Today is definitely meant for some celtic-style celebration – not only is today Robert Burns Day, but it is also officially Irish Coffee Day!  If your boss questions why you are adding booze to your morning cup of joe, just tell them that I said it’s okay…

As part of their week-long Science Week event, Bermuda College will round out the week’s events with the ever-popular Live, Love, Eat Culinary Arts Interactive Instructional and Sampling Demonstration on Thursday, January 26th

From 6.30pm in the Student Hall Cafeteria, Chef Teneika Eve and Culinary Students will present a delectable 4-course meal preparation, sampling, and recipe takeaways.

This event is free and open to the public.

Back at their new location at 135 Front Street (above Arnold’s on Front Street). The Black Collective Winter Market will return on Saturday, January 21st.

The Black Collective recognises that many in our community are struggling in these difficult financial times. The objective of the Market is to give local entrepreneurs a venue to sell their products and to give buyers a venue to purchase quality goods at a reasonable price.

Each Saturday from 10am until 6pm, you can find a diverse range of products and businesses, from clothing, local artist, local authors, health supplies, children’s activities, services for your family and entertainment.  Vendors and shoppers alike are encouraged to visit.

The Market will run weekly until March 25th.

Are you feeling heavy, burdened, hopeless? Do you need a lift? Do you believe in the power of prayer?  If so, then the First Church of God on Angle Street will open its doors to the public for Week of Prayer until Friday, January 27th.

From 5.30pm until 7pm each evening, you can come for 5 mins, 10 mins, or an hour and pray, seek, turn, based on 2 Chronicles 7:14.  You are invited to bring your prayer requests and prayer tools.

This is free.

BUEI and the Bermuda Audubon Society present the latest in the series of BUEI Talks, Birds & People in Bermuda by Andrew Dobson on Thursday, January 26th.

From his extensive collection of bird photographs, Andrew will illustrate how birds are embedded in Bermuda’s culture. As well as featuring many of the bird species that appear in Bermuda, he will surprise the audience with the myriad of ways in which birds are part of our daily lives, from the money we use, the places we visit and the names we use.

Andrew Dobson has been a teacher at Warwick Academy, Bermuda for over 27 years, but a keen birdwatcher since he was a boy.  He has a passion for birds and has served on the executive of the Bermuda Audubon Society since 1990 including many terms as President. He has been a regional editor for the journal North American Birds for over 20 years. He is currently serving a second term as President of Birds Caribbean.

The lecture will start in the Tradewinds Auditorium at 7.30pm.  Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are available from 5pm for the sushi bar with Sushi Happy Hour prices on selected sushi and drinks available until 6.30pm.  The full menu will be available from 6pm.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers.  For dinner reservations call 295-4207.

Bermuda National Gallery is reopening to the public and will present the current exhibition, The Power of Art on Friday, January 27th.

Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays, closed on public holidays. The exhibit will run until November 25th.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for BNG members, NARM members, seniors and students.

Learn about the upcoming Startup Weekend and how to be part of the next group of entrepreneurs and industry disruptors at the Startup Weekend Mixer on Friday, January 27th.

From 5.30pm until 7.30pm at Connectech on Cedar Avenue, drinks and refreshments will be served and the early bird registration rate for Startup Weekend will be offered throughout the Mixer.

The main event will run on Saturday from noon until 7pm at Spirit House in Devonshire, and promises to be a highly informational and inspirational day, involving several talks, demonstrations, raw food lunch, and green juice.  Visiting us from Hippocrates Health Institute, West Palm Beach, Florida, Brian and Anna Maria Clement will be focusing on the Power of Nutrition to improve your health and wellbeing. They have been guiding people in the process of reversing and preventing disease and slowing the premature aging process. Vendors will also be present from the raw food community.

BUEI Tech presents Get in Touch with your iPad on Saturday, January 28th.

From 2pm until 4pm, BUEI is once again offering its popular Beginner II iPad classes. This class is for you if you want to learn new things to do with your iPad or still have unanswered questions. Join BUEI’s tech guru, Sam Roberts for a fun and informative session.

Celebrate the weekend with some Live Music by Finny every Saturday.

From 10pm until close each week, local artist Finny (Chris Finsness) will perform at the Hog Penny on vocals and guitar.  He will be joined by Spencer Wood on percussion.

There is no cover charge and this will continue weekly until April 1st.

The Saltus Association’s annual Saltus to Saltus Family 4k Fun Run and Walk for 2017 will take place on Sunday, January 29th.

Starting at 9am from Saltus Cavendish Campus in Devonshire, the Run and Walk will go to Saltus field at St. John’s Road Campus. Timing will be done by Bermuda Timing Systems and Number Pick up will be on Race Day from 8am until 8.45am at Saltus Cavendish Lower Primary Field.

Entry Fees are $15 for Primary and Middle School Students, $20 for Secondary students, $25 for Alumni, and $30 for Adults.  Online registration is available until 5pm on January 27th at www.RunSignup.com.

Heron Bay Primary School will be hosting their Open House for all prospective parents and students on Tuesday, January 31st.

Between 9am and 11am, you are invited to come out and see what makes Heron Bay Primary the perfect school for your child.  You will get the opportunity to have a guided tour, meet the teachers and current students and ask any questions you may have. Traverse the entire yogahour® syllabus comprised of over 200 poses in one weekend at the Darren Rhodes Barefoot Boot Camp on Saturday and Sunday, February 4th and 5th.

Darren regards these 200 poses as an asana-alphabet or practitioner-periodic-table of sorts. In other words, familiarise yourself with these particular poses and you can access all that hatha yoga offers. Via props, modifications, and stages every pose in this syllabus is accessible to the fit beginner: students without any significant limitations or injuries. You are invited to come ready to practice, learn, and play.

Each day will run from 1pm until 5pm at Lucky Elephant Yoga.  Day 1 will comprise of Warm Up, Standing Poses, Supine Poses, Arm Balances, and Cool Down, while Day 2 will have Warm Up, Forward Folds, Twists, Hip Openers, Backbends, and Cool Down.

Do you need somewhere your kids could have fun and be in a safe environment? Camp Core promises to be the place to be during school breaks from Wednesday to Friday, February 15th and 17th.

From 8.30am until 5.30pm each day at Cities of Refuge Ministries on the Second Floor of the Berkeley Cultural Centre, Camp Teacher Crystal Holdipp (published author/Christian Ministry Worker) presents Creation Chronicles for kids aged 4 to 12.

The price of the camp experience is $75 for the week.

Enjoy an opportunity to learn, connect, get inspired, and have fun while appreciating the epic beauty of Bermuda at The Chewstick Foundation’s 2017 Winter Retreat on Ports Island from Friday to Sunday, February 17th to 19th.

Departing from Albuoy’s Point at 6pm on the Friday, the weekend’s activities will include drawing, poetry, creative writing, music, workshops and yoga in the gorgeous setting of our island home, while meeting a bunch of really awesome new people.

Get arty with Apple at an iPad/iPhone Creative Workshop with Theresa Airey on Saturday and Sunday, February 18th and 19th.

From 10am until 5pm each day at Bermuda Society of Arts, this two-day workshop will cover the transferring of images, tips on accessories and apps, taking great pictures and more.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents their latest exhibition, Sharon Wilson & Students, opening to the public on Friday, February 24th.

This exhibit of collaborative work by Sharon Wilson and eight of her students will be showcased in the Rick Faries Gallery.  The medium is mainly charcoal sketch but varies piece to piece.

The official opening reception will be from 5.30pm until 7pm and the exhibit will run until March 22nd.

Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 11am until 4.30pm on Sundays.  Masterworks is closed on public holidays.  General admission is $5, or free for members and children under 12.

Join the global community of entrepreneurs and industry disruptors by registering for Startup Weekend from Friday to Sunday, February 24th to 26th.

Startup Weekend is a non-profit, community building event that brings together entrepreneurs and community members of different backgrounds to pitch ideas, to join teams and develop business concepts in just 54 hours.  You are invited to pitch, join, develop, get expert guidance and win.

Based at Bermuda High School, participants will experience a three day frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, innovation and market validation. The weekend culminates with selected teams demonstrating their business ideas in front of an audience of judges and potential investors for a chance to win valuable prizes that will help them to further develop their idea.

The weekend will run from 5.30pm until 11pm on the Friday, 9am until 11pm on the Saturday, and from 9am until 7.30pm on the Sunday.

Raising funds for two local charities, the International Women’s Club of Bermuda (IWC) presents the opening night of their Annual Art Exhibition on Friday, March 10th.

Each year the members of The International Women’s Club of Bermuda create and donate one-of-a-kind works of art and photographs to be sold at their annual Art Exhibition.

All proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to local charities, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda and Coalition for the Protection of Children.

The opening Gala will take place from 5.30pm until 8pm at The Gallery in the Chubb Building on 17 Woodbourne Avenue.

The exhibit runs until March 24th and The Gallery is open from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, for viewing and purchases.

Direct from Harvard, the legendary Hasty Pudding Theatricals will be returning to Bermuda once again as part of their annual tour to perform their unique brand of student-written theatre with their latest show HPT 169: Casino Evil from Wednesday to Friday, March 15th to 17th.

Showtime is at 8pm nightly at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall and the show is a musical comedy burlesque with a live band, a cast of twelve men, and a ton of fun.  HPT are visit Bermuda as part of their annual tour and this is their 169th production.

Tickets are $20 for Wednesday’s show, $25 for Thursday and $30 for Friday.  Tickets can be purchased from www.BDAtix.bm.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in the Botanical Gardens are once again hosting their Arts for All event from Monday, March 27th until Friday, March 31st.

This free community event offers classes for everyone with a series of classes twice a day, free of charge. The morning sessions will run from 10am until noon, while the afternoon sessions will run from 2pm until 4pm.  Everything from watercolours to 3d crafts will be offered.

Arts for All is a great way for Masterworks to bring the community together as one. Their museum is full of unique treasures worth exploring. Arts for All allows for individuals to learn about Bermuda’s history and culture through art. You are also encouraged to check their website at www.BermudaMasterworks.org to view the schedule for 2017 and register for courses.

You must be registered to attend the classes and each individual is limited to one class.
