Morning Ladies and Gents!

Just a quickie before the weekend:

Two new shows will be opening at Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) tonight from 5pm until 7pm.  The first is Through a Child’s Eye by Tricia Walters in Studio B. This will feature watercolour illustrations and handmade toys so parents are invited to bring their children to come and enjoy it with them.  The show ends on August 15th. In the Edinburgh Gallery, BSoA will be showing Emerging Artists 2012, an annual exhibit from their Bursary Award entrants. For more details, see their website at www.bsoa.bm.

Are you a fan of vintage clothing, indie designers and thrift/consignment fashions?  If so, you’ll be glad to know that the new Fatimaya Showroom at 57 Court Street will be opening tomorrow at noon.  The new store will be open Tuesdays to Thursday by appointment and noon until 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays –  here’s the link to the event on Facebook!

In its 7th year, the now-legendary Annual Bermuda Beachfest Emancipation Celebration is back for 2012!  Day 1 is their Emancipation Celebration Concert on Cup Match Eve (Wednesday, August 1st) from 7pm until 2am at Horseshoe Bay Beach and featuring Barrington Levy **UPDATE: due to unforeseen circumstances, Barrington Levy will be replaced by Wayne Wonder** and The Detour Band, Hannah Lyn Kim, Trevor Hall, Joy T. Barnum, Dead PREZ, Imari and more.  The concert is preceded by a Happy Hour from 7pm until the live acts starts at 9pm – no coolers are allowed but there is a cash bar with lots of drink specials.  Tickets are $50 but go up to $60 after today and cost more at the door.  All proceeds will benefit the Chewstick Foundation, and tickets are available from www.ptix.bm, Chewstick HQ, Kit ‘n’ Caboodle, Rock Island or Liberty Theatre.  Once you have recovered from all the fun from the night before, they invite you to their Emancipation Celebration Community Day, also at Horseshoe Bay Beach, the following day from 11am until 9pm.  The festivities will centre around local talent and positive vibes and will include DJs, sports, wacky games, prizes and their signature East vs West Tug of War. Please note that they are discouraging the public from bringing glass bottles to the beach for safety and environmental reasons so think about bringing cans, jugs and reusable canteens instead. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.  For more information, call 292-2439 or email info@chewstick.org – here’s the flyer!

Are you a Bermudian university student starting to think about life after school?  PwC are hosting a Student Networking Reception at Ten Cafe on Thursday, August 9th for students interested in exploring future career possibilities with their HeadStart programme. To RSVP, contact Kimalita Lightbourne at 295-2000 ext. 7326 or pwcbermuda.student@bm.pwc.com by August 6th – here’s the flyer!

81 Productions invite you to go back in time at their How Old School Are You? Game Show on Friday, August 10th.  This will be at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect from 8pm and the MC is Patrice Frith Hayward, host of Real Women. Real Talk on Magic 102.7.  The Game Show is followed by an Old School Jam at 10pm, with DJ Kasper spinning tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s until 1am.  The cost is $25 for the Game Show and Old School Jame or $15 for the Old School Jam only.  Tickets are available from A.F. Smith or Secrets and Old School threads are strongly encouraged.  For more details, contact lgit@northrock.bm or 293-8829 – here’s the flyer!
