February 26th, 2020 Bermuda Calendar Update
Good Morning Bermuda,
We’ve nearly reached the end of February, can you believe it!? Here’s your weekly update with all of the latest events that have been added to the Bermuda Calendar since last week. As always, make sure you scroll all the way down to the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of this post to see ALL upcoming events, including those that have been previously covered in previous posts.
Since it’s not practical to add them to the post each week, all of the Regular/ Weekly Events are listed on a separate page which you can access from the drop-down options under the Other Sections tab on the homepage.
If you are planning any upcoming events you can submit your event here – a basic listing is free! Just be sure to include all of the relevant details in your description.

Most people lead lives very different from our own. Humanity and its civilizations have deep associations with the ocean and no other species on the planet interacts with them in quite the same way. Bermudian Alex Brooks and his partner Sarah have spent over 3 ½ years circumnavigating the globe on their 36-foot sailboat – s/v Bob. Join them as they introduce you to remote island-cultures and explore the unique relationship humans have with the ocean. In the face of huge challenges associated with food, resources and a changing climate, perhaps there’s something to be learned from the resilience and diversity of traditional maritime life.
The talk begins at 7:30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. Harbourfront opens for dinner at 5pm and ticket holders are entitled to 10% off dinner (food only) before or after the film. Bong Joon Ho brings his work home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.

The days of piracy return to Bermuda, but this time is all in the name of an excellent community cause, at the Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s Pirates of Bermuda event on Saturday, March 14th.
This fun-filled afternoon for the whole family will take place at #1 Dock on Front Street from 2pm until 4pm. As in the 18th century, privateers aboard STV Spirit of Bermuda have been authorised by letters of marque to kidnap more than 50 community members for their riches. Donations can be put towards freeing a hostage OR gleefully witnessing the Walking of the Plank straight into the chilly waters of Hamilton Harbour. The public is invited to join them for the afternoon. There will be pirates and pirating, music, food and fun for the whole family to enjoy as you witness the hostages meet their fate.
Contributions towards sinking or saving your favourite hostage be made right up until the day of the event online at www.pTix.bm/pirates or by calling Bermuda Sloop Foundation at 737-5667. All funds raised from this event help ensure the continued operation of Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s Expeditionary Learning Programmes on board Sail Training Vessel Spirit of Bermuda, and student voyage bursaries. Annually, over 400 M3 students participate in Spirit of Bermuda’s experiential and educational sail training programme. Twenty-two week-long voyages will take place this school year for 18-20 students per week. It is a great programme that needs your support!
The event is from 6pm until 10pm in the Bermuda College Gymnasium and all are invited to come and play or watch. There will be music, food for sale, raffles and trophies to be won.
This event is free and there is no need to pre-register, so you can simply show up on the day.
