Just over a week before we can all get back in the water – who’s excited?!
Here is your weekly update with all the latest Bermuda events to be added to the network of calendars since last week’s post. As always, be sure to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post for a full listing of all upcoming Bermuda events, including those previously covered in earlier posts.
Dress up and step out as the Hamilton Princess are offering a special Royal Afternoon Tea to celebrate the upcoming Royal Wedding.
From 3pm until 5pm in Crown and Anchor, their tea menu will have a Royal theme so they encourage you to don a hat and come in style.
This will be available daily until Sunday, May 20th, and then every Saturday and Sunday until July 1st.
The cost is $55, or $75 to include a glass of Champagne, plus gratuities. Reservations are required.

Bermuda National Gallery has reopened to the public and currently has five ongoing exhibits.
Firstly is the 2018 Bermuda Biennial: What We Share. Now in its thirteenth iteration, the Bermuda Biennial is a critical platform for the contemporary art community in Bermuda and continues to showcase the dynamism and creativity of local artists and international artists living on the island. Sponsored by Bacardi Limited.
Also showcased is Shepard Fairey: Rebel with a Cause. Shepard Fairey is described as a “street artist” whose artwork advocates for the protection of human rights, from the abuse of political power and militarism to the support for minorities and gender equity. Artworks on loan from The Green Family.
The Power of Art: Land and Sea: Fragile Treasures. They celebrate the Island’s natural beauty in this selection of paintings, all of which was generously donated by Chairman Emeritus David L. White, OBE. Mr. White made it a life-long project to collect art, with most pieces having the subject matter of the Island’s beauty. These artworks remind us of a time that is now long gone.
Peter Woolcock: A New Bestiary for Children is a view of BNG Children’s Gallery featuring the artwork of Peter Woolcock.
You can also visit and enjoy BNG Sculptures located in Queen Elizabeth Park (formerly known as Par-la-Ville Park) in the City of Hamilton.
Gallery opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays, closed on public holidays.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for BNG members, NARM members, seniors and students.

Enjoy upscale grilled fare, paired with signature rum cocktails, at Grillin’ with Gosling’s at the Dock on Thursdays, starting May 17th.
From 5pm, you can enjoy a family style menu, inclusive of one of the Gosling’s theme cocktails. Brand ambassador Andrew Holmes will be on site for a meet and greet, and to also give guests an education of Goslings’ rums along with other spirits. The full menu can be viewed here.
The cost is $59 per person and this event will continue weekly throughout the summer.

Bermuda National Gallery presents Bermuda Philharmonic featuring Cellist Kate Kayaian on Thursday, May 17th.
The reception will begin at 6.30pm on the second floor of City Hall. From 7.30pm, you can hear local musicians play Haydn, Bach and Bartók at this concert led by Bermuda-based violinist Alison Black.
At the performance, cellist Kate Kayaian will solo during Haydn’s Cello Concerto No 1. Other pieces include excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 3 and Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances.
Tickets are $40 for BNG Members and $50 for general admission.

BUEI Screens presents Beast on Sunday, May 20th.
Moll (Jessie Buckley) is 27 and still living at home, stifled by the small island community around her and too beholden to her family to break away. When she meets Pascal (Johnny Flynn), a free-spirited stranger, a whole new world opens up to her and she begins to feel alive for the first time, falling madly in love. Finally breaking free from her family, Moll moves in with Pascal to start a new life. But when he is arrested as the key suspect in a series of brutal murders, she is left isolated and afraid. Choosing to stand with him against the suspicions of the community, Moll finds herself forced to make choices that will impact her life forever. This R-rated drama has a running time of 107 minutes.
The film begins at 5.15pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. You can even make a night of it since Harbourfront are offering a 10% discount (food only) to anyone dining there before or after the event. Kick off your weekend a little early with Thursdays at The Loren with DJ Felix from the Big Chill, starting on Thursday, May 24th.
From 6pm until 9pm on The Loren’s Pool Deck, you can enjoy drink specials along with good music and ocean views.
There is no cover charge and this will continue weekly throughout the summer.

Kicking off for the summer, the UT7 Football Series will run every Tuesday and Thursday.
The UT7 Football Series allows players from ages 15 and up, both local and overseas based, to continue with their passion throughout the summer, training on the best surfaces that Bermuda has to offer, coached by the most highly qualified coaches that Bermuda has to offer, getting together in a true community of footballers taking on the challenges of the modern game, step by step, in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
It will run from 7pm until 8.30pm at National Sports Centre every Tuesday and Thursday until Thursday, July 5th.
The cost of registration is $50, which covers the entire 2 months, and you can register online at www.ut7football.com.

Bermuda National Gallery presents Alban Bassuet: Defining New Platforms of Presentation for the Visual and Performing Arts on Wednesday, May 30th.
The performing and visual/installation arts are undergoing significant changes challenging the traditional relationship between audience/viewers and artworks. The author presents, in a historical context, how music and arts are expanding beyond the bounds of concert halls or museums, from his 20-year experience designing major arts and culture facilities and installations.
Alban Bassuet is an internationally recognized venue and installation designer, planner and acoustician, in the arts and culture built environment. Alban was the director of the recenlty opened 10,000-acres Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana, awarded as the 2017 North American Museum of the Year, seen today as the new destination for the arts and music in America, where he led the new facility’s planning, design and programming. Alban also worked for 15 years at the design and engineering firm Arup in New York, and created the venue concepts of some of the most innovative venues in the world such as the new Greek National Opera House, Le Rosey Concert Hall in Switzerland or the Taipei Asian Pop Music Venue in Taiwan. Pushing the boundaries of representation of the arts, his collaborations include artists such as James Turrell, Ensamble Studio, Ai Wei Wei, Philip Glass, Mark di Suvero, Patrick Dougherty, or Stephen Vitiello, for installations in rural or urban environments such as the Turbine Hall of the London Tate Modern Museum or the NY-Park Avenue Armory. His new company PresenceLab, commercializes ephemeral venue structures for short-term interventions in urban/industrial or natural contexts.
The reception will begin at 5.30pm on the second floor of City Hall, followed by the presentation at 6pm.

Due to over whelming demand for tables, you can find twice the bargains this month since there will be an extra Peace Lutheran Church Car Boot Sale on Saturday, June 2nd.
As usual, from 9am until 2pm, they will have great bargains in clothing for men, women, children and babies, shoes, toys, household items, plants, DVDs, CDs, jewellery, books, bags and so much more. Their regular monthly sale will still be on June 16th.
