Happy Christmas Eve, Bermuda!

 

Well, it’s that time of year again!  This is my last post of 2014 so I just wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas for tomorrow and a very Happy New Year when it comes! And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, then I hope you enjoy the happy vibes at this time of year. Be good to each other and I hope 2015 is your best year yet!

My next post will be on Wednesday, January 7th. Events can still be added to the calendar, as usual, through the Submit Your Event section in the meantime.

1224 Chiko's Smokey Rub Christmas Charity Event

Chef Chiko will be giving back to the community by providing free meals for those in need at Chiko’s Smokey Rub Christmas Charity Event on Wednesday, December 24th.

This will be from 5.30pm until 9.30pm at Albuoys Point.

1224 Christmas Eve Service at St Peters

Enjoy a traditional candlelight Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols in St Peter’s, the oldest Anglican Church outside the British Isles, at 9pm on Wednesday, December 24th.

This year will include Val Sherwood on guitar. The carol Silent Night was written by an Austrian priest and the accompanying music was composed specifically for guitar.

Event

Pembroke Rotary Club is one of the 4 Rotary Clubs in Bermuda, and is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organisation.

They meet for breakfast every Thursday at 7.15am at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in the City of Hamilton. Each week they have a speaker on many different topics and their club fellowship focuses on raising funds both for Charities within the local communities as well as some causes overseas.

The cost is $20.

Visiting Rotarians or people interested in joining Rotary are welcome to come along. 1224 Happy Hour at The Club

Enjoy great happy hour prices in a comfortable lounge setting or outside on the patio, watching the world go by.

Moët & Chandon invites you to ring in the New Year in an exclusive nightclub and outdoor lounge setting at Champagne New Year 2015.

Off Level NYE ‘15 at City Hall on Wednesday, December 31st is a New Year’s Eve event unlike any other.

Doors open at 10pm and guests will ring in 2015 in dynamic fashion, enjoying an evening in the most spectacular venue which boasts an intricately designed interior perfect for your minutes to midnight moment. Outside allows for two fully stacked bars and plenty of breathing room to allow for dancing and socializing while you take in the flattering state-of-the-art sound system and impressive LED-light installations.

0103 Puppet Making Workshop

The Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) presents a Puppet Making Workshop for children where they will be shown the basics of puppet making and performance on Saturday, January 3rd.

The workshop will run from 10am until 2pm and is led by Alexander Winfield, a Bermudian puppeteer who has lived and worked in the USA, Canada, France and the UK. This is a great fun activity for parents and children to participate in and is suitable for children aged 6 years and older if accompanied by an adult.

The cost is $30 per child for BSoA members and $35 per child for non members. The fee is inclusive of materials and supplies.

0108 Bermuda Triple Challenge Training Alchemy

If you’re thinking of competing in this year’s Bermuda Triple Challenge, then training is key to be successful!

In partnership with Alchemy Fitness and one of their top-trainers, Kacper Kulig, a training programme has been specifically designed to help tackle obstacles of the challenge.

Bermuda Triple Challenge Training begins on Thursday, January 8th. Sessions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm until 7.30pm at the Alchemy Gym, using weights for strengthening and building a strong foundation, and from 10am until 11am on Saturdays at various outdoor locations, such as National Stadium, Victoria Park, Dunes, Elbow Beach, Horseshoe Beach and the Arboretum. Tuesday and Thursday sessions are limited to 15 people, Saturday sessions are limited to 20 people, and all the training will focus on obstacles such as, wall climbs, cargo net and rope climbing, sand bag and weight carrying, running, and much more.

Packages offered are all hour long sessions 3 times a week. The cost is 10 sessions for $200, 16 sessions for $300 or 22 sessions for $400.

0108 Pottery Winter Workshops 2015

Bermuda Clayworks Studios & Gallery in Royal Naval Dockyard are hosting hands on Pottery Workshops, teaching throwing, handbuilding, sculpting and surface treatment.

No experience is needed and the 3 week technique-specific workshops are being offered in January, February and March, taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm until 9pm.

January Handbuilding workshops have already sold out but they will also be held on February 7th, 14th and 21st, and March 6th, 13th and 20th.

Throwing workshops will be held on January 9th, 16th and 23rd, February 5th, 12th and 19th, and March 7th, 14th and 21st.

Sculpting workshops will be held on January 10th, 17th and 24th, February 6th, 13th and 20th, and March 5th, 12th and 19th.

Spaces are limited and the cost is $285 for 3 week course. The price includes clay, glazes, firing, equipment and tutorial. A 50% deposit is due to reserve space and final payment is due 2 weeks prior. Multiple workshops and past students receive 10% discount.

0124 Pembroke Parish Council Great Debate

The Pembroke Parish Council is focused on uniting the Pembroke Community and highlighting the talent of the youths in Pembroke Parish Schools.

The Great Debate will take place on Saturday, January 24th from 2pm until 5pm in the Victor Scott Auditorium.

Community organisations such as KBB and Workforce Development will have information booths and participating schools will be Northlands Primary, Dellwood Middle School, Victor Scott Primary and West Pembroke Primary.

There is no admission fee.

0131 Model and Talent Audition Workshop

PlayList Management, LLC (PLM), a local talent management and development company has joined forces with Scott Cooper, CEO & Founder of Talent Inc. and Evolution Management Company to host a Model and Talent Audition Workshop in the Whitney Institute School Hall on Saturday, January 31st.

Scott wants to see Bermuda’s talent and will offer industry insider advice on audition techniques, finding an agent, and getting into major talent markets including Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles.

Scott discovered supermodel and movie star Brooklyn Decker, new Beverly Hills 90210 actress Jessica Stroup and child star Coy Stewart, from the TBS sitcom, Are We there Yet.  Talent that have been discovered and represented by Evolution have gone on to do projects such as Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Chuck, Royal Pains, Prom Night, The Hills Have Eyes 2, the new Beverly Hills 90210, Just Go With It, Are We There Yet, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover, Glamour, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen Magazine, GQ, Teen Vogue and many more.

Actors, models, singers and dancers of all ages are invited to attend.

Persons under the age of 18 are required to attend with a parent/guardian (no additional cost for parent). This is an opportunity for you to learn from an entertainment industry professional and possibly receive representation.

Two 2-hour audition workshops, will be hosted at 10am and at noon. Only 50 seats are available at each session and tickets are on a first-come-first-served basis.

The cost is $100, or $85 if you avail of the pre-registration discount before December 31st. The registration deadline is January 20th and tickets are available from www.pTix.bm.

Did you know that each chakra has a corresponding psychological and emotional Life Lesson?

The Inner World of Chakras, a cutting-edge workshop on Saturday and Sunday, February 7th and 8th, will take place at My Sereni-Tea. Facilitator Karen Simons MhD PhD, will simplify an esoteric subject and give you the tools to help you stay healthy in body, mind and spirit by understanding the energy psychology of the Chakra System.

This training will empower you to shift your thoughts and feelings about yourself so that you can live more fully, find out the thoughts and feelings that are hidden inside each of your chakras, and help you to understand yourself and others so much more.

The class will run from 9.30am until 11.30am, and then from 12.30pm until 2.30pm on each day.

The cost is $225, due by January 30th, $250 after January 30th. Early birds who pay by January 23rd will pay $200.
