The City Food Festival is back for 2018 and, as usual, will be a feast of food and fun, running from Thursday to Sunday, April 12th to 15th.

The first event, the Chocolate and Wine Paring event on Thursday, April 12th speaks for itself – wine accentuates any meal and chocolate is no exception.  Some say it can’t be done, pairing wine with chocolate, but if you choose the right wine to complement the right chocolate it can be a remarkable pairing experience whether you are pairing the sometimes subtle, creamy nuances of a delicate white chocolate or the lively bold tones of dark chocolate with a favorite wine. However, with a bit of flexibility and delicious experimentation, you are sure to find remarkable wine and chocolate pairings that find the balance and seamless synergy of a well-paired union.  This will run from 5.30pm until 7.30pm at Gosling’s Wine Cellar, and ticket holders will go home with a set of wine glasses and chocolate.  Tickets are $99 and available from www.pTix.bm.

The Elyx Experience Dinner will begin at 7pm in Marcus’ Private Dining Room on Friday, April 13th.  Absolut Elyx is the luxury expression of Absolut vodka, the spirit that carved out a niche for itself by always doing things differently. By developing relationships with fellow cultural pioneers, Absolut vodka grew in stature and with its single-minded commitment to quality matched only by its passion for hospitality, it wasn’t long before this little ‘water’ from Sweden became the global icon it is today. Born out of a desire to create a truly luxurious embodiment of this global icon, Elyx is forged from the same DNA as Absolut vodka. The Festival has worked closely with the Hamilton Princess and the chefs from Marcus’ to create the Ultimate Absolut Elyx Experience for ticket holders – a tantalizing 5-course dinner with paired vodka cocktails. A copy of the menu can be found here.  Tickets are $149, inclusive of gratuities, and available from www.pTix.bm.

The Chef’s Table event on Saturday, April 14th will showcase local chefs and their culinary skills as they prepare meals in an intimate setting for their guests. Inspired by current and classic culinary trends from around the world, the Chef’s Table menus are composed of seasonal ingredients and exciting culinary techniques.  Professional chefs from island-wide restaurants will provide hands-on instruction and support as groups work together to craft delicious appetizers. Ticket holders will participate in 5 different food demonstrations and will make their own edible creation alongside the chefs. Settle into the kitchen counter for a communal dining experience while enjoying wine and spirits provided by Goslings. This experience is designed for those who like to cook and discover new recipes.  *Those interested should take note that there are no dietary restrictions at Chef’s Table. There have been no special accommodations for guests who have dietary restrictions – gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, celiac.  This event will take place on the Upper Level of Pier 6, with two seatings available – from 6pm until 7.30pm or from 8pm until 9.30pm.  Tickets are $60 and available at www.pTix.bm.

Just Desserts, Cake Edition will take place on Saturday, April 15th on the Upper Level of Pier 6 from 3pm until 5pm.  Just Desserts is a fun-filled afternoon where you can sip wine, enjoy desserts, listen to music, learn and participate in the art of cake-decorating and socialize with friends. It is a showcase of over-the-top desserts created by pastry artists from bakeries and restaurants throughout Bermuda. The event will feature special guest, Your Cake Diva, seen on the popular Cake Wars. She has made multiple celebrity cakes for rappers, actors and actresses and more. She will lead a cake-decorating workshop where ticket holders can follow along and decorate their own cake (provided and included in ticket price). Your Cake Diva travels around the U.S. sharing her story and teaching other home bakers how to price, decorate and master the business aspect of running a home-based business. She also speaks on how to increase business and achieve much needed work/life balance as an entrepreneur. Just Desserts, Cake Edition will feature plenty of sweet treats to sample.  Tickets are $50 and available from www.pTix.bm.

BUEI Screens presents Submergence on Sunday, April 15th.

James (James McAvoy) is a British agent under the cover of a water engineer, while Danny (Alicia Vikander) is a bio-mathematician working on a deep-sea diving project to explore the origin of life on our planet. On a chance encounter in a remote resort in Normandy where they both prepare for their respective missions, they fall rapidly, and unexpectedly, into each other’s arms and a deliriously wild love affair develops, even though their jobs are destined to separate them. Danny sets off on a perilous quest to dive to the bottom of the ocean. James’s assignment takes him to Somalia, where he is sucked into a geopolitical vortex that puts him in grave danger. Both characters are subject to different kinds of isolation as they pine for each other; their determination to reconnect becomes as much an existential journey as a love story.  This movie has a running time of 112 minutes.

The film begins at 5.15pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are required.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers. Tickets are $15 each, $12 for students, and are non-refundable within 24 hours of the event.

King will lead the discussion with crew members giving their perspectives on some of the more memorable, sometimes tense, moments on the water while the Island, itself, was gearing up for the start of Heroes weekend. Learn just how important the sea, itself, is when planning and executing such a swim and find out what motivates someone to want to swim for 21 hours straight.

The lecture begins at 7.30pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event.  Reservations are required.  Please mention the lecture when booking to avail of the discount and note that it cannot be combined with any other special offers.
