outside but there are many “Little Wars” being waged between these strong characters inside. When Agatha Christie is a guest, it’s a sure thing that something will go bump in the night! This play contains strong language and is not recommended for anyone under 15 years of age.
Showtime is at 8pm each night and the show will run from Thursday, April 14th until Saturday, April 16th and then from Thursday, April 21st until Saturday, April 23rd.

The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street is hosting a Yoga for Seniors Course, starting on Friday, April 15th.
Running from 1.30pm until 2.30pm each Friday, this 8-week course is specifically designed for seniors over 50 and involves gentle stretching to build strength (stirra) and flexibility (sukka) while helping seniors develop tone, endurance and relief from minor health complaints like back, knee and neck problems.
Classes are designed to work with the students where they are at while targeting specific yet basic structural instability.
Breathing practices and mindfulness (focus and concentration) also play an integral role in class design and practice.
The cost of the course is $120.

Select Palette Art (SPArt) will be opening a new exhibit, Vibrant Essence: Abstraction Understood by Susan A. Pearson, at Common Ground on Friday, April 15th.
This cedar-framed series of representational art was created on sabbatical in Cambridge, MA while daughter, Shelley pursued her (post Harvard/Pre Oxford) rowing gap year on the Charles River. Shelley is hoping to represent Bermuda in the Olympics and will be the special guest for Opening Night.
The opening reception will run from 5pm until 7pm at Common Ground and this event is sponsored by C&A Perez and Goslings Ltd.
The exhibit will run through July 13th and can be viewed during Common Ground’s regular opening hours from 7.30am until 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9am until 2pm on Saturdays.
There is no cover charge and all art and sport enthusiasts are welcome.

Join the Women’s VIP Network at their Conversations with our Daughters: Mother/Daughter Boot Camp on Friday, April 15th.
This will run from 6pm until 9pm at Christ Church (Hall), Devonshire, and you should bring your dinner with you.
This event is for you if you seriously want to: ensure your daughter (or the young ladies in your life) knows her value; encourage your daughter to respect herself and others; encourage lady-like social behaviour
Nurture a stronger relationship with your daughter; share with others how they can improve their relationships with their daughters; be in tune with your daughter’s issues and concerns; get your daughter to open up and encourage healthy discussions with her; determine how to effectively resolve conflicts with your daughter; and learn relationship building activities.
The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for girls aged between 9 and 19, and must be registered by April 13th. It is respectfully asked that babies/infants not attend. You do not have to be a mother to attend as our girls need us to hear them.

Hosted by quiz master Steve Lock at Hog Penny from 7pm, all funds raised go to support the Club’s racing crews competing in the World Pilot Gig Championships this month.

Presented by Ras Mykkal, poet, photographer and author, Exploring Bermuda’s Flying Flowers: The Seven Resident Butterflies of Bermuda will take place on Wednesday, April 20th.
The lecture will begin at 7pm in the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo Education Classroom, when you will learn about the life cycles and importance of Bermuda’s seven resident butterflies, through Ras’ amazing and beautiful photographs.
From 6pm until 6.40pm in the Aquarium Hall, you are invited to come early to purchase a copy of Ras’ book, Bermuda’s Flying Flowers, and have it signed by the author.
This event is open to the public and space is limited. Entry to the lectures is free, although a donation of $5 is gratefully accepted. To secure your spot, visit BAMZ.org and register online. Reserved seats will be held until 10 minutes before the lecture starts. After that they will no longer be considered reserved.

If you like Hamilton bars and you enjoy jogging or walking, then you are invited to join in the Thirsty Thursday 5K Pub Run Series on Thursdays, April 21st, May 19th and June 16th.
Thirsty Thursday is a monthly social run/walk from a different local watering hole. Partipants gather at 5.30pm, they run or walk 5K, socialize and the first 50 people to sign in will receive a free drink.
Upcoming Pub Run locations will be Muse Skybar on Thursday, April 21st, Rumbºr on Thursday, May 19th and Coconut Rock on Thursday, June 16th.
Participation is free.

Kids aged between 7 and 10 are invited to come for a Sleepover at the Youth Library on Friday, April 22nd.
From 6pm, youngsters can enjoy an evening of storytelliing, games, scavenger hunt and movies, with dinner and a light breakfast included. Pick-up the following day is at 8.30am sharp.
This event is presented by the Teen Advisory Board of the Youth Library and adult supervision will be provided.
The cost is $20 per child for members only and registration is required.

The Yoga Centre on Victoria Street is hosting a Structure, Strength and Core course, starting at 11.30am on Saturday, April 23rd.
This 12 week course is designed to ensure a steady foundation, build real strength and stability and educate participants about the intricate involvement and application of the Core Body to the practice of yoga. Based on the principals of Anusura Yoga, Rodney Yee’s Core Yoga principles and the principles of “How Yoga Heals” as a therapeutic modality, this course will: Give students a more intricate understanding of structural awareness and tensegrity as it applies to yoga; delve into the concept of “sthira and sukka” in the Yoga Sutras and how strength (sthira) and flexibility (sukka) support one another. The course will also reawaken the awareness of the Core and its infinite involvement for a safe and confident practice.

Fans of fitness and/or martial arts are invited to the Bermuda Karate Institute’s 34th Bermuda Open Karate Championships at the Hamilton Princess on Sunday, April 24th.
Bermuda’s longest running martial arts competition will run from 10am until 2pm and is open to open to competitors of all styles, ages and levels of advancement.
Competitor entries are $40 until April 10th, or $45 until April 22nd. Late entries after April 22nd are $55. Entry forms are available online at www.BermudaKarateInstitute.com or from the Bermuda Karate Institute.

From the hysterical escapades in Don’t Talk To Me Like That, to the dramatic exploits of Keep It Up, this play is the finale to the series and is sure to bring even more drama, excitement and “bundles” of surprises with Jones family in this hilarious comedy.
Where the drama left off… Christopher and Joanne are in marital bliss and have gone off to enjoy their honeymoon; Norman has kicked his half-sister Mildred out of the homestead and moved himself in with Gramps, Flossie, Eddie and Elmira; Flossie and the entire family are in turmoil as Grandpa has been rushed to the hospital; the lights at home have been shut off because irresponsible Mildred forgot to pay the bill; Elmira’s frustrations with her husband continue as Eddie refuses to curb his drinking habit; and Grand Marnier…well, she is her daddy’s child – still just darn right rude!
Doors to the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall open 40 minutes before showtime. Showtime will be at 7pm on the Thursday and Friday, preceded by a VIP reception from 5.45pm to 6.30pm. On the Saturday, showtimes will be at 6pm and 9.30pm, with the VIP receptions at 4.45pm to 5.30pm and from 8.15pm until 9pm, respectively.
All shows are rated PG13, except for the 9.30pm show on the Saturday, which is uncensored and contains adult language.
Regular tickets are $40, Patron tickets are $60, and they are available from BDAtix.bm. All seating is reserved and a $2.50 BDAtix booking fee per ticket applies. Day After Tomorrow (DAT)’s 5th Annual Car Rally Scavenger Hunt, Get Puzzled, the annual fundraiser for Tomorrow’s Voices, on Saturday, April 30th.
Cars will meet at City Hall parking lot at 6pm to start, hunt clues across the island and meet a secret final location.
The cost is $100 per car, with a maximum of 5 persons per car, and all proceeds are donated to Tomorrow’s Voices, Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre.

Start rallying your teams as the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s is once again hosting their annual Relay For Life event from 6.30pm on Friday, May 27th until 6.30pm on Saturday, May 28th.
This is a 24 hour event at the National Sports Centre’s North Field, where people walk in teams to raise funds and awareness for cancer in Bermuda. Ceremonies will be held to Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back. Throughout the day and night there will be special activities, live entertainment and contests.
The mission of the event is to raise awareness and funds to support cancer prevention and detection and to improve access to treatment with the local establishment of radiation therapy.
The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre are asking people to get involved: whether it be registering a team, sponsoring the event, volunteering or just coming on the day and having fun with the onsite fundraisers. The full brochure can be found here.
