March 4th, 2015: Bermuda Events Update

Happy March, Boys and Girls!

NTDIB Spring Forward

Longer sunny days are almost here – don’t forget to Spring Forward this Sunday!  Although, saying that, I don’t remember the last time I actually had to manually change the time on anything since all my devices seem to update automatically now.  If you are lucky enough to have a proper clock or watch, don’t forget to wind it on – for the rest of us, let’s just be vaguely aware that there has been a time change and enjoy the extra sunlight.

Lots of things are going on in Bermuda in the Spring so let’s get down to it:

0306 Startup Weekend Inspire eBusiness

Got a killer idea for a new business? Then you may be interested in finding out more about Startup Weekend Bermuda: Inspire eBusiness which will take place at Mount Saint Agnes Academy from 6.30pm on Friday, March 6th.

This is part of a the global initiative, Startup Weekend, which happens throughout the world just about every weekend. All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Attendees vote on their favorite ideas and form teams around them. Then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

The cost is $50 for students aged 15 and older, or $75 for adults. Tickets are available from www.inspireebusiness.bm or http://www.up.co/communities/bermuda/startup-weekend/5529.

For more information, contact info@inspireebusiness.bm or BEDC at 292-5570.

0308 BPW Brunch

The Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda (BPW Bermuda) will celebrate International Women’s Day with a Brunch on Sunday, March 8th.

The brunch will take place from noon at Coral Beach Club. For years, women have sought to strike that elusive work life balance and at the brunch, guest speakers Julia Pitt and Catherine Burns will discuss how “having it all”, can affect a woman’s health.

BPW Bermuda is an organisation that assists women to develop professionally and empowers women to assume leadership roles in their community. Each year, their organisation celebrates International Women’s Day and the strides that women have made and make the world over. Since recent discussions within the club’s membership raised the issue of whether having it all is truly worth it, the Executive Committee of BPW Bermuda figured that hosting an event of this nature on this particular date would be a very fitting way to broaden the discussion.

Space is limited to 40 people and BPW Bermuda anticipates that this event will sell out so interested attendees should register early. The deadline for payment is March 6th.

The cost is $45 for BPW Members or $50 for non-BPW Members.

For more information, or to RSVP, contact bpwabermuda@yahoo.com.
