November 7th, 2018 Bermuda Calendar Update

Good morning Bermuda! 

Here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added to the Bermuda Calendar since last week. Be sure to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.

Three new exhibits are opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall on Friday, November 9th.

Kevin Morris returns for a solo exhibition of mixed in the Onions gallery: Paintings by Kevin Morris, all paintings in mixed media.

Edinburgh Gallery will host an exhibition by artist Carmen Domarco and all new works in mixed media.

Apples from the Tree a unique exhibition of art by Vivienne Gardner and daughter will be showing in Studios A & B, as well as a fascinating display of seven generations of family art.

The opening reception is from 5-7pm on Friday, November 9th. All shows will run until December 3rd.

BSoA is a non-profit charity and as such admission to the gallery is free; however donations are always welcome.

Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation are celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week all month long, and invite you to join them at the Festival of Entrepreneurship on Friday, November 9th.

From 5:30pm on the lawn of the Cabinet Building, this will be an opportunity for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs and those who want to support small businesses to come out and enjoy a festive atmosphere. There will be entertainment, food and locally-made products to discover at this family-friendly event.

The annual MAMA Car Boot Sale takes place this year in the Jack King Building in the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, November 17th.

Running from 10:30am until 1:30pm, the sale is a great opportunity to find a wide selection of gently used baby and kids gear including strollers, car seats, baby swings and slings, clothes, toys and books all at bargain prices!

Bright Isle’s pop up store will be showcasing their exciting range of educational children’s toys and we’ll have delicious baked goods and coffee on sale too.

Entry is free. If you are thinking of joining MAMA, why not check out their registration desk where we’ll be offering a special discounted rate of $45 to join for 14 months.

The Bermuda Historical Society invites you to join them at Curious Curious every Tuesday at the museum.

Running weekly weekly from 11am until Noon, join historian and author John Cox as he introduces seldom discovered items in the Museum.

This is a free event.

Opening hours at the Bermuda Historical Society are from 10:30m until 1pm, Monday through Friday. Closed on public holidays.

Students of the Senior Music Department will perform a feast of Broadway treats at Saltus on Broadway on Monday, November 19th.

From 7pm in the Alumni Hall at St. John’s Campus , the evening will feature music from Broadway classics such as West Side Story and music from the latest shows – Frozen on Broadway, Hamilton and The Greatest Show.

Tickets cost $10 for adults or $5 for students, and go on sale from November 5th. Tickets can be ordered through boxoffice@saltus.bm.

Bringing you timeless carols, joyful holiday songs and plenty of Christmas cheer, The Bermuda School of Music proudly presents their annual Joy To The World Concert on Friday, December 14th and Saturday, December 15th.

From 7:30pm at St. John’s church on each evening, this season’s glorious and uplifting Choral Christmas Celebration will feature the combined talents of the Bermuda Chamber Choir & Orchestra and the Bermuda School of Music Youth Choir all led by renowned Music Director Marjorie Pettit and Orchestra Director Jennifer Sheridan, under the auspices of the Bermuda School of Music.

You won’t want to miss this thrilling prelude to the Christmas season! This year’s festive concert programme will feature centuries of Glorious Holiday music including well-loved carols, classics by Handel and Bach, and modern classics by John Rutter, as well as many other magical seasonal pieces both old and new. Joy To The World will also feature violin solos by talented young Bermuda School of Music students Naphisa Smith and Jackson Spurling, playing the first movement of Bach’s double violin concerto.

Tickets are $60 for sponsors, $35 for adults, $25 for students and seating is limited. Sponsor tickets will not be numbered, but a special area with prime viewing will be organised and clearly designated. Tickets can be purchased from www.Ptix.bm, the Bermuda Bookstore or the Bermuda School of Music’s office.

The December edition of the Grateful Bread Monthly Dinner Party will be held on Thursday, December 20th.

The Grateful Bread is a community action initiative aimed at healing racial and social divisions in our society.

Volunteers are welcome to come and help set-up from 5pm at Astwood Hall, opposite of HSBC on Church Street. Starting promptly at 6pm, there will be free giveaways of food, donations of clothes, household items, toiletries, and more. The event ends at 7:30pm or when all food is gone.

All volunteers and persons in need are welcome, but please no entry on church grounds until after 5pm.

This event will continue monthly (usually on the last Thursday of each month) until further notice.

Ahoy Maties! Save the Date for Pirates of Bermuda on Saturday, March 16th.

Running from 2pm until 4:30pm at #1 Dock, the Bermuda Sloop Foundation will swoop up local pirates and hostages to walk the plank of Spirit of Bermuda. Visit www.Ptix.bm closer to the event date to vote on hostages to walk or save. The rain date is March 17th.

This event is free for spectators.
