Well, whether you love it or loathe it, we’re now in Love Month in Bermuda!  Don’t worry though, there is much more than just mushy stuff going on  – here’s the latest rundown of what’s coming up on the island:

 

201502 Bermuda Love Month

Good news for visiting love birds as Bermuda Tourism are bringing back their Love Month series of events from February 1st until the 28th.

The weekly activities include a Bermuda Roses and Homes Tour from 11am at the Visitor Information Centre in Hamilton on Mondays and Champagne and Afternoon Affair from 1pm until 3pm at Masterworks on Tuesdays. Sensational Scents will run from 1pm until 5pm at the Bermuda Perfumery on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while those heading to Chaplin Bay can enjoy Sunset Yoga on the Beach from 5.45pm on Tuesdays or Saturdays, and Sunrise Yoga on the Beach on from 7am Wednesdays and Sundays.

The Rum and Romance at Sea Cruise will depart Albuoy’s Point at 2pm on Saturdays, and from 9.30pm, you can relax with a drink in Intermission at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and be serenaded by Robert and Jamie until midnight.

Firstly, you can enjoy a Couples’ Massage at Grotto Bay Beach Resort. Spoil yourself with a soothing treatment, side by side with your special someone on a charming private beach with soft music. Top off this unforgettable experience with chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of Prosecco. This offer is available daily between 10am and 8.30pm. The cost is $345 per couple for a 50 minute massage and reservations can be made by calling 293-8333.

With the Love Match offer, you can serve up a hot game of tennis to get your blood flowing and your game on! Book your time for the adult clinics, time with the pros or just enjoy a game of singles with your significant other or group for a doubles match. This will take place at Elbow Beach Bermuda in Paget between 8.30am and 5.30pm daily. From 6.30pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Saturday, enjoy a Night to Remember as you can indulge in local culinary delights at your personalized Chef’s table with award-winning chef Jean Claude Garzia at Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Paget. This one-of-a-kind experience fuses an island mix with a classic French technique and shares unique stories behind the dishes that will have you falling in love. Aquatic Connection will give you the opportunity to fall in love with our dolphins as you swim alongside these incredible mammals at Dolphin Quest in the National Museum of Bermuda, one of the world’s most extraordinary naval history museums. 0204 Salsa Friends Casual Wednesdays

Latin dancers, here’s your chance to get your weekly salsa fix, as Salsa Friends are bringing back Casual Wednesdays at The Docksider, every Wednesday from February 4th.

Drop-in classes will run from 7pm until 9pm, followed by Social Dancing from 9.30pm until around midnight.

Casual Wednesdays are not just for seasoned dancers though so anyone who wants to spice up their Hump Day with something new and fun, while meeting new people, is welcome.

This is also an opportunity to learn from the pros as the Salsa Friends are are 1st and 2nd place winners of Bermuda So You Think You Can Dance 2013 and 2014, and have taught and performed locally and internationally.

There are weekly class events available from Salsa Friends at Dockies on Wednesdays and Saturdays – please read the class descriptions at the end before attending.

On Wednesdays, Beginner Bachata and Intermediate 1 Bachata will run from 7pm until 8pm, followed by Beginner Salsa and Intermediate 1 Salsa from 8pm to 9pm.

On Saturdays, Intro to Rueda will run from 11am to noon, followed by Intro to Salsa and Intermediate 2 Salsa from noon to 1pm.

Intro to Salsa is a 4 week course aimed at providing the fundamentals for students to move to Beginner Salsa. Students must have completed 4 weeks of Intro to Salsa before moving to Beginner Salsa.

Beginner Bachata is for all new Bachata students, while Intermediate 1 Bachata is their former progressive Bachata class, with entry by permission of the instructor.

Intermediate 1 Salsa is their former progressive Salsa class, by permission of instructor. Intermediate 2 Salsa will progress your dancing forward with more complex patterns, styling, turns and timing, by permission of instructor.

Intro to Rueda is an introduction to Casino de Rueda, for Intermediate-level Salsa students.

Classes are $10 per person per class or $90 for a punch card of 10 classes. There is no cover charge for the social dancing afterwards.

0206 Bob Marley Birthday Celebration

Celebrate the life and music of Bob Marley at Tribe Road Kitchen on the 70th anniversary of his birth on Friday February 6th.

Doors open at 9pm and the Dirkistan Freedom Fighters will be playing Marley and Marley-inspired music all night long

Admission is $20 with part proceeds going to The Chewstick Foundation.

A great event for Bob Marley fans, Veterans In Action presents Legend: The 4th Annual Bob Marley Tribute Concert at the BAA Gymnasium on Saturday, February 7th.

Gates open at 8.30pm with showtime at 10pm. Headliners, direct from Jamaica and performing live, will be Junior Reid (singing hits like One Blood, Foreign Mind, Same Boat, Out Deh and many more) and Yami Bolo (singing hits like Isn’t She Lovely, Suzana, and many more). There will also be music by Juggling J and 3 The Hard Way.

Another opportunity to trip the light fantastic as Salsa Friends take over The Grand every Saturday night from February 7th.

The fun at Grand Salsa Saturdays starts at 10pm and goes until late, with no cover charge. Located at the corner of Church and Parliament Streets, The Grand has a spacious new dance floor, and amazing bar prices.

Don’t know the moves? Then why not learn from the pros as Salsa Friends offer drop-in classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Dockies.

0209 BUEI Explorer Camps

Let your kids dive into BUEI’s fun, interactive Explorer Camps this half-term and spring break. Children aged 7 to 13 are sure to have a great time at these popular camps while learning cool stuff about the ocean.

The first camp, Dabble in Sea Myths, will run from Monday, February 9th until Friday, February 13th. Dabble in Frozen Seas will run from Monday, February 16th until Friday, February 20th, followed by Dabble in the Deep I from Monday, March 30th until Friday, April 2nd, and then Dabble in Prehistoric Seas from Monday, April 6th until Friday, April 10th.

Camp hours are 9am until 3pm, for $250, with after-camp supervision until 5pm, if required, The only exception is Dabble in the Deep I, which costs $200 and $260 with after-camp supervision.

Support Bermuda Red Cross while enjoying a fun evening out to see one of the year’s most anticipated movies.

The Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Premiere Fundraiser will be on Friday, February 13th with two movie times at 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

There will also be a pre-party from 5pm until 7.30pm on the 1st floor of the Craig Appin House, 8 Wesley Street Hamilton, which will be known as Christian’s Private Office for one night only.

Tickets are $50 per person which include drinks and nibbles at the pre-party and the movie screening at Speciality Cinema.

Support the home team while sampling some wines from Australian and New Zealand at the Bermuda Women’s National Volleyball Team’s Wine Tasting event on Friday, February 13th.

This will take place at Gosling’s Wine Cellar from 6pm until 8pm. Funds raised will go towards the team’s participation in the NatWest Island Games in Jersey this year.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invite you to their Valentine’s Social Wine Tasting Event on Saturday, February 14th

0214 Somerset Brigade Band Festival of Music

Under the distinguished patronage of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Somerset Brigade Band, the Somerset Brigade Band, celebrating its 85th Anniversary, proudly presents its Festival of Music 2015 on Saturday, February 14th.

This will take place from 7.30pm at St. James Church in Sandys, with performers including The North Village Community Band, vocal soloist Chantelle Berkeley, soprano saxophonist Michael Taylor, and saxophonist Desmond Smith.

Admission is $20 and tickets are available from Band members or at the door.

Mount Saint Agnes Academy is celebrating their 125th birthday with a Gala Celebration and all are welcome to come join in the fun at Cafe Lido, Elbow Beach on Saturday, February 28th.

The evening starts with cocktails from 6.30pm, followed by dinner at 7.30pm and dancing until midnight. Dress is semi-formal and there is a Silent Auction.

Singles, doubles and groups are welcome. There are tables of 10, so if you would like to sit with someone , let them know, as there will be a prearranged seating chart. Also, they ask that you advise of any special dietary needs.

Tickets are $135 and includes a complimentary drink during cocktails, dinner and dancing.

The March edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Un été en Provence at 8pm on Tuesday, March 10th.

Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French movie with English subtitles tells the story of Leah, Adrien and Theo, who go on holiday in Provence with their grandparents. In addition to being disappointed not to stay in Paris with their friends during the summer, they face the wrath of their grandfather they have never met and who is not very happy to see them land in his country paradise with their grim attitude and their boorish ways. Gradually, everyone learns to live with the other. Leah meets a handsome cowboy that makes her live countless new experiences and Adrien has fantasies about the sister of the latter, a mature woman, ice cream vendor …

0403 Bermuda Combat Club MMA Retreat with Mark Hominick

Ever dreamed of sparring with a professional cage-fighter? Or just want to get MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Fit?

From Friday, April 3rd until Sunday, April 5th, Bermuda Combat Club will welcome UFC fighter and former TKO Featherweight Champion, Mark Hominick for their inaugural MMA Retreat Weekend. The weekend will include a variety of exciting events for fighters, fight-fans and fitness enthusiasts alike.

On Friday, April 3rd, the event will kick off with Training Session 1, focussing on Striking at Beyond Fitness Bermuda from 6pm until 9pm. Afterwards, from 10pm until 1am, fans will have the opportunity to hang out with Mark Hominick and have autographs.

On Saturday, April 4th, Training Session 2 will focus on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Wrestling from 1pm until 4pm. From 8pm until 11pm, you will have a unique opportunity to watch UFC live on Fox Sports 1 with the pro, Mark Hominick, in attendance.

On Sunday, April 5th, there will be a bonus beach training session at Horseshoe from 8am until 10am. From 1pm until 4pm, Training Session 3 will be 3 hours of MMA.

The cost for individual Training Sessions 1, 2 or 3 are $180 for early bird who book their tickets before March 2nd or $200 afterwards.

Special Event 1: Hangout with Mark Hominick will cost $35 in advance, more at the door. Special Event 2: Watch UFC on Fox with Mark Hominick will also cost $35 in advance, more at the door. The Special Event Package, which includes both, costs $55 in advance, more at the door.

The Platinum Package is the ultimate experience and includes 11 hours of training with a Pro (all 3 training sessions and the bonus beach MMA conditioning session) as well as entry to both special events. The cost for this is $450 for early birds, or $500 after March 2nd.

0411 Zoom Around The Sound

Join in the fun while raising some funds at the Bermuda Zoological Society’s 2015 Zoom Around the Sound on Saturday, April 11th.

This is BZS’s annual 7.2 mile fun run/walk/ride around Harrington Sound. All funds benefit programmes at the Bermuda Zoological Society and this event is sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s and Butterfield & Vallis. After a Jazzercise Warm-up with Valentina at 8.30am, cyclists will start at 8.45am, runners at 8.55am and walkers at 9am.

The entry fee is $20 and the deadline to register is noon on Friday, April 10th. The first 700 participants receive an event t-shirt and goody bag.

BUEI invite you to join them for a fun and sophisticated evening raising funds for education at their 2nd Annual Underwater Extravaganza on Saturday, April 25th.

The evening will begin with cocktails at 7pm in BUEI’s upper lobby followed by a fabulous sit-down dinner at the Harbourfront. Dance the night away to music by The Big Chill while you bid on spectacular Silent Auction prizes. The dress is Undersea Elegance, so think sequins, scales and mermaid tails!

Tickets are $275 each and all proceeds raised go towards BUEI’s 2015 Education Campaign.
