Morning Ladies and Gents!

 

Hope you’re all enjoying the week so far!  If you’re at a loose end tomorrow night, please feel free to come and check out my appalling bartending skills at The Reefs tomorrow night from 7pm until 9pm.  This is part of their Guest Bartender Series and $1 from each drink sold will benefit the Sunshine League so it’s a good excuse to have a poorly-made cocktail (just  kidding, their professional bartender will be on-hand to make sure I don’t mess up too much) and a beautiful view for a good cause.  Hope to see some of you there!  Here is the latest rundown on what else is happening in Bermuda:

 

Ana Luna Glow Worm (448x336)

Ever wanted to see some worms get down and dirty?  Then you’re in luck as Ana Luna are offering a family-friendly sunset cruise followed by a viewing of bioluminescent Glow Worms tonight, Wednesday, June 26th.  The boat will sail from Grotto Bay’s dock at 7.30pm and after sunset you can witness the glow-in-the-dark mating ritual of these unusual creatures, performed two and three days after the full moon during the warmer months.  The cost is $65 per person and space is limited.  For more information, or to reserve, contact ana-luna-adventures@hotmail.com.

 

Tomorrows Voices (346x448)

Tomorrow’s Voices, Bermuda’s Autism Early Intervention Centre are hosting the third workshop in their year-long Training Institute tonight, Wednesday, June 26th.  Changing Behaviour: The reasons why behaviour occurs and how we can deal with it will be facilitated by Tomorrow’s Voices Senior Therapists, Ms. Emma Martin, BCBA, M.Ed and Ms. Natasha Pedro-Petty, M.A., from 6pm until 8pm in the Sunshine League Building at 27 King Street.   If you are interested in understanding more about the functions of behavior as well as how to avoid, decrease or increase a behavior then this will be a very useful seminar for you.The cost is $25 and participants will receive professional Development Certificates for attending. Amanda Temple

A new photography exhibition is opening at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art on Thursday, June 27th.  Artist Amanda Temple is exhibiting her new works inspired by Wabi Sabi,  the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and the opening reception will run from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.   The show is the result of ten months of hard work and much experimenting and will stay open until July 17th.  For more details, see www.BermudaMasterworks.com.

 

 

Aja Monet

Poet Aja Monet is returning to Bermuda for her first full show on Thursday, June 27th at Chewstick.  Doors open at 7pm, and the show starts at 8pm, when Aja will perform alongside local poets Ron Lightbourne, Yesha Townsend and the ChewSLAM Teen Poetry group.  Entry is $15, or $10 for Chewstick Members or participants attending the Summer Retreat on Paget Island.  The event will also be streamed live on www.chewstick.org.  In addition to the show, Aja will also be hosting an Advanced Poetry Workshop on Sunday, June 30th.  This will be from 6pm unti 8pm at Chewstick, at a cost of $20.  For more information, contact 292-2439, info@chewstsick.org or visit www.chewstick.org.

 

Flanagans Onions Booze Cruise

It’s that time of year again when Flanagans Onions F.C. (the team formerly known as M.R. Onions F.C.) bring us some swigging and sailing shenanigans at their Summer Booze Cruise on Friday, June 28th.  The boat departs Albuoys Point at 7pm, returning at 10pm and includes a live DJ and open bar.  Tickets are $50 and available in advance from markydunlop@hotmail.com or steven_upton_001@hotmail.com, or you can pay at the boat.

 

 

Family Movie Nights

The Evangelical Church of Bermuda are hosting a series of free monthly Family Movie Nights Under the Stars on the last Friday of each month throughout the summer.  They invite you to bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy the screening on their giant 13ft outdoor screen with the first being Flywheel on June 28th, then WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) on July 26th, Unconditional on August 30th, and Foolishness at their Special Youth Night, a little earlier in the month on September 20th.  The movies start when the sun goes down at 8.45pm but you are invited to come earlier for the kids fun castle and free refreshments.  For more information, contact office@ecb.bm.  In the case of inclement weather, check their website at www.evengelicalchurchbermuda.com for updates.

 

 

Canada Night at Hog Penny

Whether you’ll a full-blooded Canuck, or just want to celebrate Canada Day Weekend, Hog Penny invite you to their Annual Canada Night Party on Friday, June 28th.  Host Will Black promises an interactive show of all Canadian music, all night long from 10pm, including tunes from the Tragically Hip, Tom Cochrane, Rush, Bryan Adams, Nickelback, Great Big Sea, Gordon Lightfoot, Blue Rodeo, Barenaked Ladies and more.  This event is sponsored by the Association of Canadians in Bermuda. and all nationalities are welcome to enjoy the music and Canadian beer (Molson Canadian and Moosehead) on ice.

 

 

Daisy Dukes

Ladies, dig out those short shorts as Tigress Entertainment is hosting a Daisy Dukes Party at Margarita’s Grill on Friday, June 28th.  As well as Best Dressed and Pole Dance Competitions, there will also be music by Y.G.S. and drink specials on Three Olives Vodka from 10pm until 3am.  Advance Tickets are $15 and are available from Kit N’ Caboodle and Secrets.

 

 

 

 

Venetian Cruising for the Individual

The ultimate waterfront dining view will be available on Saturday, June 29th as the Venetian yacht is hosting a Dinner Cruise. The evening will include a gourmet dinner with wine, a welcome glass of prosecco and a dessert buffet at a cost of $195 per person.  There are three tables of eight available and you can book a maximum of one table or just book two individuals seats at a table to mix and mingle.   The boat will depart Albuoy’s Point at 6.30pm, returning at 10.30pm.   For more details, or to reserve, contact info@venetian.bm or 704-3000.

 

 

Well-known St George’s artist, Emma Ingham was given an old bell when she lived in an old chapel in St. David’s and she has kindly donated this bell to St Peter’s.  Bermuda’s new Bishop, the Rt Rev Nicholas Dill will perform a Blessing and Naming of the new bell on Sunday, June 30th at 4pm.  Following the service, the Friends of St Peter’s Church will host a Reception in the Historic Churchyard.  For more details, contact 297-2459 or office@stpeters.bm.

Kingdom Chronicles (290x448)

The Evangelical Church of Bermuda on Mission Road invite you to grab your armour and prepare for fun at The Kingdom Chronicles Vacation Bible School.  This is for kids aged between 4 and 12 (completed Pre-school through completed M1) and will run from Sunday, June 30th to Thursday, July 4th from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.  For more information, or to register, contact office@ecb.bm or 236-2294.

 

 

 

 

Masterworks Summer Camp

If your child is aged between 5 and 13 and has an interest in, or an aptitude for art, then they may be interested in the Masterworks Summer Art Camp.  The camp will run the weeks of July 1st until August 30th and will run from 8.30am until 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.  This year, it will focus on work inspired by contemporary artists in the Collection and will encourage learning about art alongside Bermuda’s history and culture. Each week of camp will be filled with different activities and outdoor games in the Botanical Gardens and students will also gather inspiration from the different shows on exhibit in the Rick Faries Gallery.  The cost is $300 per week for members or $330 per week for non-members.  For more details, or to register online, visit www.BermudaMasterworks.com.

 

Library Passport (448x308)

The Youth Library’s Passport Summer Reading Programme aims to encourage Bermuda’s youth to read their way around the world and in a variety of genres.   Reading Passports will be available for pick-up from the Library from July 1st and the programme will run until August 17th.  Young people will then be able to get their passport stamped and earn prizes for books read.  Completed passports make them eligible for the grand prize draw of round trip ticket to any JetBlue destination.   There is also a variety of daily activities, including crafts, sports and games, available at the Youth Library, priced at $3.   For more details, contact 295-0487 or visit www.bnl.bm.

 

Bermuda Society for the Blind Cruise

The Bermuda Society For The Blind invites you to a Summer’s Evening Cruise on Thursday, July 4th.  The M.V. Simply the Best Tina Turner Tribute

Simply the Best, a Tina Turner Tribute concert will be coming to the Poinciana Ballroom at the Fairmont Southampton on Friday, July 5th and Saturday, July 6th.  Doors open at 8pm with a DJ playing until 9pm, when local blues band Bones take the stage.  The main event, Luisa Marshall & Company as Tina Turner, will start at 10.30pm.  General admission is $65, while tickets at a table of 12 are $100 per person or $1000 per group.  Tickets are available from Bermuda Red Cross on 236-8253 or redcrossdevelopment@logic.bm.

 

 

 

BEPRO Bubble and Wine Cruise

Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals (BEPRO) invite you to join them for a social evening at sea at Bubble and Wine, the Annual BEPRO Summer Cruise on Saturday, July 6th.  The M.V. Elizabeth will board at 8.30pm for a 9pm departure from Albuoy’s Point.  As well as an Open Bar and Swizzle Station, you can also enjoy music from D’General and Supatone until the boat returns at midnight.  Member tickets are $50 and available for purchase from the Chamber of Commerce or by calling Kassie 737-2885. ID will be required when purchasing and you will not be able to buy tickets for non – members.  That is not to say that non-members are welcome though as general tickets are available for $60 from Secrets and Kit -N- Caboodle.  Anyone who chooses to join BEPRO by June 28th will be eligible for the  discounted price of $50 for the cruise after paying the full membership fee of $50.

 

Julia Coash

Guest artist Julia Coash presents Rum Jungle, a variety of abstract mixed media artwork based on the lush vegetation of Bermuda and the latest Artist in Residence Exhibit at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.  Julia will be holding a Slideshow and Discussion on her works on Thursday, July 11th from 12.15pm until 1.30pm.  Her works will be later be showcased and available for purchase in the Rick Faries Gallery with the official opening on Friday, July 19th from 5.30pm until 7pm.
