All members of the public are invited to view a French movie with English subtitles at the June edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes: showing De Toutes Nos Forces (The Finishers) on Tuesday, June 11th.

France 2013 – 1h 35min (Drama, Sport) by Nils Tavernier with Jacques Gamblin, Alexandra Lamy et Fabien Héraud.

“Wheelchair-bound teenager Julien is the apple of his mother’s eye, but he yearns for the approval of his brooding and bitter father, Paul. With his youth as an Ironman champion behind him, Paul distances himself from his disabled son. When Julien suggests the seemingly crazy idea that they join forces to compete in a triathlon in Nice, an incredible journey of persistence and determination begins. The characters are inspired by a true story and the film features moving and fully committed performances from a terrific cast.”

The film starts at 8pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium.

Tickets are $7 for BUEI/AF Members + students, or $12 for Non-members.

The Family Centre (registered charity #378), in affiliation with the Inter-Agency Committee for Children and Families and CURB, present its second annual ACEs Conference on Thursday, June 13th.

The aim of the conference is to educate the Bermuda public on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their long-term effects. The two-day conference will focus on Understanding & Addressing Racial Trauma and the hidden wounds associated with it, and The Economics of ACEs – the high cost of ACEs on individuals, families and the community.

Day 1 is from 9:30am until 5pm at HSBC Bank Bermuda, where the focus will be on: Understanding & Addressing Racial Trauma. The purpose of Day 1 is to help the community understand the connection between racial trauma and ACEs. The day is designed to be a time of reflection, renewal, self-care, and healing for those who are committed to addressing issues of race, racial oppression, and Adverse Childhood Experiences and their consequences.

Day 2 is from 9am until 4:30pm on Friday, June 14th, at Hamilton Princess, Harbourview Ballroom. The focus will be on The Economics of ACEs, with the aim to bring together business leaders, insurance professionals, policy analysts, social service professionals, educators, and key stakeholders to share the science behind adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The conference attendees will gain an understanding of how childhood trauma could translate into workplace absenteeism, the rising cost of health care and mental health services. Their goal is to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and explore ways we can work together to promote greater awareness of the potential impact of ACEs on business productivity.

Tickets are $90 for Day 1, $275 for Day 2, or $350 for both days of the ACEs Conference. Tickets are now available on www.Ptix.bm/aces. For groups of 10 or more, Purchase Order or special payment arrangements contact stephanie@tfc.bm or info@tfc.bm.
