April 12th, 2013
It’s Friiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Not that I’m excited or anything (okay, maybe a little bit)! Here is a quick round-up of the latest Bermuda happenings before the weekend:
As mentioned previously, the Bermuda International Film Festival will kick off tonight with over 50 films screening over the next week. I now have details of some of the related events. The BIFF 2013 Launch Party tonight, Friday, April 12th, and the Wrap Party on Thursday, April 18th, will both take place at Margarita’s Grill on Bermudiana Road from 9pm till late. This is a great opportunity to rub shoulders with visiting film directors and actors, the jury, the overseas film media and other movie industry movers and shakers, with no cover charge for either evening. Margarita’s Grill will also perform the role of official Festival Lounge for BIFF 2013 as well as the venue for four free lunchtime panel discussions next week. From 5pm until late on weekdays and 10pm until late on Saturday, cinema-goers will be able to mingle, unwind and talk films while enjoying a full bar with drink specials, bites served until 10pm on weekdays, and a nightly raffle, with a grand draw at the Wrap Party with prizes including champagne, rum and an evening at Fourways Inn. The lunchtime panel discussions will be from 12.30pm until 2pm and are open to the public. On Monday, April 15th, you can get the inside scoop on impressing and capitalising on the international film media at Start Spreading the News and the experts at Doctor Doc, will show you how to make and market a documentary film on Tuesday, April 16th. Explore the importance of selecting a good location for a film and its implications for making and marketing the film at On Location on Wednesday, April 17th and, finally, visiting short filmmakers will share the tricks of their trade at Short But Sweet on Thursday, April 18th. Since MEF Group is a sponsor of BIFF 2013, you can receive a 10% discount on food and drink at La Trattoria, L’Oriental and Little Venice during festival week upon production of a BIFF ticket. Tickets are available from www.pTix.bm.
Gosling’s are giving you the chance to taste some of California’s best wines on Tuesday, April 16th. Patrick Burke from Service Innovations Inc. will be welcomed back to Bermuda as host and the tasting at Gosling’s Wine Cellar will include brand new wines as well as new vintage arrivals from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. The cost is $49 per person and you can secure your spot by RSVP’ing to Annilee McBeath at ambeath@goslings.com or 298-7318.
The next edition of the BEPRO Lunch ‘N’ Learn Series will be on the topic of Your Rights in the Workplace on Tuesday, April 23rd at the Chamber of Commerce. From 12 noon until 1pm, attendees will learn about their basic rights within the workplace and the relevant legislation as it pertains to them. Expert guest speakers include Nelleke Hollis (Amnesty International Bermuda), Sarah Clifford (Human Rights Commission), Bruce Lines (Department of Labour & Training), and Kyle Masters (Trott & Duncan). This event is free for members or $10 for non-members and light lunch will be provided. There are limited spaces available but you can secure your spot by RSVP’ing to vwheatley@bcc.bm.
Several good causes are in line to benefit from the CMS 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, April 28th. This will begin at 8.30am and will begin and end at Bernard Park.
