A new exhibition is opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts on the top floor of City Hall, on Friday, March 6th.

Together with the Department of Education, the gallery is proud to present the 55th Annual Middle and Senior School Art Show, whose theme this year is Freedom and Social Change. 

The opening reception is on Friday from 5:30pm until 7pm. The show will remain on display until March 31st. 

Opening hours at BSoA are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

February 26th, 2020 Bermuda Calendar Update

All are invited to the next lecture in the Eco Lunch & Learn Series II, presented by BEST and the Bermuda College Science Department, addressing Climate Change: How Bermuda Can Respond on Thursday, February 27th.

This is the second year that BEST and the college have collaborated to present talks on local topical events. In this lecture Dr Anne Glasspool will consider the effects of climate change on Bermuda and the strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on economic, social and physical well-being. Dr. Anne Glasspool is a Bermudian Chartered Environmentalist with an M.Sc. in Fisheries Management, a Ph.D. in Marine Biology with over 30 years of work experience in the environmental sciences. She is Vice President of Bermuda Environmental Consulting, Ltd., specialising in environmental impact assessment, environmental management planning, regulatory compliance, ecological assessments and remediation projects for a diverse suite of clients. 

The lecture starts at 1pm in Hallet Hall, followed by a lively discussion and Q&A. There will be two more lectures in this series on the last Thursdays of March & April. Series III will begin in September 2020. 

Admission is free and no registration is required. Bring your own lunch.

BUEI Screens presents: Parasite on Wednesday, February 19th. 

2019 / Dark Comedy / R / 107mins. 2020 Oscar Winner – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay.

Bong Joon Ho brings his work home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.

Bermuda African Dance Company’s (BADCo.) Spring 2020 Term of African Dance, Drumming & Workout Classes has just begun and continues today, February 5th. 

The dance company is located at The Berkeley Cultural Centre (Old Berkeley School) and offers classes for adults and children at all levels. 

Dance/Drumming is from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Thursdays for Advanced; noon-1pm on Saturdays for Children; and 1:30pm-3pm on Saturdays for All Levels. Afro Beat Workout for Beginners is on Wednesdays from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, Drumming for All Levels is on Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Kemetic Yoga for All Levels is on Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. 

The cost per course is $120 for the full term (10 weeks).
