Morning Kids!

I am completely amazed at the number of people who I see going for lunchtime runs in this heat – how do you do it without collapsing?!  Do you stop for ice-cream along the way?  And when did they stop calling it jogging?  Anyway, enough of my random thoughts – here are the latest Bermuda events and activities to keep you all out of trouble:

Forks Over Knives is the next film showing in Bermuda National Library’s Get REEL Wednesday Documentary Film Series. This will be screened this afternoon at 4pm in the meeting room – here’s the flyer!

The Adult Services Film Selection at Bermuda National Library this week is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe **UPDATE:  the film has been changed to Toast** with showtimes at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, July 21st. All are welcome but they suggest you get there early since spaces are limited – here’s the flyer!

Another option for Cup Match Eve – Newstead are hosting a special Happy Hour event on Wednesday, August 1st from 5pm until 10pm, with the water shuttle running every half hour from the dock next to the ferry terminal.  Dress code is smart casual, drink tickets are $6 (or 6 for $30 if purchased aboard the water shuttle) and live music from Duty Free will start at 6pm.  Beau Rivage Restaurant will also be open with an afterparty in L’eau Bar – here’s the flyer!

If you have visitors coming over for Cup Match, or if you are a tourist reading this, the Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT) are offering Cup Match Summer Splash to make sure you get the most out of the biggest holiday weekend in Bermuda.  BDOT will once again host a Visitors’ Stall at Cup Match at Somerset Cricket Club (Thursday, August 2nd and Friday, August 3rd) and a Visitors’ Tent at BeachFest on Horseshoe Bay Beach (Thursday, August 2nd) with complimentary refreshments for guests, upon presentation of your room or cabin key card.  Visitors will also have a special price of $40 for the Soca vs Reggae Party on Friday, August 3rd, with round trip transportation to selected hotels.  As if this isn’t enough, there is not one, but two visitor cruises.  The first is a complimentary Sunset Swizzle Cruise aboard the Destiny on Saturday, August 4th.  The boat departs Albuoy’s Point at 7pm, returning at 10pm, and admission is free with a cash bar.  BDOT will also have a Non-Mariners Visitors’ Cruise to take our guests out to the biggest raft-up of the year, departing at 11am and returning at 6pm.  Again, this  is free with cash bar and visitors will receive a complimentary lunch and a Rum Swizzle.  Both cruises are on a first come, first served basis so please RSVP to tcthompson@gov.bm to secure your space by July 31st – here’s the flyer!

Anyone miss watching movies under the stars at the Moonlight Movie Series?  Then, great news, as this will be back on Saturday, August 11th.  The first movie will be Big Miracle, rated PG-13, which will be showing at Shelly Bay Field.  Movies Down East is sponsored by the Department of Youth, Sport & Recreation  and will feature a variety of young entertainers during Camparama, an annual showcase of students from all the Government Summer Day Camps from 6pm.  In addition to this, there will be food vendors and a KiddieLand with games, rides and activities.  The movie will start at 9pm, after the sun goes down.  For more details, see www.moonlightmovieseries.com.

Another outdoor cinema option, this time from Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club.  The Club’s Movie Night on the Green will be a screening of Transformers on Friday, August 31st.  If you enjoy their famous Good Friday event, this one will have a lot of the same features – including a BBQ Cookout, putting and croquet, a bouncy castle, 5-a-side football, popcorn machine, cotton candy and snowballs.  The cost is $35 for adults, $17.50 for children under 12 and free for under-4s **UPDATE – the price has been reduced to $25 for adults and $12.50 for children under 12**.  For reservations, contact 238-1060 or foodandbeverage@riddellsbay.com – here’s the flyer!
