0112 Lionfish Permit Session

Lionfish, an invasive predatory fish from the Indo-Pacific, have found their way to Bermuda and could have a very negative effect on our marine environment.  You are invited to join in the cull and help protect our local species at the Lionfish Permit Session on Thursday, January 14th.

From 6pm at BUEI, this programme provides Bermuda residents over 16 years of age with the opportunity to receive a special permit allowing them to hunt lionfish in situations prohibited under the laws that regulate spearfishing. Specifically, that allows permit holders to hunt lionfish while using SCUBA, within one mile of shore, and on wrecks and other protected sites. At the end of the course, you will receive a lionfish diving flag and permit/tag.

If you register by January 12th, you will get your permit without delay at the session. If you register later or walk-in, which you are welcome to do, there will be a delay before your permit is approved.

The permit costs $20, but is free to renew after you submit a catch report each year.

Attendees must register in advance by adding yourself to the guest list on the Facebook event page or by sending your phone number and email address to permits@oceansupport.org.

For more information, visit www.Lionfish.bm.
