There’s no escaping it – after Turkey Dinner Practice Day (a.k.a. American Thanksgiving) tomorrow, we are well into the silly season.  Here is the latest on upcoming Bermuda festive events:

 

1129 Fairmont Southampton Thanksgiving

The Fairmont Southampton invite you to celebrate Thanksgiving with them from Thursday, November 27th until Sunday, November 30th.

Firstly, there will be a Thanksgiving Football Game Screening in Jasmine Lounge on Thursday, November 27th between 11am and 1am. There is no cover charge.

Windows on the Sound are offering a Thanksgiving Buffet Dinner on Thursday, November 27th from 5.30pm until 10pm. The cost is $59 per person, plus 17% gratuities.

The Waterlot Inn are offering a Classic Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 27th from 6pm until 10pm. $89 per person + 17% gratuities

The Newport, a Gastropub and Jasmine Lounge will each have Thanksgiving Dining Specials from Thursday, November 27th until Sunday, November 30th.

Finally, there will be a Thanksgiving Sunday Brunch at Windows on the Sound on Sunday, November 30th from 10.30am until 2pm. The cost is $49 per person, plus 17% gratuities.

1121 Susan Parish Adam and Joshua Adam

Susan Parish Adam and Joshua Adam are the current Masterworks Artists in Residence. They reside in Castine, Maine where they run the popular Adam Gallery. Both artists will be exhibiting the oil paintings they have created while in Bermuda as part of the residency programme.

The exhibit will run until December 2nd.

1128 20th Annual Tree of Lights

The Lighting the Tree Ceremony for the 20th Annual Tree of Lights, a memorial tree which stands in front of City Hall, is on Friday, November 28th.

From 5.30pm, you can enjoy festive performances by the Menuhin Foundation, Sia Spence, Bermuda High School for Girls Choir, Saltus School Choir, Bermuda Regiment Band, the Bermuda Island Pipe Band and a special appearance by Santa Claus!

Please note that this event is weather dependent.

 

 

1128 Saltus Carols for All

Some merry melodies can be heard in St. John’s Church on Friday, November 28th as Saltus Grammar School presents their annual Carols For All concert.

This will start at 7.30pm and promises a wonderful start to the holiday season.

Admission is free.

1129 Secondhand Saturday

Who needs Black Friday when you can get even better bargains while supporting good causes in Bermuda at Secondhand Saturday?

Secondhand Saturday is celebrated on Saturday, November 29th, the Saturday after the US Thanksgiving Holiday. Its main purpose is to encourage locals, during the busiest shopping time of the year, to shop and support our charity thrift shops.

Participating stores include Upstairs Closet (8.30am until 3pm), The Barn (9am until 2pm), Second Hand Rose (10am until 4pm), Dress for Success (10am until 3pm), and the Salvation Army Thrift Shop (10am until 3pm).

Each shop will have their own in shop promotions and specials so don’t miss out.

1129 Pre Christmas Fair2

The Rose Bell Women’s Missionary Society of St.Paul AME Church invite you to their Pre-Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 29th.

From 10am until 4pm, you can enjoy band music, entertainment, baked goods, plants, hand made crafts, clothing, jewellery, soup and refreshments.

 

 

 

 

1130 Somerset Eagles Codfish Breakfast

Come out and support Somerset Eagles Youth Soccer Team at their fundraising Codfish Breakfast with all the trimmings on Sunday, November 30th.

This will take place at Dalton E Tucker School, across from the Fire Station, from 9am to 11.30am.

The price is $15.

1130 Marketplace Christmas Parade

It’s finally that time of year when Santa Claus comes to town!

The usual array of floats, performers and free candy will all be on offer at the annual Marketplace Santa Parade in the City of Hamilton on Sunday, November 30th.

The parade will start from Par-la-Ville car park, running down Par-la-Ville Street, along Front Street, up Court Street, and back along Church Street.

Make sure you don’t park along the parade route as the roads will close at 3pm while the parade will start at 5pm.

1202 Bermuda Genealogy Series

Interested in digging deeper into your family history? The Bermuda National Library presents the next of the Bermuda Genealogy Series on Tuesday, December 2nd.

From 6.30pm until 8pm, delMonte Davis and Dane Simmons will share information on conducting genealogical research and will present information on the Bermudian Connections Database (with over 77,000 names currently listed).

They are interested in seeing multi-generational photographs and encourage any who wish to share their family history to bring copies of their photographs.

1205 Late Night Shopping Kids Camp

An opportunity for you to take advantage of some kid-free late night Christmas shopping as Echo Entertainment are providing a child-care service for children aged 4 to 12.

Their Late Night Shopping Kids Camp will run during from 6pm until 10pm, on Fridays, December 5th, 12th and 19th at the BAA Gymnasium, with Christmas arts and crafts, movies and other fun activities to keep your kids entertained.

The cost is $15 per child, or $25 for families with more than one child, and includes dinner, drink and a snack.

Teen readers are invited to attend a Live Skype Interview with Joelle Charbonneau, New York Times best-selling author of the Testing Trilogy on Saturday, December 6th.

This event is hosted by KICS Reviews by Blu, a book club for teens, and from 2pm until 4pm at BUEI, you will have the opportunity to join the discussion.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invite you to come celebrate the movies, the music, puppets, drawings toys and set designs as the animagic version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer turns 50.

The opening reception of the exhibition will be in the Rick Faries Gallery from 5.30pm until 7pm on Saturday, December 6th.

The exhibit will run until January 13th.

1213 BNG Youth Film Festival

The BNG is proud to announce the partnership between the BNG Youth Film Festival and Canada’s REEL Youth Film Festival.

Hosted by the BNG Youth Arts Council, the BNG Youth Film Festival on Saturday, December 13th will showcase short films created by young Bermudians alongside international youth films from REEL.

Join them from noon until 2pm and vote for your favourite local youth film. The winning film will go on to the International REEL Film Festival Tour representing Bermuda.

The Reel Youth Film Festival pulls together an insightful, compelling and hilarious collection of short films from across the globe, from Bermuda, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, England, Ireland, Iran, Slovenia, and the U.S.A. This event is organised and hosted by the BNG Youth Arts Council, sponsored by a YCA Supporter and in partnership with REEL Film Festival.

The cost is free for members, $5 for non-student members and $10 for non-adult members. Seating is limited so you are encouraged to purchase your tickets in advance.

1214 Jingle Bell Walk and Run

Celebrate the season by running or walking to support the Bermuda Red Cross at MAAC’s annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk on Sunday, December 14th.

This is a 5k route, starting and finishing at Bermuda Air Conditioning HQ at Mills Creek. Walkers will start at 8.45am, followed by runners at 9am.

Prizes will be awarded to overall runners and also special prizes for the best Christmas Dress. A Fitbit Activity Tracker will be awarded to the person who raises the most funds and all finishers are eligible for draw prizes.

Number pick up will be at the Bermuda Red Cross on Saturday, December 13th between 2pm and 4pm.

The race fee is $30, plus $3 signup fee, with registration available at www.RaceDayWorld.com. Goodie bags and tee shirts will go to the first 200 registered participants.

1214 Christmas Carols with the Dolphins

Dolphin Quest Bermuda are promising a whale of a time (so to speak) at their special holiday event, Christmas Carols with the Dolphins, on Sunday, December 14th.

This candlelit celebration will be from 6pm to 6.45pm at the National Museum of Bermuda in the Royal Naval Dockyard, with your favourite Christmas carols sung alongside the dolphins.

Entry is free and no reservations are required. The rain date is December 21st.

1219 Nutcracker Holiday Spectacular

Under the direction of Lizz Pimentel, the In Motion School of Dance presents The Nutcracker Holiday Spectacular on Friday, December 19th and Saturday, December 20th at the Earl Cameron Theatre, City Hall.

This tribute to the holidays will feature Act II of the Nutcracker and other seasonal classics with showtime is at 7pm each night and a 2pm matinee on the Saturday. Tickets for these three shows generally sell out quickly.
