Now that April is almost at an end, the Bermuda calendar is really starting to fill up with lots of summer events – here is the latest update on what’s happening:
Doors and Windows, a members’ juried show featuring original works of art by local artists, opened at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard on Sunday, April 26th from 3.30pm until 5.30pm.
The show will remain open until May 29th and admission is free. The Arts Centre is open from 11am until 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals (BEPRO) will be hosting an America’s Cup Q&A Lunch and Learn at Bermuda Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, April 30th.
From noon until 1pm, guest speaker and chairman of ACBDA Ltd., Peter Durhager will share what hosting the America’s Cup 2017 means for Bermuda.
A light lunch will be provided and the event is free for BEPRO members, $10 for non-members.

April 30th is International Jazz Day and Bermuda will join the rest of the world in celebrating this revered art form. As part of the celebrations, International Jazz Day Bermystyle will place an honour on Clarence “Tootsie” Bean on Thursday, April 30th.
The festivities will begin at 12.30pm with a Proclamation on the steps of City Hall. A Jazz Supper will then follow at the Spinning Wheel from 6.30pm.
Tickets are $75 for the dinner and show package, $30 for the show only, and are available from www.BDAtix.com and Pianos Plus.
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, a Fairmont managed hotel, will once again host Marina Nights, which will return for the 2015 season on Friday, May 1st.
Launched last year, Marina Nights is open to the public and will take place at the hotel’s marina on Friday nights from 5pm until 9pm.
Throughout the evening, patrons can enjoy the spectacular views of Hamilton Harbour while relaxing along the dock on chic patio furniture. DJ entertainment will be provided.
After 9pm, dinner will be available from the 1609 menu and served on the dock.
VIP seating and bottle service is available with a $500 minimum spend on food and beverage. Marina Nights will operate weekly into September.

There are four new exhibits opening on Friday, May 1st at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall.
The Onions Gallery will feature the 2015 Heritage Month Spring Members Show. Hosted in collaboration with the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs, this year’s theme is Atlantic Garden. Members of the BSoA have been invited to submit works around this theme and their pieces will be shown over Heritage Month.
Edinburgh Gallery will be showcasing Bermuda’s connection to, and its influence on the fledgling colony of Virginia. Wynne Colley has made a huge commitment to the history of Bermuda and the outside world specifically the Williamsburg and Bermuda connection. She has thoughtfully created a series of work celebrating the social and cultural heritage between Bermuda and Virginia.
Craft Show will be on display in Studio A. The Department of Community & Cultural Affairs will feature a series of unique crafts made by seniors. Works will include various mediums such as crotchet, carpentry, textiles and basket weaving.
Labors of Love will be showcased in Studio B. Patricia Kirby is a well known Canadian artist whom has traveled and made work in Bermuda. She will be showing a selection of work made with graphic pencil, watercolour and acrylic depicting landscapes and birds.
The opening receptions will be from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, May 1st. The exhibits will run until Wednesday, May 20th.

Canadian artist and teacher Patricia Kirby is hosting an Insight into Building a Better Image Workshop at Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) on Saturday, May 2nd.
Running from 10am until 2pm, a meaningful insight will be demonstrated on how to better “see” what you as the artist need. Helpful tips will be taught to the participants showing them how to adjust their way of viewing their surroundings. Simple tools will be taught to help integrate shapes and forms into the compositions so the artist can capture subjects in a better manner.
Insight from the workshop will prove itself by the end of the session with a positive and encouraging result. This course will be an introduction to the following course on May 23rd.
The cost is $90 per student for members or $100 for non-members.

Where are you going to watch the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight? Bermuda Women’s Rugby invite you to watch the Fight of the Century with them on the big screen at Pier 6 on Saturday, May 2nd.
This will be a fundraiser for the Bermuda Women’s National Team. Doors will open at 8pm and show the undercard fights before the title fight.
General Admission is $20 per person. Tables are $300 for 6 people, including 2 drink tickets and food for each person. VIP Booths seat 10 people, including 4 drink tickets and food for each person, at a cost of $750.

From 9pm, this will be shown on the big 8 foot screen, and you are encouraged to arrive early to get seated.

Hamilton Rotary Club is one of the 4 Rotary Clubs in Bermuda, and is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organisation.
They meet for lunch with interesting speakers every Tuesday from 12.30pm until 1.45pm at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Pomander Road in Paget.
The cost is $30 for members and $28 for non-members.

The May edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Les Garçons et Guillaume, à Table (Me, myself and Mum) at 8pm on Tuesday, May 12th.
Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French movie with English subtitles tells the story of Mrs. Gallienne, a rather temperamental upper middle-class lady, who has three children, two of whom she considers as her sons and another she calls Guillaume. Logically indeed, the latter teenage creature does not picture himself as a boy, rather as a girl or at best as a homosexual. But how can a mother act in such an objectionable way? And why? Through a series of painful experiences Guillaume will discover little by little who he is actually and will manage to break free from her pernicious influence…

The Bermuda Insurance Institute, in partnership with Bermuda Industry Organizations, invite you to attend the annual Bermuda Insurance Industry Awards in the HabourView Ballroom at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Thursday, May 14th.
The event will begin at 6pm with a red carpet entrance to the HarbourView Ballroom, where they will be recognizing individuals and companies that have made significant contributions in 2014. These categories include: Young Industry Leader of the Year, Industry Leader of the Year, Top Corporate Sponsors, and the Corporate Social Responsibility Award. Dress code is Business Attire.

Bermuda’s hottest and coolest evening, the Big Chill is returning to Sea Breeze from Friday, May 15th.
Running from 6pm until 11pm, you can enjoy the outdoor chill out sounds of the Ibiza summertime, featuring cool deep house beats from DJ Felix Tod, acoustic guitar from Tony Brannon and vocals from Kassie Caines.

Canadian artist and teacher Patricia Kirby is hosting a workshop on Capturing the Beauty of Birds at Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) on Saturday, May 23rd.
Running from 10am until 2pm, this workshop will assist artists with creating more accurate anatomical coverage of birds using the simplest of ways to paint them. Students will learn basic bird anatomy so as to understand how birds “work” and will be taught how to create colours, shades and applications that are often found in Atlantic and North American species.
Students will have the opportunity to start works from reference materials and complete the session

The Alliance Française des Bermudes invites you to their Concert d’Antan, a Classical Baroque Concert at Verdmont Historic Home on Friday, May 29th.
This candlelight musical evening will celebrate the music of Bach, Händel, Corelli, Muffat, Gounod and Rameau, with Anne Robert and Laure Morabito on violin and harpsichord.
The evening will begin with a welcome drink at 7.30pm, followed by the concert at 8pm. After the concert, there will be a garden reception with champagne and petits fours.

Grab two of your favourite ace girls for You Go Girl, an all-female relay on Sunday, June 7th.
Starting at 8.30am on Front Street, this relay of 3 legs of 2K, is organised as a train where the first person does all 3 legs or 6K, the second person does 2 legs or 4K, and the third person does 2K. As a train, at the end of each Leg, the next person joins their team member, so that at the end of all legs, all Team Members must finish together.
Competitive divisions include Family (mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, cousins, including in-laws), Corporate (all members of the same company or organisation), Masters (all members 40 and over), 6K Runners (all 3 participants will run 6K together), Competitive Walkers (all members walk, no running allowed), and Open (none of these categories).
Entry fees are $30 per person/$90 per team for Competitive Teams, $20 per person/$60 per team for Non-competitive Teams, and $15 for Juniors aged 7 and up.
All participants are eligible for numerous draw prizes and part Proceeds of the entry fee, plus all monies donated separately on-line, will be donated to the Women’s Resource Centre. Registration is available until Friday, June 5th.
