Anyone else ready for Spring?  Here are the latest upcoming events in Bermuda, which have been added to he calendar since last week’s edition.

Free and specifically geared towards the Island’s seniors, the Department of E-Commerce will host the third annual Safer Internet Day on Wednesday, February 22nd.

From 10.30am until 1.30pm at Cathedral Hall on Church Street, Safer Internet Day will aim to remind them of the many ways to stay safe online. A light lunch will be served.

Although the use of the Internet and related technologies is increasingly convenient and prolific, so are its dangers. Many scams specifically target senior citizens.

On Safer Internet Day, visitors will interact with professionals from the Cybertips team, the Bermuda Police Service, social media expert Stephanie Lee, and the Bermuda National Library, who, together with major sponsor Clarien, will share tips and tricks on how to safely enjoy the many benefits that technology brings.

Travel back in time and join Wild Herbs n Plants of Bermuda for a cooking demo in a 300 year old kitchen, done in period costume, at Travel Back In The 18th Century With Food on Mondays and Thursdays.

From 11.30am until 1.30pm in St. George’s Historical Society Museum, you can taste the various recipes made back in the 18th Century, incorporated with wild herbs and plants of Bermuda.  This event will continue twice a week until the end of 2017.

The cost is $80 per person and participants must register in advance.

Join Tomorrow’s Voices invite you to join them for their first Workshop for 2017, entitled More Than Just The Two of Us: ABA In Group Settings on Thursday, February 23rd.

Come out to support our students, view their handiwork and place your bids at the Kids in Construction exhibit opening on Saturday, February 25th.

Kids in Construction will display Garden Sheds and Mailboxes, designed and built by local students, and available for sale through an auction.

The exhibit will be located on the lower level of Washington Mall, near the Food Court and Beluga Bar.  The work will be on display from 10am on Saturday, February 25th until 2pm on Friday, March 3rd.  This will be viewable from 10am until 4pm each day.

Returning to Turtle Hill Golf Club for the 7th consecutive year, the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship will be  on Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th.

Running from noon until 5pm on each of the days, the tournament leads up to the Grey Goose® World Par 3 Championship from March 16th to 18th, with the top finishers of the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship invited to play in the Grey Goose® tournament as well.

Turtle Hill Golf Club has partnered with Island Stats to maintain the leader board, and golfers can visit www.islandstats.com to view the standings.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Bermuda Turtle Project.

There is no fee for spectators.

Warwick Academy Jazz Band presents this year’s Gala on Saturday, February 25th,

Starting at 6.30pm at BMDS’ Daylesford Theatre, you are promised a great way to celebrate Mardi Gras and enjoy the immense talent of their students. The ticket price includes a complimentary glass of prosecco, a “strolling dinner” followed by first class entertainment by their student Jazz Band as well as a trio of professional local artists.  There will also be a Silent and Live auction, and a cash bar, with all proceeds going to support the music department.

BUEI Films presents a special screening of the documentary The Messenger, a film by Su Rynard on Sunday, February 26th.

According to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, The Messenger takes a refreshing approach to environmental filmmaking: a 90-minute film that forgoes ominous voiceover in favor of well-spoken scientists juxtaposed with beautiful cinematography.

The film will start in the Tradewinds Auditorium at 5pm.

You are invited to attend a public forum with panel discussion entitled The Bermuda Triangle of Celebrity Chefs Forum on Monday, March 6th.

From 6.30pm in the main lecture theatre G301 at Bermuda College, participating chefs will include Marcus Samuelsson (award winning chef, author and restaurant owner), Dennis McIntosh (executive chef of Moon Palace Resort and President of the Jamaica Chef’s Association), and Keith De Shields (executive chef of the Cambridge Beach Resort and Spa Hotel), with Master of Ceremonies Chef Teneika Eve, Senior Chef Lecturer at Bermuda College.

This event is designed to bring three top chefs from different countries, backgrounds, and culinary philosophies to share their wealth of knowledge with Bermuda’s public.

To start the event each chef will be given a 15 to 20 minute timeframe to discuss their career paths, most interesting learning experiences, role models, favorite cooking dish/s, and something about themselves that not many people know about.

Stage two of the event will involve each chef taking 10 to15 minutes describing at least two of today’s most fascinating culinary trends and discuss which direction they envision the ever-changing culinary industry is heading.

The final stage will involve a question and answer session, which should last for only 30 minutes.

The total duration is expected to be around 90 minutes.

The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society (BMDS) proudly presents its latest production Twelve Angry Men, opening on Thursday, March 9th.

The life of a 19-year-old accused of killing his father has been left in the hands of 12 men and women. But what begins as an open-and-shut case evolves as the jurors are forced to challenge their assumptions and each other.  The show is directed by Owain Johnston-Barnes and produced by Natacha Kneeland.

Showtime is at 8pm each night and the show will run from Thursday, March 9th until Saturday, March 11th and then from Thursday, March 16th until Saturday, March 18th.

The Jewish Community of Bermuda is hosting their second annual fundraising event at the JCB 2017 Purim Wine Tasting Fundraiser on Satuday, March 11th.

From 7pm at Discovery Wines, this will be a special evening of tasting yummy kosher wines from Israel, France, and New Zealand.  This same evening is also the start of Purim, a Jewish holiday that encourages us to drink in celebration of a great Jewish story.

Enjoy spectacular golf at the 2017 Grey Goose® World Par 3 Championship from Friday to Sunday, March 17th to 19th.

This two-day, 36-hole championship golf tournament, will be played at the Turtle Hill Golf Club at Fairmont Southampton from 7.30am until 6pm with the Pro-Am on the Sunday.

As the world’s premier par 3 championship, the 8th consecutive year of the tournament is expected to attract 150 participants from more than 10 countries, including a number of noted professionals, such as Chip Beck, Trish Johnson, Becky Brewerton, Lydia Hall and Chris Langford. In addition, the field will be rounded out by an impressive list of amateur golfers—from Bermuda, the United States, Canada and Europe—vying for titles in the men’s, women’s and senior amateur divisions and their share of the $75,000 (USD) purse. The golf tournament will benefit the Bermuda Sea Turtle Project, the official charity partner of the Turtle Hill Golf Club.

Turtle Hill Golf Club has been recognised by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 5 Par 3 Courses in the World and is a recipient of Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play Golf Award.

As in previous years, the Bermuda Tourism Authority and PGA Canada will continue as partners for this signature golf event in Bermuda. Golf Channel personality Charlie Rymer will also be back as the host and Fairmont Southampton will be hosting all golfers of the tournament in 2017.

The hotel package includes three nights luxury accommodation with a private balcony, daily continental breakfast at Windows on the Sound, and the registration fee for the 2017 Grey Goose® World Par 3 Championship.

The Championship includes a welcome reception at Bacardi Headquarters on the evening of Thursday, March 16th, lunch at the resort’s Italian restaurant Bacci on Tournament Days on Friday and Saturday, March 17th and 18th, the Prize Giving Reception at the 10th Tee on the evening on Saturday, March 18th at Turtle Hill Golf Club, and a Golf Practice Round, complimentary access to the new golf practice area and an amenity bag.

For registered golfers travelling with a non-golfer, Fairmont Southampton is offering a $250 resort credit in lieu of the registration fee that may be used for resort activities including the resort’s restaurants and Willow Stream Spa during the stay.

A great way to connect your kids with the natural world around them, the Bermuda National Trust presents its Annual Children’s Nature Walk at Spittal Pond on Thursday, March 30th.

Spittal Pond is one of Bermuda’s most spectacular open spaces, this 64-acre reserve is part of a necklace of wetlands along the South Shore, providing a diversity of habitats and an amazing variety of birds, especially during the migration seasons. It is Bermuda’s largest and most important bird sanctuary.

Children and guardians will have the opportunity to experience nature first hand on the walk, as well as observe some of our cultural landmarks while they hear fascinating stories from the past. They will be taken along the route by the Trust’s enthusiastic guides stopping at points of interest to learn about biodiversity, habitats, history, geology and conservation from the island’s leading environmental and cultural experts.

This is for parents and children aged between 5 and 12, running from 9.30am until noon, with groups leaving the eastern parking lot every 15 minutes.

The walk takes approximately 90 minutes so you should wear suitable clothes and shoes for rugged terrain.  Light snacks are available and you are invited to bring your own water bottle that they can fill.

The walk is not suitable for dogs, baby prams or very young children. Parking is available in the field behind Harrington Hundreds grocery store.

This event is free and groups of more than three are asked to pre-register.
