May 10th, 2017 Bermuda Calendar Update

It’s another jam-packed update for you all this week – and this is only the events in Bermuda that have been added to the calendar since last week!

Enjoy the iconic Sunset Beach BBQ at Cabana at Fairmont Southampton every week throughout the summer from Wednesday, May 10th.

From 6pm until 9pm each week, you can listen to live island entertainment as you choose your favourites from the hot fire pit, including grilled wahoo wrapped in Bermuda banana leaves, St. Louis-style BBQ pork ribs, and Caribbean grilled chicken, complimented by delicious sides such as calamari salad, mac & cheese and corn on the cob.  Then you can watch the waves crash on their private beach next to Horseshoe Bay as you sample some of the dessert buffet selections.  Cabana Bar & Grill is also open from 11am until 5pm daily.

The BBQ will be on Wednesdays, May 10th and 17th, Monday the 22nd, Tuesday the 30th, Thursday, June 8th, Wednesdays, June 14th, 21st and 28th, Wednesdays, July 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th, Wednesdays, August  2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, Wednesdays, September 6th, 20th and 27th, and Thursday, September  14th.

The cost is $55 per person, plus 17% gratuities.

May 3rd, 2017 Bermuda Calendar Update

It’s finally May – the month when we can get back to beach days and ocean swims!  And if that’s not enough for you, there has been plenty added to the Bermuda calendar since last week to keep you occupied.

BUEI and ACEA present The 35th America’s Cup with Tucker Thompson on Thursday, May 4th.

The America’s Cup, sailing’s pinnacle event, is the oldest and arguably the most difficult trophy in the world to win. For the first time in its history, the 166 year old competition will be hosted in Bermuda. Tucker Thompson, the official Public Host of the 35th America’s Cup, will present an informative and entertaining, multi-media presentation highlighting the Cup’s storied history including the dramatic comeback of AC34, an overview of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, a look at the six competing teams, and what to expect in Bermuda during the upcoming competition from May 26th through June 27th.

Tucker Thompson is the official Public Host of the 35th America’s Cup. A veteran sailing commentator, Thompson has hosted over 1,500 sailing shows on T2PTV and live TV and covered the America’s Cup on TV since the 2007 Cup in Valencia, Spain. He is a national award winning TV and video host, producer, and public speaker, and also a former champion sailor during the 2000 America’s Cup in New Zealand.

The lecture starts at 7pm.  Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar with Sushi Happy Hour prices on selected sushi and drinks available until 6.30pm.  The full menu will be available from 6pm.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers.  For dinner reservations call 295-4207.

Tickets are $20 for BUEI members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students.  Tickets are non-refundable within 24 hours of the event.

The Yoga Centre invite you to attend Yoga for Grief Relief Professional Training on Wednesday, April 26th.

From 1.10pm, this 1/2 day workshop (4 hours) is intended to nurture the appetite of those wishing to continue with this professional grief relief training in the Fall 2017. A somatic psychotherapeutic process using yoga techniques to address the physical, mental and spiritual symptoms of grief towards the re-identification process that follows an important loss. This professional training is suited for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, health and mental healthcare professionals interested in adding yoga techniques to their existing toolkit.

This workshop is taught by professional grief specialist, yoga therapist and author of Yoga for Grief Relief, MA, CMT, RYT Antonio Sausys. Antonio is a somatic psychotherapist and somatic health practitioner. He is a popular presenter at Kripalu.  This event is sponsored by The Yoga Centre in conjunction with Friends of Hospice.

The cost is $105.

April 19th, 2017 Bermuda Calendar Update

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend, full of kites, hot cross buns and fishcakes!  The weather is beautiful and there’s plenty more stuff to do in Bermuda – here’s the rundown of what has been added to the calendar since last week’s post.

It’s almost time for the annual Ag Show and Masterworks Museum will be offering free art courses at their Ag and Arts Show from Thursday to Saturday, April 20th to 22nd.

There will be two activities per day from 10am until noon and then from 2pm until 4pm.  Offering something for everyone, including everything from abstract drawing and painting wine bottles to surreal sculpting, these workshops are for all ages.  Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.   To maximize the amount of participants, they are limiting each individual to one workshop so you are invited to register now before spots fill up.

Admission into the gallery and museum will also be free during these dates so you can come on in and enjoy their 30th anniversary exhibition.

Hope you’re all enjoying this short week – isn’t it fun trying to cram 5 days of work into 4?

Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is celebrating the international spirit of sailing with a three-month art exhibition in the hotel lobby featuring an impressive series of artwork by well-known artist Ewan David Eason.

The commissioned art will showcase seven homes of sailing teams around the globe. The maps, brushed in gold, will feature Auckland, New Zealand; Lorient, France; Osaka, Japan; Portsmouth, England; San Francisco, U.S.; Stockholm, Sweden; and Bermuda.

The work aims to bring a new perspective to the traditions of cartography as Eason is inspired by the intricacies of mapping.

The exhibition will be hosted in collaboration with TAG Fine Arts, a London-based art dealer and publisher, from now until July 30th.

There is no cover charge.
