December 14th, 2016 Bermuda Calendar Update

Can you believe that Christmas Day is a week on Sunday?  The festive events are continuing to come in thick and fast – so far, as you can see in the Quick Recap section, there are ten NYE events on the calendar for you to choose from!  Next week’s post (December 21st) is the final post of 2016, so if you’re an event organiser, please submit details of your event now to be included!

 

Here are the latest Bermuda happenings which have been added to the calendar since last week’s post.  As always, don’t forget to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of the post for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.

If you like bar-hopping and you enjoy running, then there is no reason why you wouldn’t enjoy doing both, so you are invited to lace it up and come pub run at the Thirsty Thursday 5K Pub Run Series on Thursdays, December 15th, January 19th and February 16th.

Thirsty Thursday is a monthly social run/walk from a different local watering hole from 6pm on the third Thursday of each month. Participants gather from 5.30pm for sign-in, then participants run or walk 5K at their own pace, socialise and enjoy a drink and prizes.  The first 50 people to sign in will receive a free drink.

Upcoming Pub Run locations will be Docksider on Thursday, December 15th, Muse on Thursday, January 19th, and the Grand Finale at a surprise location on Thursday, February 16th.  Locations are subject to change.

You can also get rewarded for runnin’ and drinkin’ with the Pub Run Loyalty Program presented by Sportseller Ltd and Asics.  The rewards depend upon how many events you run.  One time participants will receive a $10 Sportseller Gift Card, three-time participants will receive an Asics premium sock (value $21), six-time participants will receive an Asics clip-on light (value $28), nine-time participants are eligible for an Asics/Sportseller running tee, tank or hat (value $32-$34), and participants who complete 12 consecutive runs are eligible for an Asics running shoe (maximum value $158.50).

Participation is free and at your own risk.  A waiver must be completed by each participant.

Back by popular demand, don’t miss this stunning, new footage as BUEI Talks presents The Secret Lives of Humpback Whales by Andrew Stevenson on Thursday, December 8th.

Andrew Stevenson will reveal some of his aerial footage in the making of the upcoming sequel to his award-winning film ‘Where the Whales Sing’. His aerial footage graphically reveals the complex social behaviour of the humpbacks as they migrate past Bermuda each spring. Come and see the stunning aerial video he has obtained so far and learn about the complexity of the humpbacks’ lives.

The lecture will start in the Tradewinds Auditorium at 7.30pm.  Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar with Sushi Happy Hour prices on selected sushi and drinks available until 6.30pm.  The full menu will be available from 6pm.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers.  For dinner reservations call 295-4207.

The cost of the lecture is $20 for members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students.

30 colleges from the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean along with the Bermuda College will be on the island to meet and recruit prospective students at the Bermuda International College and University Fair on Wednesday, November 30th.

Refreshments will be served from 5.30pm until 6.15pm, with the event itself running from 6pm until 9pm in the Berkeley Institute Gymnasium.  From 6pm until 7pm, a panel of local presenters will share information about scholarship applications, the US and UK application processes. They will also give tips for parents and students about navigating the college fair and the college planning process.

This event is free and open to the public.

Bring your dinner and a blanket and join Bermuda National Library Youth Services for an evening of stories, music and magic at Family Story Night on Thursday, November 17th.

This will be from 5.30pm until 7pm in the Youth Library Auditorium.

The cost is $5 per family and registration is required.
