Just to remind you, after this one, there are only two more posts before the end of 2017, so don’t forget to submit any upcoming Christmas and NYE events in Bermuda that you are hosting to the Submit Your Event section as soon as possible so that I can inform the masses!

The last post of 2017 will be on Wednesday, December 20th while the first post of 2018 will be on Wednesday, January 10th.  Events can still be added to the calendar, as usual, through the Submit Your Event section during this period.

Back for a second year, Planning Factory Bermuda is proud to present St. George Skates until Sunday, January 28th, 2018.

Featuring Bermuda’s first synthetic ice rink, this “wintertime” public event will take place in Somers Garden in St. George’s.

The rink will be open to the public from 5pm until 9pm on Fridays, 1pm until 10pm on Saturdays, and from 1pm until 7pm on Sundays, until December 17th.

It will be open from 1pm until 9pm from Monday to Friday, December 18th to 22nd, then from 1pm until 10pm on Saturday, December 23rd.

After being closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the rink will reopen from 1pm until 9pm from Boxing Day on Tuesday, December 26th until Friday, December 29th, and then from 1pm until 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, December 30th  and 31st.  The rink will be closed on New Year’s Day and will then be open from 3pm until 9pm on Saturdays, January 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th, and from 1pm until 7pm on Sundays, January, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.

The cost is $25 for adults and $20 for under 18s, and includes skate hire and a wristband to be on the rink for one hour. Bermuda National Gallery needs your help decorating their Christmas Tree from Friday, December 1st until Thursday, December 21st.

You are invited to bring your ornament anytime during gallery opening hours, which are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

This is free for all children and participants will be eligible for the Best Home-Made Ornament prize.

Bermuda National Gallery in partnership with Human Rights Commission invites the community to commemorate the 2017 United Nations Human Rights Day on Friday, December 8th.

From noon on the 2nd floor at City Hall, you can join them for student presentations by Bermuda Institute, Bermuda High School, Cedarbridge Academy, Centre for Creative Learning School, Clearwater Middle School, Dalton E. Tucker Primary School, Elliot Primary School, Northlands Primary School, Port Royal Primary School, Prospect Primary School, Sandys Secondary Middle School, Somerset Primary School, St. George’s Preparatory School, T. Just in time for Christmas, there will be a Local Author Book Sale and Writer’s Workshop on Saturday, December 9th.

From 10am until 3pm at the First Church of God on North Shore, there will be new releases by Linda Burrows, Pastor Deborah Evans, Pastor Blanch Burchall, Dr. Sharon Apopa, and Dr. Lois Burgess.  Other authors will include Elder Ruth Ann Lambe, Maxine DeSilva, Armetia Apopa, and Gloria Smith Francis. Other books will on sale from the church bookstore, including $5 books for children.

From noon until 2pm, there will be a workshop on how to get started writing your book, writer coaching, designing your cover, and using your life story as inspiration to write.

The cost for the workshop is $20 and there will be complimentary tea and coffee.

BUEI Films presents Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland on Saturday, December 9th.

Follow Alice down the rabbit hole in this live in HD recording of Wheeldon’s exuberant ballet, inspired by Lewis Caroll’s much-loved book. There will be a guest appearance by Sarah Lamb, Principal of The Royal Ballet.  Part proceeds will benefit Bermuda’s own Ravi Cannonier-Watson currently attending the Royal Ballet School.

The film screenings are at 3pm and 7pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. The St. David’s Island Historical Society invite you to celebrate an 18th Century Family Christmas with them on Sunday, December 10th.

From 4pm until 7pm, you can enjoy the true spirit of Christmas and St. David’s hospitality at this annual olde world-style family Christmas Party.  Carter House will be decorated in 18th century style with candle light, warm fires and a food tasting.

Father Christmas will be there with his bag of gifts for the kids, and wreaths made from natural material, 1964 Bermuda Silver Crown mounted in 400 year old Bermuda cedar, will be available for sale.

Back by popular demand, BUEI Screens invites you to a third screening of Viceroy’s House on Sunday, December 10th.

New nations are rarely born in peace… India, 1947: Lord Mountbatten (Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville) is dispatched, along with his wife Edwina (Gillian Anderson), to New Delhi to oversee the country’s transition from British rule to independence. Taking his place in the resplendent mansion known as the Viceroy’s House, Mountbatten arrives hopeful for a peaceful transference of power. But ending centuries of colonial rule in a country divided by deep religious and cultural differences proves no easy undertaking, setting off a seismic struggle that threatens to tear India apart.  This PG-13 rated drama has a running time of 106 minutes.

The December edition of the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs’ Historical Heartbeats Lecture Series will be a Christmas Concert in the Park on Tuesday, December 12th.

From 1pm on the porch of the Bermuda Historical Society, you can join them for a festive lunch-hour with holiday treats while enjoying the sounds of Bermudian student musicians playing a combo of Christmas tunes, jazz, pop and swing with the Warwick Academy Jazz Band (under the direction of Mr. Conrad Roach) and Brothers in Music.

The December edition of the monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Raid Dingue (R.A.I.D. Special Unit) on Tuesday, December 12th.

Screening in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium at 8pm, this French action/comedy with English subtitles is from the director Dany Boon, starring actors with Dany Boon, Alice Pol and Michel Blanc.

A bumbling cop becomes the first woman admitted to an elite police squad and is partnered with a misogynist agent. Together they must take down
the formidable Gang of Leopards….

Promising Bermuda’s biggest, best and most exciting Christmas party, the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club presents their Snowball Party on Saturday, December 16th.

From 7pm until 1am, there will be a spectacular holiday buffet and raffles, with Working Title and a local DJ there to keep you rocking all night long. They are sure that they don’t need to say much more about this annual event except come on down and enjoy everything that’s going.

To honour his achievements and winning the May 24th Bermuda Day Race this year, The Sandys Parish Council’s Community Outreach Committee have planned the Jay Donawa 5K Road Race on Sunday, December 17th.

The 5K Walk will start at 8am, while the 5K Run and the 2.6K Kids Event will start at 8.30am.  The route for adults will be from Somerset Bridge (Blue Bird Lane) West along tracks to Somerset Police Station, right on Middle Road all the way to Boaz Island Field.  The route for children will be from West End  Primary School along tracks to Somerset Police Station, right on Middle Road all the way to Boaz Island Field.

The prize categories will be Clubs (Willow Cuts, Island Rangers, Somerset Cricket Club, Somerset Bridge –  1st, 2nd and 3rd along with bragging rights), Prisons, Fire, Police, Teachers and Marine and Ports (1st, 2nd and 3rd  along with bragging rights), Female Walkers (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Male Walkers (1st, 2nd and 3rd), and Age Groups (16 to 19, 20 to 39, 40 to 49, 50+, for runners only).

Number and t-shirt pickup will be from 10am until noon at St. James Church.    Late registration will also be available at the same time.  All participants are eligible for draw prizes on the day of the event.  There will be no late entries on the day of the race.

The registration cost is $20 for runners and walkers and the price will increase at 6pm on December 15th.  For the kids event, the registration cost is $5 and the price will increase at noon on December 16th.  Registration is available online at www.RaceDayWorld.com.  All entry fees will be used towards Sandys Parish Council’s 2018 Educational Bursaries recipients.
