Happy Friday Kids!
So happy to see that so many of you are already interested in the Nothing to Chew in Bermuda dinner event on May 11th after my little heads-up on Wednesday’s post. Tickets are now on sale now at www.pTix.bm and full details are below – don’t delay in getting your tickets as these will go fast. Now for some other Bermuda events:
The Washington Mall, with the Bermuda Society of Interior Designers (BSID) and other selected local businesses, is having a Home Day event on Saturday, April 27th. Between 10am and 5pm, you can enjoy free seminars and demonstrations covering a variety of creative ideas for your home, with renovation styles that suit your needs, style, and budget. Expert speakers for the day include David Pantry from Furniture Flair, Jeff Sousa of Sousa’s Landscape Management Co. Ltd., Simon Leighton from Concrete Works, Tiffany Alexander & Melinda DeCosta, Huw & Dale Lewis from Euro Style & Euro Tile, Laura Farge-Lowe & Gillian Farge from Island Trading Ltd., Karen Jones from Discovery Wines, David Moniz from The Living Centre, Traci Burgess from Furniture Flair, Travis Burland from Bermuda Engineering, and leading Interior Designers from BSID will be available to chat about your renovation and design needs. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact julie.mayor@washprop.com.
Singer-songwriter, poet and entertainer Joy T. Barnum will be featured in the next Chewstick Foundation Griot Session on Saturday, April 27th at the Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge & Café. Entitled Chimera, this session will share a different side of her journey and will only be available in its entirety at the Chewstick Lounge as the poetry portion WILL NOT be streamed live at www.chewstick.org as usual. Doors open at 6.30pm with show time at 7.30 sharp. Entry is $30, which includes Joy’s CD and tickets are available at the door or online at www.pTix.bm. For more information call 292-2439 (CHEW) or email info@chewstick.org.
Bermuda International Invitational Race Week (BIIRW), a major fixture on the international yachting calendar, will be in Bermuda from Saturday, April 27th until Friday, May 3rd and, as part of the celebrations, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club present Rock de Dock on Tuesday, April 30th from 6pm. There will be a cash/card bar and DJ’d music with the option of a buffet dinner from 6.30pm until 9pm (buffet costs $35 and includes a Bacardi drink special). Entry is free and the Yacht Club is open to the public all week. For more details, visit www.biirw.bm.
The Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) will be celebrating their 60th anniversary in style with the Art & Soul Live Music Revue on Saturday, May 4th. This event is the latest in a series of live music shows produced by Howard Rego for the benefit of BSoA and will feature both overseas and resident musicians performing together in a live musical tribute, guaranteed to get everyone dancing. Doors open at 8pm, the show will start at 9pm, running until midnight. Tickets are $50 for BSoA members, $60 for non-members and available from www.BDAtix.bm. For more details, contact 292-3824 or bsoa@ibl.bm.
I gave you a little heads-up in Wednesday’s post but now full details are available for the next Nothing to Chew in Bermuda dinner event on Saturday, May 11th at 7.30pm! Food and wine pairings can be a lot of fun but this is a little twist on that tried-and-tested concept as I’m hosting an awesome Tapas Feast and Cocktail Pairing at Margarita’s Grill. The mouthwatering menu for the night will include a Lemongrass Fish Lollipop with Thai-style Sweet Chilli Sauce paired with a Classic Margarita, Saffron Risotto topped with Bottarga Shavings paired with a White Mango Sangria, Lime-marinated Bermuda Wahoo Taco with pickled cabbage, sour cream and guacamole paired with an Orange Patron “Ananas”, Bermuda Tuna Norimaki inside out with Shredded Crab Meat paired with a Watermelon Mojito, Serrano BBQ Pulled Pork on cone Siracha Chilli Pepper paired with a Balsamic Bufala Negra, oven-baked Beetroot Gnocchi with Walnut and Gorgonzola Sauce paired with a Sour Apple Martini and, of course, dessert which is a Dark, Milk and White Chocolate Mousse with chocolate twist paired with a Double Espresso Martini. Each cocktail is around 1oz, with the exception of the sangria, so it’s enough to get a good taste of it without having to worry about being a drunken mess before dinner is over. You’ll receive explanations of why the combinations were paired as well as a tasting sheet to make notes and scores. There is no need to rush away after dinner as a DJ will be playing your favourite Top 40 hits, so why not stay and have another few glasses of your new favourite cocktail? The price of all of this is a bargainous $80, which will include all food, cocktails, and grats. As before, a portion of the proceeds of this event will be going to benefit New Beginnings Education Trust – a great new charity which gives young Bermudians access to education and professional development. Tickets are available online at www.pTix.bm and will be on sale until Thursday, May 9th, or until the event sells out, whichever happens first. For special dietary requirements or any other questions, please contact me at info@BermudaEvents.com. Here is the link to the event on Facebook.
Angelo’s Bistro in the Walker Arcade have started running a special Early Bird menu from 6pm until 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday. The cost is $35 per person for three courses and includes favourites such as calamari, gnocchi, crepes, meatballs and pork loin. For reservations, call 232-1000.
